Major fan ~ as you can tell by my playlist. How can you not love this group that dominated the 70s. And to any ABBA fan, if you haven't seen Mama Mia ~ you should make it a point to do so! What an awesome dedication to the group.
Chris2222 11/06/2007
Ive been a beatles fan all my life and i have to say that ABBA are most definetly up there with them as the greatest contributors to peoples happiness and joy in the twentieth century. Both groups have terrific songs that will make you tingle if you really sit down and just listen to their music.
Victor83 07/17/2007
"Bubble gum" as all get out, not particularly my kind of music....and I still say ABBA was fantastic.
SoulSaxy 03/20/2007
BTW - ABBA should be capitalized it deserves respect! ABBA sold 360 Million World Wide. Their upbeat enjoyable music..in fact.. I was not disappointed in any songs they sang. Only group I know of that every song was high quality. Its just feel good music thats all!!! How can you beat that!!!! Long live ABBA!!!!!! Simply The Best Group Ever!!! Hands Down!!!
GenghisTheHun 01/20/2007
Fernando gives them a 5 and I do have that song on my IPod. This was a megagroup in the 1970's out of Sweden. It had two men and two beautiful women. I know it is fashionable to disparage this group today, but thirty years ago, it was on top!
FranksWildYear s 01/17/2007
A handful of slick catchy pop tunes and a squeeky clean image have kept the Swedish juggernaught that is ABBA alive in the hearts of millions. I'm highly inclined to gripe about the world being unfair and that far better singers and songwriters go wanting for an audience today while ABBA still sells albums by the boatload. I find myself holding back, fondly remembering being a starry-eyed teen watching those two beautiful women in satin and spandex.
OneWeirdDude 11/26/2006
It's too old-fashioned for me. Yeah, I know, this coming from someone who happens to like Little House on the Prarie and Brady Bunch, but still. But my dad would like it. That's something.
Djahuti 08/21/2006
In my version of Hell, they play Abba night and day.
irenushky 08/03/2006
They will always be the best in the world! If anybody can find better songs than The name of the game (gorgeous one!!!), Eagle, Hole in your soul, Summer night city or (over them all) Thank you for the music, I beg you to tell me! And I will always prefer Agnetha though people tries to annoy me with this! I've loved them for 8 years and I will continue loving them for my whole life.
ClassicTVFan47 06/26/2006
One of my all-time favorite musical bands. Hailing from Sweden (also home to Ace of Base and A*Teens, two other greats) Their unique musical style has produced many great songs from "Lay All Your Love on Me," "S.O.S.," "Ring, Ring," and "Mamma Mia." From the 70s, these stylized pop/dance songs certaintly hold up today.
frogger20190 03/29/2006
C'mon...if Alice Cooper, Paul Stanley of Kiss and Bono can admit to being ABBA fans, so can you. This stuff is ear candy and wonderfully constructed ear candy. Fernando and The Winner Takes it All are beautiful pop tunes.
heartlessbitch 11/26/2005
I grew up listening to Abba, and what fond memories this album brings back...of young, carefree days filled with the clean, crisp and sparkling music of this awesome group coming out of the radio. They are a true legend!
imalanman 11/21/2005
Any music/band that's still around after 30 years (20 of those after they broke-up) speaks for itself. Timeless. Classic. Unforgettable. They are legends now and deservedly so.
clarermo 09/28/2005
All I can say is that Abba music has outlived their critics in the seventies and will outlive the present ones. You can call it muzak, crap or whatever, but the pure reality is that Abba music is pure magic. Agnetha, will you marry me?
rjy 09/28/2005
They made some good songs back in the day!
Limpin' Trenchfoot 08/15/2005
Being a well balanced and reasonable geezer I rate ABBA as a 5 star even though they're not my bag and I don't have any of their stuff. Still I recognise a well crafted and a well performed tune when I hear one and ABBA consistently put out sophisticated yet catchy songs year after year which still sell 30+ years down the line. There's no point slagging them off just because they're not to your taste. They were a class act and respect is due.
crashzoom 08/03/2005
When it comes to pure pop perfection, ABBA is without peer. Sublime timeless melodies from Benny and Bjorn, Agnetha and Frida's heavenly vocals, Benny and Bjorn's faultless production and inciteful lyrics that range from joyous to tremendously moving. It's no wonder that the musical Mamma Mia! has become such a sensation as it taps into the deep well of melancholy and euphoria that is inherent in the ABBA catalogue. Only the tone deaf and the obstinate appear to refute this.
sabasimba 06/20/2005
Something from the 1970's that is best left buried there...
X Factor Z 04/06/2005
I have enjoyed listening to ABBA for years now. Cleverly written tunes which can be covered by groups like the A-Teens well. Outstanding singing by the girls, and great musicianship by the guys. If it sounds GOOD, don't complain about. People have been listening to rap too long.
jesterman21 01/31/2005
Basically the fans show how great this group really is. If you don't like them its your choice but groups like abba, beegees and the beatles don't come around very often. Abba is my fav group but i can understand why people wouldn't like them. (doesn't change how i feel about them)
Guava Monkey 01/20/2005
I originall gave 2 stars, mainly because they've generated a major cash-in industry - thousands of cloned tribute bands - and because millions of sad slappers and minging hags screech along to 'Dancing queen' on karaoke nights. Then again that's not their fault. Not my bag exactly but the tunes are memorable and well crafted.
dorsett33 12/13/2004
the best group sex music
brygidab 07/11/2004
There are a lot of good bands and singers, but only few to remember for more than a year or two. ABBA is one of these few, we remember their music till now, after so many years they stopped singing together. New generations are discovering their music and like it a lot. So why should we pretend, it is a great group that made a lot to the music of the world.
sfalconer 07/02/2004
One of the most boring sounds to come out of the 70's. Lets face it, they were over produced and over rated. There rise to fame is due to the Eurovision Song contest which they used to hold each year. Abba sang Water Loo and that is how it all started. So if you hate ABBA blame the Euro Vision song contest. Ok some moron said Abba was better than the Beatles, please. Glam pop crap and it all sounded the same over produce with the same harmonys every time boring.
easgles 07/02/2004
ABBA ARE THE NUMBER ONE BAND EVER! MUCH BETTER THAN THE BEATLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Growing up during the 1970's presented quite a challenge for most teenagers. I was no exception, having a myriad of different music genres at my disposal - i.e AOR, FM Rock, Punk Rock, New Wave, etc. This was the kind of music I listened to with the boys I hung around with. However, there was something infectious about Abba's music that appealed to me back then;when you heard one of their songs, you couldn't get the melody out of your head. Quite simply, it was the kind of music you loved listening to, but you didn't dare tell your friends that. The popularity of Abba's music back then, when I was a kid, and more so now,is both the simplicity and complexity of their lyrics, superb orchestration, and their brilliant harmonies. The two most important factors that contributed to Abba's tremendous success worldwide was Benny and Bjorn's songwriting, and Agnetha and Anni-frid's beautiful vocal harmonies. All these factors fused together to make Abba the global phenomenon that they were during the 1970's. I can still recall most of those songs from when I was a kid- i.e. Waterloo, S.O.S., Dancing Queen, Take A Chance On Me, Voulez Vous, - the list is endless, - and I still love listening to them today. The universal appeal of Abba's music to all ages, from all walks of life, is the one thing that has immortalized them. Perhaps that is the one thing that is sadly missing in today's popular music, which I find so meaningless and devoid of any decency. Say what you want about them;Abba is my all-time favorite group!
JefferyT 04/02/2004
I love them badly. I am a fan from asian country. Abba is popular in Asia, too. It is an evidence that goog songs are universal. I can't understand why some people are so radically against them. Is any thing wrong to be popular. I think most abba fans love them not because they won eurovision contest, they topped the chart or they wore eye-catchy costume. It is only because the excellent music they performed. I won't say their music is the best in the world, however their music is far better than some rubbish group, such as NKOB, spice girls, boyIImen, All for one, etc.
talula jane 03/31/2004
I remember really liking Abba as a kid, and I still get a completely non-ironic kick out of listening to them, and here's why: strong hooks and harmonies, careful arrangements, and impeccable song structure. Pop perfection that is, as someone else mentioned, happy-making.
lolabunny 01/29/2004
TIFFANY AND DEBBIE GIBSON HAD MORE TALENT THEN HER,BRITNEY AND CHRISTINA COMBINED.FROM THE 80S SHOULD HAVE STAYED THERE.
VirileVagabond 10/26/2003
People who discount ABBA, just don't get what a pop artist is all about. Moreover, as Looney Tunes animation works at both the child and adult level, their music is not only extremely infectious on the surface, mature listeners can see the complexity as one digs through the layers (eg the almost classical concert pianist work on many of there most popular songs). This subtle complexity largely accounts for the way that their catalog has stood the test of time, why the band was the biggest pop artist in the 1970's (the golden age of pop), and why the group has remained so influential (even for musical titans of other genres). The band (as others have noted) got their big break by winning the 1974 Eurovision contest with "Waterloo," and the rest would have became history, but it never really ended. Much like The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, ABBA's music has become part of the human experience as popular music and video has now become the modern mythology (ie a common frame of reference) largely replacing literature for this purpose. This is evidenced by the fact that everyone and their dead grandmother has heard and recognizes the majority of ABBA's singles, notwithstanding the fact that they were released over twenty years ago. Finally, people often mistakenly classify the group as disco when they were pure pop, and this accounts for why their music has risen like the phoenix in recent years and stayed. If ABBA were disco retro, the rebound in interest would have lasted for a much shorter time. The bottom line is that Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus were master pop songwriters, and ABBA was a more than competent vehicle with which to express and interpret their work.
BigAl'sEdge 08/29/2003
I know guys arn't sopposed to like abba but I do. I saw them in Seattle in 1980 they were Awesome, in fact I cant think of an Abba song I dont like. They surpassed Beatlmania in Australia I wish they would have in the USA
kolby1973 08/29/2003
ABBA is one of those bands that are just so unique, and their music definately has a place in my heart. I own most of their work, and a couple of compilations. I recommend their music to the whole family. Some of their songs can be really moving. Many copy cat bands have tried to steal their image over the years as well, but never come close.
hermanbordis 08/28/2003
Abba is the greatest
Moosekarloff 08/19/2003
Insipid, vapid trash that sounds like elevator music. Did this band conceptualize itself with the muzak market in mind? This garbage sucked 30 years ago, so it's amazing the drivel was revived with a Broadway musical. But seeing that most Broadway musicals are drivel as well, mere tasteless fluff aimed at the most indescriminating minds, this is a perfect match. And a most diverting evening of entertainment for the hicks, hayseeds and losers in on the bus from the Heartland. Abba ranks up there with The Captain and Tenille, The BeeGees and The Carpenters as the greatest musical acts for cultural turds and dim-witted cretins to slobber over.
mansonrulze 07/15/2003
An exellent group, they were the most innovative group around and yes they did top what the Beatles did, it is possible actually falconer or whatever your name is
slappyp 07/10/2003
I love pop, but their melodies are overrated, their music campy at best.
baglesforever2 70 07/04/2003
Abba rock more than the Beatles, you bashers just can't take it!!!!!
JimmyInAtlanta 06/21/2003
The test is what you do when you hear them - turn it up or turn it off. ABBA were bada**es. Who knew.
media_mogul 06/14/2003
What a joke.
SGRANT 06/02/2003
MUCH BETTER THAN THE AVERAGE MUSIC LISTENER WOULD THINK. REALLY CATCHY STUFF STAYS WITH YOU LIKE GLUE. IT ACHIEVES WHAT MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT--TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY.
sadako 05/28/2003
There was something about ABBA they were unashamedly POP but they had beautiful voices, inspired and damn catchy lyrics sung well, and a lovely, beautiful melodic sound which had its roots in good old folk music. "Chiquitita" is one of my favourite songs of all time.
CanadaSucks 05/13/2003
I'll marry the first woman who hates "dancing queen" Ugh.
observer 05/13/2003
A wonderful group with two brilliant songwriters. Agnetha and Frida harmonised so perfectly together that the stage show "Mamma Mia" had a lot of trouble achieving a similar sound. As for the men, their songwriting is legendary. The write instrumental, classical, pop, and even songs for broadway shows. I think Andersson and Ulvaeus will be looked on as another Lennon/McCartney in years to come.
HumanMagicMark er 05/12/2003
Oh come on, they were the Backstreet Boys of their time.
kingronnie 05/09/2003
Great party pop, not my kinda thing though.
sktmps 03/22/2003
too bad they will never tour but their music still lives in Mamma Mia for 11yrs amazing stuff replicated but not duplicated Major props!
tvadamo12 02/24/2003
Although often a little sugary, I'll dare to say what most people won't; ABBA wrote and performed some great tunes. Fine vocals and great writing is always a winning combo.
