I quit smoking (was a light smoker to begin with) 15 years ago because of nasal allergies. Got tired of feeling bad all the time...second hand smoke is even worse.

I wouldn't get involved with a chain smoker in the first place, but if I had been dating someone for a while and found out that he liked to sneak a smoke every so often, I'm obviously not going to dump him. However, I would definitely encourage him to quit.

As the description of the list states, we are rating scenarios that would make you want to dump a prospective romantic partner. This includes people who request a date from you and blind date experiences. Although this is often an unpleasant deal breaker for me, I'll confess to having been infatuated with a couple otherwise wholesome types who happened to smoke. Furthermore, I discovered a pack of cigarettes once in the car of someone I'd been dating for months who later admitted to practicing the habit infrequently and in secret. And no, I didn't suddenly dump my date. There are unhealthy behaviors far more distressing than tobacco use, in my humble opinion.

Smoking is a nasty, stupid, truly lowbrow habit that is simply useless. Having a date as a smoker is a health risk not only to his-or-herself, but to the other person on the date AND other members of the public around him or her. Forget it. If that lighter is on, the date is off.
