Bill would give president emergency control of Internet: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10320096-38.htmlI’ll make a guess that Magellan just got a slight bit more uncomfortable at this latest attempt by Democrats to gain more governmental power in DC.

Unless one has a primarily physical labor job, etc., I can't imagine getting away from computer intensive or computer-assisted employment. The economies of the developed world are increasingly service and information based, and the manufacturing sector is more capital and less labor intensive than in prior years, all resulting in an increased demand for computer skills. As other comments have noted, I can't imagine performing my work without a computer. The downside is that some co-workers will inevitably abuse their internet access by looking at porn, web-surfing too much, or spending too much time on personal web-based email. The company for which I work recently started tracking web-hits and blocked access to common email sites (e.g. Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail) as a result of this type of abuse, resulting in my having to take more personal calls at work. It's always a few who ruin it for everyone.

Ha! I never work on a computer. The opportunities to play are just too tempting.

I'm currently in the investment accounting field and I can't imagine what it was like before computers were around. I have at least a hundred Excel spreadsheets tracking stock changes and various charts and graphs are all over the place. I use the internet to check up on investments (and sports scores). I also have Access databases linking tons of information that would otherwise all have to be in paper files that would fill the entire office and then some. Combine that with severe writers cramp and you have one real pain of a job.

Not unless I got paid. I use a computer at work though

I use it daily for my job, which of course leads to mindless surfing.

As a student, I always find myself using the computer to do assignments. It definately saves a lot of time typing a five page essay rather than writing it out by hand.

I have four computers, three of which are running right now. I use these wonderful tools to do everything from design graphics, to write short stories and poetry. I even have done album covers. If it weren’t for computers, my work would still be done the old fashioned way and only done by those that had tons of money to pour into machinery that wouldn’t fit in my living room, much less my small office. So computers, are wonderful in that aspect alone, not to mention all the ways they help me teach my son (who is now graduated) and daughter. They help make so many things possible!

You've got to love the fact that you can make a living sitting at home in front of a computer. Besides the fact that you need to put in 15+ hour days it's not really work. I enjoy working at home but also maintain a part time position (just in case) other then that I'm free to do what I please and make a comfortable living right here in my living room.

Since I'm still at school, I use the computer for schoolwork, but it's really safe to say that the computer help me accomplish my schoolwork twice as fast and with better quality because it gives me the convenience of chilling out (listening to music), getting my piece together (through programs) and research (CD-roms and the Internet) all in one tool!

Like much of the world, my job skills all seemed to merge sometime in the early '90's and I evolved into an all computer-based position by the end of that decade. I now work on and with computers exclusively. I now can't imagine not using a computer.
