Levon was the only single to chart in the U.S. from the excellent full-length Madman Across The Water (1971). The lyrics are sad but powerful, relating the strained relationship between a father and son. The vocals are accompanied by music that slowly crescendos in power, one of those rare songs that remains a favorite of both the casual fan and the fanatic. For those too busy wearing their war wounds like a crown, Levon charted in the U.S. for 7 weeks in 1972, peaking at #24.
