I see nothing wrong with nerds. They are usually smart, do not get in trouble in school or pick on other students.they do not let others tell them how they should be. My daughter had a teacher tell his students Be nice to the nerds, you may be working for them some day. I liked that theory. and what the heck I raise my hand proud!

One type of nerd was those that named the library their favorite place to go after lunch. Yes, I was one of them.

Quite frankly, I think it's a very bad label to tack on somebody. They're usually picked on for no reason at all, only because they want to get their work done and be an achiever.

Today's liberals who have a nice job, nice home and beautiful spouses.

At least if I was a nerd I would have been going to a better college than I am now. Also would have had a better job, I may not have found too many dates, but hey, Sometimes books are better than looks. Books upgrade, while looks fade.

If you really want to read a good article on nerds, geeks and freaks visit this link http://www.paulgraham.com/nerds.html. I shared this with my 13 year old 7th grade son who is a caring boy, smart, a bit overweight, sings in the chorus (he has an absolutely beautiful voice!) who was being teased. It opened his eyes and made him realize that the kids (and adults!) who do label others are usually trying to make up for something they lack - like brains.

Wish I was one, it would have made school a hell of a lot easyer. And I probley would be going to a four year school. So much for that.

The future leaders of tomorrow who were mercilessly picked on for being different. They had the last laugh for being asthetically challenged and hard-working in some cases as they blossomed into swans and prepared themselves throughout school for their successful futures.

Funny that being nerds never bothered the nerds themselves. Theres a lesson there about being true to yourself in the face of popular opinion. Kudos.

You'd be surprised at how untrue the conventional nerd stereotype is. The glasses wearing, chess playing, straight-A student of our school actually has a beautiful blonde girlfriend. A guy I like to hang out with who has prominent front teeth, thick glasses and likes to (I'm not making this up) run around in the woods with a group of friends hitting eachother with rubber swords whilst dressed in medievil battle gear is VERY popular at his school. Everyone goes to him for advice and more then a couple ladies think he's quite appealing. Both of them always get drunk at parties as well. Do these people still count as nerds? How do you define a nerd? I think some more nerd civil wars are on the horizon, perhaps even more brutal then the Picard vs. Kirk debate.

Not only have I seen the nerds from my school days turn out to be really hot guys, but alot of the so-called nerds turned out to be really ambitious guys with great careers...it was a total travesty how these kids were treated during school...and I defended every single one of them...and if I had to do it over again...I would have defended them even more...it used to make me so angry to see people pick on them....

Today's nerd might be tomorrow's Einstein.

If we're talking the bright, if socially somewhat inept kids who frequent science clubs, chess clubs and the like, I have a fair bit of liking for them. They often grow up to be useful, productive and interesting citizens. If we're talking the Dungeons and Dragons playing, Star Trek memorizing, arrogant without cause, none too bright nose pickers, I had and have, no time for them.

A pretty wide category. To the legions of dimwits, anyone who had any intellectual interests whatsoever was a nerd. If this refers specifically to the technology-savvy, remember that everything you are using now, from the mouse in your hand to the monitor in front of you to the software that displays this message and the internet it rides on, was conceived, invented, refined, and brought to you by your dependable friends, the nerds.
