Sweet, a little mossy tasting and best when you eat it right off the skin and the juice runs down your chin. Tricky to catch it when it's just right in terms of ripeness and a little fussy to cut and serve but generally well worth the effort.

Great for eyes. I like it

Mangos deserve better than the low rating they have. They are versatile and delicious!
frenchiefastwa ves 12/15/2008
When ripe just right, their sweetness is unmatchable...and no matter how you slice it, you still end up with juices and chunks all over your hands and face...Yummy indeed!

Mangoes belong to the genus Mangifera, consisting of numerous species of tropical fruiting trees in the flowering plant family Anacardiaceae.

My four year old is gonzo over mango. He'd prefer it to candy.
Seraph 03/02/2006
I tried one today; it was just so-so. Not bad, but there are better fruits out there.
Kairho 10/08/2005
I love the flavor but hate the texture, so never eat them without disguise.
kattwoman 05/17/2005
i love mangoes but i hate dealing with the big seed it has.
Graymalkin 05/12/2005
They are almost in season here and I can barely wait. I like to make smoothies with them and a bit of pineapple juice or make a mango and pineapple salsa to serve with grilled fish or chicken. The are just plain good peeled and eaten like an apple.
texasyankee 04/19/2005
I have to give a mango a 5, just discovered them late in life like around 10 yrs ago I fell in love, immediately. Mango chutney is delicious on pork chops too. YUM

A perfectly ripe mango is perfection. It has such a refreshing taste.

Mango mmmm one of the best fruit out there.

Mango is one of my favorite fruit. Down here in Florida you can get a lot of really good mangoes during the early Summer when they're ripe. It tastes like a very sweet peach, but it isn't overwhelming. It has a soft quality to it that makes it a refreshing treat after working in the hot sun all day.

It has a bland taste that I find annoying.
The Waffler 11/02/2001
Mangoes are overrated. And overpriced. But are sometimes nice for a change of pace, I suppose.
Claude 09/13/2001
this is the only food I'm allergic to- especially the inside skin of the fruit which gives me sores and an itchy rash on my skin which lasts for days.
Lily P 09/10/2001
Gourmet chefs often cook with mangos- they glaze meat and things with it I think. I enjoy eating them plain. Just peel off the skin and cut off chunks. Then you have to bite the rest off from around the large pit. You'll get some stringy stuff in your teeth, but it is worth it. Mangos have a distinctive taste- I think it's kind of like a sweet carrot.
