I've always loved a good, old Columbo mystery. Thoroughly enjoyable, engrossing and intelligently done...they don't make them like these anymore. I like how his character comes through and his many idiosyncrasies. It's great how the case all comes together in the end, thanks to his deeply analytical mind (No, nothing escapes Columbo's attention). If Columbo can't solve the crime, nobody can.

I didn't watch much TV, but I watched this! I loved the way Peter Falk portrayed a detective with a super analytical mind and the ability to both charm and irritate his suspects, Get 'em Columbo!

"Columbo" is a pinaccle of human achievement. People who just see it as entertainment are seeing just part of the story. A standing ovation here.

The best of the who dun it shows

A great detective show with a very unusual (at the time) format. You find out who-done-it in the first five minutes of the show. The suspense comes from wondering if the journeyman detective will solve the mystery before the hour is up. One of the few old shows I can still enjoy today. Especially if it is one I haven't seen yet.

Columbo is the best detective ever,he is closely folowed by Holmes,Monk and Poirot, but i still say that Columbo is the best!!!!He is able to find any clue absolutely doesnt matter what it is,but most of times its some facts that has nothing to do with the case for first look second look and even third look, but Columbo sees it insantly!!!He can deduce anything from them, indeed only that what is true but we can expect anything.Nothing is impposible in Columbo show!!!!I simply love it,and that people know the killer at start makes it only better!!!Columbo is the Greatest detective ever made!!!!!And his ability to find, deduce and observe really everything(like Holmes) is absolutely masterful!!!But Columbos ability to trap criminal ingeniously and never predictably, that murederer will be cought for 100 percent(like poirot) is also masterful!!!And only Columbo has both of it so masterful.Maybe you will say im stupid, but you cannot compare detectives other way.Poirot,Holmes,Monk and Columbo are all near the same, but Columbo is the greatest after all!!!!!

It's certainly the best detective in tv shows.

He acted soooo stupid, it was almost like watching a comedy.

Some people just don't get it. The idea of character-driven formats, whether they be in film, literature, or comic strip, is to outline the focal character within a series of his, her, or it's attributes and mold an action around said character. Sherlock Holmes is Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Brown is Charlie Brown, and Columbo is Columbo! The premise involves a short, desheveled, crude speaking detective who seemingly bumbles and stumbles his way into the best laid plans of a series of self-important, preening criminal sociopaths. He's high society's worst nightmare with a single-minded purpose and dogged determination that never fails to get him his quarry. Peter Falk brilliantly portrays our hero as he runs through a roster of some of the most loathesome ham actors (Who are also brilliant in their portrayals of loathesome ham actors!) including William Shatner, Robert Culp, Richard Basehart, Robert Vaughn, and a host of television regulars. As is the case with nearly any entity in life, the series did indeed go on a bit too long, but this does not discount the fact that Columbo, at it's best, was a very fine show.

One of the great all time TV characters the slopply dressed crazy like a fox raincoated Columbo.Yes, we all knew he would foil his often highbrowed antagonists. But it was often fun to watch and of course the classic columbo line.He always saved it for when the bad guy-girl was ready to strangle him "Oh one more thing."
kattwoman 10/02/2005
this show only on occasion had an interesting episode.

A good cop show, where you know that sooner or later Columbo gets the guy/girl. Only thing though, I would like to see someone out foxxed him and get away.

I loved this show, it was a good mystery back then
irishgit 03/25/2005
Even by LAPD standards, this was a pretty lousy detective.

Decent Show I watch it more now a days than I did when I was a kid
phlip-tout 01/01/2004
In every episode you see the underdog come out on top through attention to detail, persistence and being as decent to others as possible.

An entertaining show for a few seasons, but then became yet another horse that stayed too long at the fair. As time went on, the scripts became exceedingly formulaic and predictable, which made for pretty boring television. But that's the price you pay with broadcast TV: once a program becomes a franchise, it's usually a worn-out idea, yet the suits in network management insist on continuing to shove the fading turkey down the public's throats forever, or until the increasingly crappy show can't draw advertisers anymore. It isn't about entertainment, folks, it's about a whole lot of $$$ going into the pockets of a Select Few. Peter Falk was good in this show, but unfortunately they dusted him off too often for reunion shows: that's the problem with being on a successful TV show for so long, the typecasting really closes doors for you afterward.

I like Peter Falk in his movies, but Columbo got old, I mean you know he's going to solve the crime!
SoSingular 05/05/2003
Like Rhoda Morgenstern, Columbo was not what he seemed to be. This made his charcter intriguing, fun, and multi-dimensional. The only thing is that there was no mystery involved. It might have been fun to not know the murderer at the beginning on occasion.

Some of the episodes were pretty good, but I probably wouldn't have watched had there been anything else on.
ellebee 10/10/2002
hoe could anyone not like a show that featured a an ice-cream eating basset hound called "dawg" (in Falk-ese)?
CastleBee 12/26/2001
Usually a decent enough show to sit through occasionally. However, the same stumbling, dumb-bunny cop routine - which was varied only by the different guest stars each week - starts to wear thin pretty quickly. I think the success of this show depended on Peter Falk’s ability to do this off the wall character so well that his audience didn’t really mind seeing it repeated week after week.
Shroomwoman 11/28/2001
"Columbo" is definitely on my list of all-time favorite shows. I loved Peter Falk's portrayal of Columbo, and the plots were always entertaining and on occasion very clever. It was nice to watch a crime show that didn't get too grisly, graphic, or depressing, and there was always a lot of humor. I'm glad that A&E is airing reruns on a regular basis- I hope it continues.
Texx 11/27/2001
One of the best charcters ever and no one but faulk could have played him. One more thing... I would give the show a five if there was more of a "who dunnit" element to it. But it was fun to watch the villian squirm as Columbo picked their story apart.
MedgarEvers 11/27/2001
Yea! I've been waiting for "Columbo" to be added. I used to get mixed up over whether it was a t.v. show or a movie. Peter Faulk had that detective thing down- he mastered the "something's fishy" reactions and the show's plots could be very clever.
Galomorro 11/27/2001
Love this old show. Wish there could be new shows like this (two hours is more fun than one hour) or I could at least see reruns of this one more often.
