This little turd is pathetic
scorpiorising 03/10/2007
In terms of showmanship, he's more than a match for Jagger, and he's a lot less stuck up and a far better guitarist to boot. He's also considerably more generous than Sir Mick i would imagine... it's difficult to picture the latter lending money to loyal yet impecunious fans who regularly tour with him and the Stones....yet Angus and company have done this on more than one occasion which suggests a sincere appreciation of the band's loyal followers...
jamdog 02/14/2007
solid....worked with in a zone and nailed it.....not the greatest but their success speaks for itself and he is fundamental to it....na narna na narna narna
majorreynolds 02/10/2007
Plays open chords really well. Maybe the greatest open chorder ever.
chris1970 02/09/2007
One of the best. Those who criticise his lack of variety just don't get rock n roll. Too stuck up their own arses with technique, blah bloody blah... and don't know the first thing about phrasing and sound. Angus and Malcolm perfected the rock guitar sound. "Riff-Raff" is Angus at his blistering best.
PRater 02/07/2007
THere's different kind of greats. Sure, AC/DC is garage rock and a lot of it sounds the same. But most times I hear one of his solos the hair on the back of my neck stands up and I get chills up my spine. The phrasing, tone and vibrato are what do it for me.
DEIFORROCK 02/03/2007
The best
magpiescott 01/20/2007
Maybe fast but one dimensional and predictable. Yes, a good hard rock hack..
FranksWildYear s 01/15/2007
A fine showman but also a basic hard rock hack as a guitarist.
PlanetaryGear 01/15/2007
I like AC/DC, and I'd like them even more had Bon Scott not went belly-up in a pool of his own spew. They're a very solid meat & potatoes rock act; unpretensious and refreshing. And Angus Young is a perfect cog in this group and plays the three-chord stuff well enough. But he's a notoriously sloppy soloist and has a habit of plagerizing from his own catalog: not terribly inventive. And on this list, it earns him a "2".
Chrisrianna 01/14/2007
Angus is one of the all-time greats. His playing may be simple, but no one can generate so much from so little. The guy is just amazing.
GreggOrange 01/12/2007
I like AC/DC, not every single song and not every single note but, all in all I think that they have done some of the best tunes in rock. The Angus-Malcolm duo is a well-oiled rock and roll machine and has produced some of the best riffs ever. I think Angus' playing is just fine, he has a real good vibrato and is real expressive. He sometimes reminds me of a cross between Chuck Berry, Jimmy Page and Rory Gallagher. Everyone that criticizes his playing...aw, just shut up and listen to "Given The Dog A Bone" again and have a good time. Have a beer. Relax. Smile. Get into the groove.

Lame Duck!!!!!!!!
justdrive55mik e 01/03/2007
He's ok,. Nothing special about him except doing a bunch of duck walk. If you dissagree just look at the list. He's no where near Clapton, Page or Hendrix league. End of story.
dfle3 01/03/2007
NOBODY has as many GREAT riffs as Angus. But NOBODY.

SGPLAYER 12/17/2006
Angus Young is, in my opinion, the best soloist ever. No other soloist seems to be able to reach the same degree of exactness that Angus Young can achieve, whether intentional or not. Take the time to listen to such solos like overdose, problem child, squealer, and any song he does where the solos are fast and awesome, and if you listen closely enough, you can hear the notes he somehow slips in between the most audible notes. He does this time and time again and it never ceases to amaze me. And how can he find all these ways to make notes sound different? He makes new bends and fast riffs for every solo and he is able to manipulate any note to get the right sound and feeling for what he wants to create. Also, for those people who seem to think he's only a "three-chord wonder", Mal does most of the actual riff writing (as any smart fan would know). Angus doesn't write enough riffs to justify this pointless slander.
watumbi 12/03/2006
Undisputed master of the open E chord. One dimensional wonder.
kokoandtheband 11/30/2006
Angus Young is the greatest. Not as fast as these younger guys, not as "polished", but his sound has a true hard rock soul which will be unbeaten in the next 1 mil. years...
kjfbluhvikyv 11/24/2006
Damn some people have a warped perception. The whole three chord wonder thing... what about Angus' amazing technique... his soloing capabilities... his improvisations... his phrasing is second-to-none... his vibrato... his speed... the fact he is running around the stage jumping and collapsing in fits of pure rock 'n' roll adrenaline and still never hits the wrong note! 'Metalrules' is a tool... he says some of Angus' solo's suck yet cites Hendrix, Clapton and Page as being leagues beyond Angus... well if I have heard any number of bad solo's from those guitarists too then I wouldnt know wtf a good solo is. All greats players will also have bad solo's from time to time. 'Riff Raff' is like the hidden gold nugget of all rock 'n' roll... you people think you know what good guitar playing is... get that song in your system. I don't think Angus is the greatest of all time... maybe one of the best blues guitarists, an aspect of his playing often overlooked simply because of the three chords thing, blues is mostly 3 chords... AC/DC just play it without the 3rd and the 7th. Personally I think Allan Holdsworth is the overall best guitarist there has been... or perhaps Van Halen, but none the less don't be such a douche as to cut down Angus simply because the BAND HE IS IN plays a similar style frequently... he plays guitar like a freak and has made his own sound which none of you gay hipster doofus... think your more cultured turds can take away from him.

tomdavisjr 08/20/2006
The true master of the open D Chord. EVERY song they've ever done sounds exactly the same. They started ripping themselves off by their second album. Truly a pathetic, one-dimensional, three-chord-rock band.
lomu 08/19/2006
Exceptionally one dimensional.

Maybe he hasnt got the chops of some of the virtuosos here but he's got a distinctive sound that's all his own, which is more than can be said for all these dull soundalike shredders.

ANGUS YOUNG IS THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER OF ALL TIME HE BLOWS ANYBODY RIFFS AWAY
angelontheisla nd 06/11/2006
Yes it has been said again and again...A Three chord wonder
guitarman10 06/05/2006
Angus may not be in the same class as hendrix or van halen, but he is still a legendary guitar player. AC/DC is the greatest band to see live, and he is the reason for that. No body rocks out harder than Angus.
iron 05/03/2006
angus young is the worst guitarist in history. he dosent even diserve to be on the top million list.
rs91 04/29/2006
What is it with people and effects pedals!? So what, a guitarist doesn't become great just because he knows how to press an effects pedal, and idiot can do that. I bet most guitarists who always use effects pedals are just hiding the fact that they sound crap without them, it takes true skill to be able to play that well with no effects pedals to do the work for tham, true technique. Angus should be in the top ten, and they should get rid of Jimmy Page, he's just so much better.
CanadaSucks 04/18/2006
Kudos to an earlier reviewer. . .this guy is good, but strictly a three-chord wonder. . .
leftfinger 04/18/2006
How many tunes has this guy written using the same three chords? A pretty good feat, I'll give him that and AC/DC is an easy band to like, but the competition on this list is just too strong.
lightfinger200 0 04/01/2006
the man can play some great riffs, but to rate him up with others on this list is a travesty to other players
Rockon64 03/28/2006
Great sound! No effects? Who cares? Who needs effects when your technique is so good? His left handed tremolo is unmatched. Great bluesy riffs.
flyingbuffalo 03/21/2006
Angus does not belong on this list. Period.

I'm astonished that Angus is back in 34th place. He has to be in atleast the top 10. He has amazing guitar skills and AC/DC is a very good band.

metalrules 02/02/2006
First of all people, Angus is NOT one of the greatest guitarists ever. He's not even close to as great as Randy Rhoads, Kirk Hammett, Tony Iommi, Eddie Van Halen, Marty Friedman, Joe Satriani, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Hendrix, Adrian Smith, or even Dave Mustaine. Also he's not even half as talented or as skilled as Alexi Laiho, Friedman, Satriani, Hammett, and many, many more. Why? Here's why. His solos are amazing some of you say. He has SOME great solos, but most of them are just average and he has some crappy solos to. He has NO MELODY! He has NO VERSATILITY! He's sloppy sometimes. He's repeatative. He never uses effects pedals. I've never even heard him us a wah-wah pedal before. Don't get me wrong. Angus is a fine guitarist, but one of the greatest ever? Hell no.
AngusYoung is awsome 01/08/2006
If you ask me AC/DC is absolutaly the best Rock'n'Roll band ever the lyrics they give the beets you can't get better and Angus Young is the heart of AC/DC everyone knows AC/DC for Angus Young he is so talented he is so entertaining i have Family Jewls Live at Donington and Bon Fire and Angus is awsome in all of those and cds he is absolutely the greatest ever and all of you who think other wise i don't care cause i know he is, and i don't think your dog or you could play the guitar better then him so don't lie.
Yugomania 01/07/2006
There are a lot of guitarist out there that are better then Anugs, but most of them will ever be as cool as him.
Bif 12/15/2005
You won't find many (any?) Rock 'n' Roll musicians who don't dig Angus. His drive, his tone (no effects, remember), his inventiveness and imagination in wringing the last drop outa the pentatonic scale is unsurpassed. The chappie who says he played better than Angus when he was 12 or 13 yrs old is simply lying. No other explanation. It's highly doubtful he even plays at all. Anyway, Mr. Young has given me and a heck of a lot of players a ton of pleasure. Who cares what non-musicians think? How can they know? Hats off to AC/DC!
