Good views for everyone. Sure the seats are uncomfortable, but you're not supposed to be sitting when watching a game. The bathrooms could use a little work and it's not as plastic as a lot of places, but in my mind neither of those are real negatives. Cathedralesque when empty, loud and energetic during games, I wouldn't get rid of it for anything.

Located on Naismith drive, Phog Allen (father of basketball coaching) Fieldhouse is the house that Wilt built. For nearly 50 years, this 16,300 seat barn has been intimidating for foes, inspiring for one of the winningest programs in college basketball history. On gameday, there is no better place to watch college basketball.

After $2 million dollar renovations, it will be THE best in college bball. As for now, an arena with a rich history and tradition that allowed for the longest home winning streak (62 from '93-'98) in modern college basketball.

Allen Fieldhouse is approaching its 50th year in use for KU (Built in 1955, not the late 60s) and the Jayhawks have won 83% of their games there. If you have been in the building when it is empty, then I can understand why you would say it is not nice. It's old, and kinda gross. However, when it is full--as it always is--there is NO place better to watch a game. A building is only part of the equation--the fans, who are as much the bricks and mortar of the building as the Kansas Limestone on the exterior of the building, make this place incredible.

Truly an outdated arena, though I usually see it on national television. Thanks to Google, I can see that dilapildated arenas do not always show that the team is bad; but I do say it's time for a new arena (built in the late 1960's in case you don't know).

Did they film the movie HOOSIERS there? Geez, this place is aweful, I've played pick-up games on farms in Iowa that have nicer accomadations!

It would be great, but it can't be that intimidating if Richmond can win there.

just a horrible arena for sports.

I've been there one time. However, it was after the Oklahoma State tragedy, so it was not as crazy as it normally would have been. I was dissappointed in the facility itself, thought they could have kept it up better. Overall, I'm sure that it is a wonderful homecourt advantage, great place.

a barn with uncomfortable seats. way way overhyped

Beautiful, tradition, sitting on Naismith Drive.... Best fans. NO Questions. You don't need a brand new building to show how much history it has

All that say it is not that great are out of there mind or jealous! I am a loyal Jayhawk fan and have been watching games there for a long time. They have they best student sections, which makes it the best place to watch a game! Just like the banner says on one of the sides, Pay heed all who enter, beware of the Phog!. They also have the best chant in all of sports, the Rock Chalk Chant, which was actually named the best chant by Teddy Roosevelt. The court is also named after James Naismith, the inventor of the game! GO HAWKS!

The arena is designed poorly and uncomfortable, but great tradition and fan support
gators4 07/11/2003
great fan support and atmosphere but the actual facility is outdated and average not among nation's elite or for that matter shouldn't even be considered along with Rupp Arena, Dean Dome, Cameron Indoor, O'connel Center.
Tarheel3 07/11/2003
need to win a national championship
BrenMar4584 05/26/2003
IT"S AWESOME!!! No place like it.
BassHawg 02/27/2003
a very average arena......good atmosphere but the building itself is not that impressive.
Hogules 02/23/2003
It's old, very very old, that says it all. If we were ranking tradition, then Kansas SHOULD take their place among the elite, BUT we're ranking facilities, NOT tradition! Allen Fieldhouse is NOT one of the top facilities in the Nation.....It's NOT even one of the top three in their own conference.

Allen Fieldhouse is the best arena that a college basketball fan can ask for. A true basketball arena that was designed purely for the game, Allen fieldhouse and the fervor of the KU fans and students guarantee to cause goosebumps in any KU fan, and true intimidation for any visitors. Having watched basketball at arenas such as the University of Illinois Assembly Hall, Chicago Stadium (the old home of the Bulls), and the United Center (new home of the bulls) I can honestly say that Allen Fieldhouse is the most memorable arena I've been in. Rock Chalk Jayhawk, GO KU!

A great old arena that doesn't need fancy brass railings or wood paneling to fake a retro character. This is the real deal. The fans there are second to none, and the noise level there rivals any arena in the country without being choreographed before the game. With the Rock Chalk Chant echoing through the rafters, and the ghost of Dr. Allen willing the Jayhawks to victory, I always get a chill in my spine. Beware of the Phog! Rock Chalk!

Only someone who had never actually been to Allen Fieldhouse could ever say it isn't one of the best college basketball arenas in America. With a family tree and tradition that start with the inventor of the game, there is NO place with more history to draw from. Even an early season game against a I-AA opponent is exciting here, and when the top opponents and rivals show up... Other places may have more banners. Other places may be bigger. Other places may have great atmospheres. Other places may have some history or tradition. No place else has all of what Allen Fieldhouse has. Simply, one of the best. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
