hey U2 got in and these guys are way cooler. i suppose if they were still a unified force there'd be more room to argue. a shame. however Knopfler is making some great music on his own.

I assess this category by what I call the Smokey Joe's Jukebox Test. The jukebox is located in West Philadelphia at a college bar on the edge of the U. of Penn campus. If the group had a song or two that made it to the jukebox, then that group is worthy of the Hall of Fame (see The Cars). Dire Straits got Sultans of Swing, Lady Writer, Money for Nothing, and Walk of Life onto the jukebox.
