My best friend's Coonhound has been eating this for two years and he is the picture of health. He had eaten a few lower quality foods before and had a dry coat and scabby skin. Within the first bag of Chicken Soup his coat started improving. It's soft and extremely shiny! I'm most likely going to switch my Shih Tzu to Chicken Soup canned, so I'll have to make a separate report after I see the results.

We have recently switched our dog to CS, and now he has loose stools. I am switching back to Nutro. I am disappointed because the ingredients lead you to believe that it would be good choice. Sorry not impressed.

All my animals love this food and so do I! It is not too pricey for what it offers and the palatability is not compamised either!

Not one of my favs. Have tried it ~ 1 out of 3 like it. Other dog food brand made by this company is Diamond Dog Food.

I have used this dog food since i got my puppies. I also work for PetSmart and sad to say you realy need to be careful which dog food you feed them, there are some really bad ones out there! Beware and read the ingredants!

This is a great food, I switch back and forth between it and Canidae Platinum just to give the dogs a little variety. You should not add anything to any dog food you buy as you upset the balance the companies work hard to achieve. I saw where somebody said they added yogurt, apple, etc. then blamed the dog food when their dog got sick. Science Diet in my opinion is crap, look at the ingredients, more corn than anything. Same with the store bought crap. CS is one of the quality foods, check ingredients. Stay away from corn, wheat, or soy, dogs are carnivores, need a quality meat as the protein, the first 3 ingredients are the main ingredients. For Americans, buy a food made in America, not China!

For a long time we used Purina, Iams, even Pedigree before we realized they had bad ingredients. None of these past brands ever cause problems with our dog, though we did frequently mix in some meat. I just switched to Chicken Soup for our new 10 mo old puppy and the vet says it is the food that is giving him gas. It's a shame because he loves the taste and the ingredients look pretty good. The vet recommended Purina Pro but I think I will try something better first.

please read (research) the ingredients. you wouldn't feed your local sewer alligator this food if you knew what some of those words meant.

I'm only 1/4 of a way through this book, and at age thirteen I can't believe how much this book has touched my heart. It was enough to make even ME (the toughest thirteen year old girl my family and friends have ever seen) cry! I bought this book today at Barnes and Nobles thinking I would hate it, but I loved it. It reminds me about what I have in store for years to come with my puppy!

I think this product is great. Wonderful ingredients and my pets just love it too. I is just so hard to find in stores.

This food is a superior dog food. My dog has been on this since his breeder fed it to him at birth. He is in perfect health, his coat is shiny, and stays remarkably clean (I'm amazed that he doesn't ever smell like a dog).

Started using this food a couple of weeks ago - our 1 year old Rottie and 10 week old Boerbol love it. Coats are shiny and they took nicely to the food change. No issues with runny stool or gas. Wish we had started using this food from the begining.

We had our 3 healthy dogs on this food CS for about 8 monthes, they have been taken off. About six months ago one dog started having skin issues, another dog started having vometing issues and the third dog gained 15 pounds. In the last 2 weeks we have had tumors removed from 2 dogs one of witch tested positive for cancer(mast) the other benign but most likely to come back and the third dog has one syst and 3 fatty deposit tumors. We started out with 3 healthy dogs, we should have stuck to science diet, we hardly ever saw the vet. If your dog is pooping less it is not digesting properly. I would not recomend this food. We were told to save our dogs healthand get it back to normal, put them on a naturaly high protein and very low carb diet. Real chicken, and puppy food, iams puppy chow, dry. Good luck and hope for the best for all animals and their humans.

I have found CS to be a very satisfactory dog food. I feed it in conjunction with a home cooked diet. My dogs have never had any digestive or allergy problems from this food. Living in a rural area, it is the best food available without having to order through the mail.

watch out with this product. it contains ethoxyquin which is a chemical preservative banned in human good because its believed to be a carcinogenic.

My dog has acute pancreatitis, and I switched to CS food, and this is the only food that controls it. We mix the adult dry food, with the adult wet food. We also notice her stool looks better, and it is easy for her to poop. Her coat looks better, she's more active, doesn't throw up, any more. I'm sticking with it!
DimondsChihuah uas 03/24/2007
I have been feeding CS for about 5 yrs. Before I had fed Nutro, Iams, Eukanuba & several other premium brands. One of my dogs had digestive problems with all these foods because they contain corn. I switched to CS & they have great coats, teeth, sound bones & muscles. They are show dogs & do great in the ring. My puppies are healthy & are started on CS for pups as soon as they are old enough. While I've had no problems with CS products, I do think there should be better controls on dog food companies to assure a good, consistant product. I think the new scare should alert the dog food snobs to the fact that no dog food is perfect. I own my own lab so I do routine testing of my dogs' food.
FinnsMom 03/17/2007
My dear family member, Finn our Newfoundland dog died on October 22, 2005, up until that day, he was as spry as a two year old - the necropsy determined that his liver was completely gone, I had been feeding him Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul - augmenting it with yogurt, organic apple, wild salmon, organic lettuce, organic carrots and on occasion celery. Dog Food processing plants just don't seem to take the same precautions that human grade processing plants take; an argument for a different brand or different procedure perhaps? Best case, the food didn't provide enough nutrients or perhaps too many toxins to enable him to fight off whatever was attacking his liver. There was a recall right after Finn died but it was only for other dog food brands that this specific food processor plant mixed.

I've had my 2 dogs on the adult formula for several months now after switching from another brand. Although I hate the name ( reminds me of the HeadOn commercials- you know- hate the name, love the product )my Basset and ACD have done fairly well on it. Both had experienced grass eating, vomiting, and stomach upset on the previous food. After several different brands, this ended up being our Obi Wan Kenobi for dog food available in our area. We live in a rural area & are on a budget, so the "super" premium brands either aren't available except by mail or are too pricey. Chicken Soup is comparable to other moderate "Premium" brands- $17.99 for an 18 pound bag. Can't beat it for the 4 ingredients: chicken turkey, chicken meal, ocean fish meal, barley. It does list several grains, BUT NO CORN. My ACD isn't crazy about it but will eat her fill, and my Basset, well you know how Bassets are about food. No loose stools, no vomiting, no grass eating. The ONLY drawback is that my Basset's breath smells fishy when she barks at me or whoever is the lucky recipient. I'll take that over a vomit filled kennel any day!
reddobe 01/22/2007
My dogs love it! They're healthy, their coats look great. The ingredients are great and so is the price! I've had my dogs on this food for 9 months and I'm very happy with it. I have an 11 month old red dobe and his coat looks great ( I also supplement with Missing Link, vitamin C, and Fish Oil)
licker 01/10/2007
I researched ingredients and thought this was best for the price. My dog has been on it for a year now. This past fall she developed loose stool, turned bloody. Had extensive tests done and they could not find anything wrong. We noticed a sudden change in her stool, for the better and realized in coincided with opening a new bag of food, Senior, dry. Also noticed the food was darker. We then bought only the 6 or 8lb bags. All was good for awhile until we opened a new bag, noticed the lighter color and sure enough, within 2 days she was having problems with loose stools again. This must be poor quality control. I am VERY disappointed. You would think after the problem with the Diamond recall they would be paying closer attention.

I raise and breed boxers, and have done extensive research to ensure that what I feed my dogs and puppies is the best possible. My 4 dogs absolutely LOVE CS, and so has every litter of puppies that we've had. I highly recommend it to everyone that I talk to, and to those who buy my puppies. Those who I have recommended it to have only praises about it. With high quality ingredients, the way the dogs spark up when I fill their bowls and the great price I can't imagine feeding my dogs and puppies anything else!

I only feed my Borzoi, (Russian Wolfhounds), three brands. Innova Adult, Chicken Soup Adult Formula, and Canadae All Life Stages. I mix and change to receive the benefits from all three of these better dry dog foods. I supplement with table scraps, smoke pork necks, raw hamburger, etc.. I have never experienced any problems with loose stools. This is usually due to those who convert too quickly from a poorer grade of food to a much better grade. Too many people blame the food!! You would probably have stomach problems and loose stools if you immediately went from a corn based food to real meat. The conversion needs to be gradual so the dog and adjust. Some say to find a food and stick with it, though I prefer to give my dogs variety. Read the first five ingrediants and this tells all. No corn, all meat or meat meal. The ingrediants are listed in order from most to least percentage of content. Of the three I named above, Chicken Soup in my opinion is the best value.
SHIBAINUS 11/11/2006
raise and breed shibas, I have feed everything from pro-plan,eukunuba,innova,and other expensive brands. when showing my dogs the one comment is always how nice there coat is and what I feed them. This is the best food to date I'VE FOUND.
Magicman121271 11/03/2006
Love this food!! I have been through Iams (didn't know any better), Nutro Lamb & Rice (good food, was just looking for better), and Solid Gold (loved this food, but the price kept going up and got to expensive). This food solved all issues. My three Goldens have been on it for almost a year and their coats are awesome!! They love the taste and have no problems eating it. I now have a puppy and she is now four months and has only eaten Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers' Soul since she has been home (I don't feed large breed foods for Goldens). She is doing very well and loves the food.
nicoble 11/01/2006
Dogs seemed to like the taste but it gave them loose, very large stools an a lot of gas . One of my dogs started scratching and paw licking so I had so switch . I have them on California natural now and they are doing a lot better .

NO COMPLAINTS! My now 7 year old Boxer used to have SEVERE allergies which cause her to have huge bare, bloody spots on her face, ears and head. Vet was going to REMOVE almost all of her right ear due to this (have switched vets----what an idiot) Anyway, I have always been true Blue Purina fam (and still recommend it) Purina Pro Plan is awesome, but for my Boxer, she continued to have the allergy problems. I started her on Chicken Soup almost 2 years ago and knowck on wood, she has not had ANY allergy symptoms (this is a dog who had this issue 2-3 times a year!. I also have a 1 1/2 year old Standard Poodle who is on it (he was raised on Purina Pro Plan Puppy and switched to Chicken Soup about 3 months ago). He is doing well on it also. I have no complaintes at this point, but I will admit I was leary knowing it was a Diamond product.
BustersHuman 10/02/2006
I let my dog try the canned "Chicken Soup" and he turned his nose up at it. TWICE!! Maybe that explains why it was the least expensive of all the ultra premium foods. I thought about trying the dry version as the ingredients listed seemed to be pretty good, but once I had heard who manufactured it (makers of Diamond dog foods), and considering there are many other better choices available, I decided that it wasn't worth the risk.
jsbritts 09/23/2006
Fantastic food and a very decent price for the ingredients. I feed less and this is the only dog food my two britts have eaten ravenously for any extended period of time. Try it out!
EmmaAnne 08/16/2006
ALERT!! The formula has recently changed and now contains ethoxyquin!! This preservative is known to cause cancer and is used in the 'ocean fish meal' now on the adult formula ingredient list. We're switching to another quality kibble and avoiding Diamond products!! Buyer beware....
poopscooper 08/06/2006
Best food on the market. I feed it to my Bulldog abd GD and they both are Champions. My vet who is a close freind feeds it to his dogs.
lucy2 07/23/2006
Our 2 dogs like this kibble and do very well on it. They have beautiful fur, no stomach problems; although I have to advise people when switching from another food to go very slowly with the transition and since the food is concentrated not overfeeding as I did in the beginning. This food has great ingredients and is pretty reasonably priced. We've had the dogs on a lot of different premium brands because one would do good on it but not the other etc. This one agrees with both so we are staying with it.
ilovemydoggies 06/25/2006
I really like this food and so do my dogs. I live in a rural town and we really can't get a lot of the really good foods here such as Innova or Canidae without having it shipped in, which is REALLY expensive. I think that this is just all around a good food.
jlphilli 06/24/2006
Very good ingredients (hate the name). Just switched my puppy to this from Wellness (the new formula from Wellness gave him gastric issues). We'll see how it goes; seems like a great food. **UPDATE** He was doing well on it until he lost interest in the taste and began to barely eat it at all. Had to mix it w/ canned to get him to eat and after awhile he even picked through that. The vet said there wasn't anything wrong with him, so it's not health related...he just needs to gain a little bit of weight. Despite his lack of eating it, he was doing well on it so I'm sticking by my opinion that Chicken Soup is a good food; too bad my dog won't eat it (anymore). Also, I have issues w/ it being manufactured by Diamond and their major quality control issues. ***For more discussions on dog food, visit my DOG FOOD DEBATE web forum @ http://dogfood.suddenlaunch3.com/index.cgi ***

I've had my 2 dogs on it for about 2 months. I love it, they love it, the ingredients are great and the price is too!
Laurayla 06/05/2006
I have only been feeding this food (the Senior formula) for about 2 weeks, but my three dogs all love it and the yard waste is only about half of what it was when they were eating Nutro Natural Choice Lamb & Rice, so the digestibility must be pretty good. Too soon to tell weight, coat, etc., but they seem to be doing well on it. Love the ingredients. Hard to find in my area.

The ingredients listed look good, however my mini-pinscher/pomeranian dog had diarrhea and indigestion when she was eating this food. We switched her to a bones/raw food diet and she's doing great, now. She loves to eat! With the Chicken Soup food, she would frequently refuse to eat, or would just take a few bites and leave the rest. I'm not sure what is wrong with the food, but it seems something is.
LeAnn from Ohio 04/12/2006
We have a 10 week old miniature schnauzer and he was no lamb and rice Nutro and just kind of picked at his food, would only eat about twice a day. My breeder recommended CSPLS and he inhales it three times a day. So far we have not had any problems but he has only been on it two days. I like the ingredients and feel this is a good choice. I am giving Chicken Soup a one rating since a zero rating was not allowed and since I will never feed it to my dogs again. I had just switched to Chicken Soup because everyone said it was so good - but after just six bags of it I found a dead mouse in the previously sealed bag! It was an 18 pound bag with no holes in it (batch # CSD0101EB12XJL0453, best before 6 July 07). The store I purchased the food from offered me another bag for free (no way!). I have called the Diamond company and no one has returned my call yet (two days). They obviously have a serious quality control issue.
pendragoncorgi s 03/26/2006
Before I gave it 5 stars just for ingredients, but I decided that's not a good way to rate something so I am changing it. I changed it to good because my dogs did do well on it, but I had one dog who decided she didn't want to eat it anymore. Now back to the rest of my original message: I have a Doberman and a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Both dogs were eating just fine and then one day Chansey the Corgi decided she wasn't going to eat it anymore. Took her a whole day and night to finish the bowl. Corgis are NOT known to be picky eaters. So although I was happy to get the chance to feed this to my dogs, I must move on to something she WILL eat.
ellabells 03/13/2006
My dog did ok on this food, but after a few months, she decided she didn't like it and just refused to eat it, no matter what I mixed in to tempt her.
jreinca 03/11/2006
We have two 3-year old Golden Retrievers who have been on Chicken Soup since they transferred from puppy chow. They are in excellent condition and are fed two cups of the dry kibble, a little water and half can of wet dog food daily. 70 pounds each and excellent health. The real story is their 15 year old step sister, a mixed cocker-poodle. She was failing fast, but the switch to Chicken Soup restored her health and vigor.
Eastgsd 03/10/2006
My dogs and cats really do not like this food. I tried it a couple of times and each time the same result, they really do not like to eat it. They did not thrive on it either, had poor coat and muscle condition. Digestability is on the lower end as typical for many Diamond products. I think the idea of the food is a good one and am happy for those that have success on this product.
mjsalinas 02/25/2006
I switched my beagle to it. She has problems with dog foods that contain any red in them and gets upset to her stomach. Also her skin was dry and flaky and her coat was dry. After getting her switched, within a couple of weeks her skin majorly toned down on flakiness and her coat is about as soft as a puppies coat. My beagle is 7yrs. old. My vet said it was due to the fat content which adds moisture. My beagle is happy and no longer trying to puke up food or water every so often. That has stopped completely. This food can add weight quickly though if you do a mix of 25% soft, 75% hard. I had to drop that to 10% soft, 90% hard. This way she gets both of what she needs. Within a week and a half she gained 5lbs which is not healthy for a beagle. I just adopted an adult dog, a husky mix, and adjusted him to it and again it has done wonders for his coat and he also likes it with no problems. We haven't had the weight gain with him because we had learned our lesson with our beagle. We stick with the 10/90% mix between soft and hard. You can actually see the veggies in the soft food!
sunshine24 02/17/2006
CS Adult dog formula cleared up my dog's eye boogers and shedding problems. However, she is not that eager to eat it. She is about 30 pounds and I usually feed 2 cups with other brands. She's having trouble eating all 2 cups of CS. She seems to only want 1 cup. I don't know if this is because the quality is so much better that she only wants that much, or if she is picky.
