'Tis more about rating and posting than about serious photo-sharing and photo-presentation. Being somewhat lacking in optimalization as of browsing, it has got a lot to improve but still offers some nice features

Wow. it is amazing how hard and/or un-intuitive it is to do some simple things with flickr. Can some one please point me to a good photo sharing service (that ideally ports into multiple printing companies)? This could have been picassa but they fell short a year ago when i tried them.

flickr's main asset seems to be that it has a well-established community of users who post & rate. i still prefer picasa.

Flickr tracks your IP address. Any indiscretion, whether intentional or accidental results in being deleted without warning. Once you've been deleted once, forget it! Every new account you create will get deleted within days because they have your IP! This is more bizarre coz some people show some extreme nudity in public sections that your kids could easily find yet they don't get checked or deleted until somebody complains! There are serius floors with flickr!

Flickr is one of the jewels in the Yahoo crown and is a fantastic place to share photography. Consider that before Flickr, the concept of a "public photo" didn't exist on all of the other photo sharing sites around at the time. Of course, it has led to massive copyright infringement of people's work, but these are people that most of us wouldn't have found out about anyway if not for this service.

What differentiates Flickr is the tagging and sharing components, and the fact that they open up their service for other sites to use. A search on Flickr for somebody's name, will display all photos that have been tagged with that person's name. A search on Technorati for somebody's name, will display Flickr photos in the margin. It's a neat site - especially if you don't mind sharing your photos with strangers.
