Of course things will be a bit one-dimentional and simplistic, but this is anime, a fantasy world, so not everything is going to be realistic. I bought the Anime merely out of curiosity on how the "battle of the sexes" would pan out and albeit my really lousy sense of humor, I enjoyed it greatly on all accounts to the effect of now owning the entire series. I think that when we over analyze things, is when it becoms annoying or un-enjoyable and then it's not worth watching. So let's all just let our brains go on hold and actually watch it for what it's supposed to be, a light hearted look at how life coul be humorous if men were from Mars and women did come from Venus. I'm not cranky or anything, just have to take it from a "child" perspective so that people aren't scared to try it. So give it a chance people, I enjoyed it immensely and is one of my fave animes ever!!

 | JonTheMan (28) 03/18/2004 | Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus --- A show with an unusually large cast of mostly one-dimensional yet curiously entertaining characters with an unusual undertone to them all. This undertone being that in this warped future men and women quite literally live on different planets and only know of the existence of eachother through the propaganda of their leaders. The male and female elements of the crew are thrown together by necessity but after the terrified males are reassured the women are not trying to eat them, they end up forging a bond with eachother (which given their inexperience of their opposing genders is rather cute). Combat is typical anime fare which yes, means the invariable transforming giant robots, however this is pulled off in a surprisingly nice-looking way with CG giving the space combat segments a Star Trek feel. For the times it tries to be clever, this is a bit hit and miss, on one hand it can raise some good points about the nature of self-esteem and on the other the whole existentialist experiment seems a tad OTT (Who is Hibiki? What is the proof Hibiki exists? and the inevitable Nyargh! I must prove my existence! Nyaaargh!). Anyway despite a couple niggling faults this is a colorful sci-fi piece with an ample dose of vibrant gender comedy, very entertaining.
