The food isnt as bad as you are all claiming it to be. I fed my dogs royal canine special 30 because they would throw up Eukeneba, and Wellness super 5 mix. They hated the wellness and would rather starve than eat it, and when they did they threw it up. Royal Canine DID make my pomeranians fur shiny/glossy, healthy and it gave them Uber amounts of energy. The only reason I am switching to Solid Gold is because I'm tired of thier prices and they are never on sale.

Just because a dog will likes the taste or is 'doing fine' shouldn't not be the #1 deciding factor of buying a dog food. Think of the stress you are putting on his digestive system by feeding lower quality food. Read the ingredients on any of royal canins foods and you will see how many grain fragments their are and the corn, oh the corn! So many dogs have allergies to this I mean why even put it in a dog food to begin with. THis company doesn't care about the well being of your pets, they care about the fat capital they make from you for selling such a cheap food for high high prices. THey're trying to trick you into thinking you're feeding premium when it's a very below par food. You can go to costco and buy a food thats much better for your dog for less then half the price of this crap. The main reason your dogs like the taste is because this food is sprayed with animal fats and digest to make it tasty. At the end of the day the #1 thing that should determine what dog food to feed should be the quality of the ingredients then followed by the value.

I USE ROYAL CANIN LARGE BREED PUPPY FOR MY BOXER DOG, AND FOR MY PERSIAN AND HIMALAYAN CAT I USE THE RC SKIN AND COAT. I HAVE READ SO MANY COMMENTS ON THIS FOOD THAT WERE BAD, AND I HAVE TO TELL YOU MY DOG AND CATS DO WONDERFUL ON THIS FOOD. I DON'T CARE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY THIS FOOD IS GREAT. I WILL CONTINUE TO FEED THIS FOOD. IT'S THE BEST!!!!!!

Standard Poodle, Giant Schnoodle, Golden Doodle, all free feeders on Royal Canin Slow Growth for puppies. All at their ideal weight. Tons of energy, with great coats. Our Schnoodle was born with genetic kidney problems and she has had no issues due to her food. Our vet is impressed with their top notch conditioning. They are athletic, run and play all day, and all like their Royal Canin. If your dogs don't like a food, why try and feed them something they won't eat, even if it's "better" for them? Price isn't the object. The dogs health is.

The dogs that I had about 8 years ago really did well on this food. The only thing that stops me from feeding it now is the price

Well, I have done a lot of research on which kibble has the best to offer & let me tell you that it doesn't matter if you buy the most expensive kibble out there, if your dog doesn't like it, it makes no difference. I see alot of people on here sharing their views (which is what this is here for) However, I think that some people are forgetting that what's good for one dog, is not so good for another. When I got my dog, the breeder was feeding Science Diet. So, I stuck to SD. Well, turns out my little guy wasn't too crazy about it, so I did my research and slowly sampled about 10 different kinds of food (Blue, Innova, Royal Canin, Science Diet, Wellness, Nutro for example). Would you believe that I saw the best results from feeding him Pedigree puppy food? He loved it, had tons of energy & looked great. As he went from puppy to dog, he didn't adapt well to the dog food, so I we tested several more brands of dog food. I had done my reading, and found that I was the most impressed by the Blue Buffalo Wilderness kibble. Well, the dog loved it, but even after a slow wean that took about 1 month, his gas was horrible! So bad, in fact, that one night when I caught a whiff of it, I thought he had pooped in the house (which he hadn't) After a month or so, I just couldn't take it anymore and we decided to try the Royal Canin Boxer 26, within 2 weeks - the gas was gone. He eats alot more slowly, he leaves less waste and has gained 5#. I guess you just have to find what works for your animal. I used to think that people who fed their animals lower quality pet food were inhumane cheapskates, it took owning a finnicky dog of my own to realize that's not true. Different strokes, man.

I was feeding my 2 pitbulls Solid Gold and it sucked. My dogs looked skinny and unhealthy. One of them would throw up the food. So i switch over to Royal Canine and my pits love it. They both have thick bodies and muscles are lean. They are very healthy and active. Best Food ever!!!

I have been feeding my German Shorthaired Pointer puppy this food for about 3 months. She is a very active puppy and had trouble keeping a good body condition on other foods I tried. This food has a very good energy balance for puppies, and this company thoroughly researches what dogs need for proper nutrition. Growth is such an important part of a puppies life, there is no way I could feel good about feeding my puppy food from a company that doesn't do its own research. I have a happy, healthy puppy, and Royal Canin foods are partly responsible for that.

My dogs love this food, and I love what this food does for my dogs!! I own two dachshunds and a chocolate lab. They all have shiny soft coats, and rarely shed. They have firm poops and have never been sick. They all have awesome muscular development, and great stamina. When I first brought my baby dachshund from the breeder she had runny eyes and had developed puppy vaginitis, ounce I put her on this food it all cleared up and has never developed since then. My lab hunts/obedience/agility. My dachshunds show/obedience/agility. When any one asks which food to feed their dogs I always recommend this food!!!

I dumped this food and went with a brand Orijen and boy am i glad we did. My giant schnauzaer wasent putting on the weight and my vet told me the royal canin food did not have a good level of protein and was a overall bad food. He told me about this other brand even though he didnt carry it. Once we switched we noticed a slight pep in the step of out dog. He seems to be more atheltic, happier, and his dodo is much more solid. Royal Canin is a waste of money.

I dont care what anyone says about Royal Canin we love it my gsd love it and are very healthy it is on the list of recomended dog foods so it cant be all that bad,I WONT CHANGE...

Labs and Bernese Moutain Dog - no problems. Happy, energetic, normal stools, shiny and gorgeous coats. Don't believe all the manipulative reviewers on this site.

I have a 3 year old female lab who would attempt to eat her poop since she was a pup. We tried the prescription meds at $30.00 a month for 2 months did not work. We switched her to organic dog food and this did not work. She now eats Royal Canine for labs and has stopped eating her poop. We are on the 3rd bag. Her coat looks great etc. She does nibble on the food all day instead of racing to the dog bowl like she did the past. But as far as I am concerned she will stay on this food.

**Update** And again, I find another company that attempts to "teach" vets about proper nutrition. This is beginning to piss me off. Go to the Royal Canin site and look for the article on the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition(they won't let me put the url here) Basically, this is about an annual clinical nutrition and research symposium hosted by (you guessed it) Royal Canin. It is no wonder that vets don't know shit for good nutrition, they are taught by the worthless companies. If you have a vet that currently endources Royal Canin, Science Diet, Iams/Eukanuba, Purina or any other grocery food, I would seriously consider getting a new vet now!
Oh look, another veterinary reccomended food has been recalled. 2 Royal Canin Veterinary Diets have been recalled as well as the entire Sensible Choice line (By Royal Canin). The reason they were recalled was because they contained the smae rice protien that was found in the Natural Balance foods. Just as a general rule, you should stay away from foods that are sold in Petsmart, Petco, Grocery Stores, and Vets Offices. Notice, that all of the foods recalled could be found in one or all of those places. Safe foods are those found only in Small Independent Stores because they do not have to mass produce and do not have to cut costs in order to sell to the big chain stores. This also makes it highly unlikely that they would change ingredients in the food, since they would not have the pressure to cut costs. Some good alternatives are Nature's Variety, Innova, or Canidae.

Disturbing marketing. Mind numbing and brain washing for the masses.

Royal Canin For German Shepherds woks really well for my German Shepherds. I finally got the Diarria to go away. my friend uses the Shi-zue kind and she doesn't have skin problems anymore. Nothing work till she got on this food. Although some like it and some don't, it is because like us, dogs are different. What one dog can handle another maybe able to handle. I have used many brands for my dogs and I had a hard time finding a good one, and after 3 to 4 years of diarrea I finally found one that works. Royal Canin German Shepherd. GSDs have a sensitive stomic so it is hard to find something good.

I have been feeding this to my pets, thinking I was giving them a premium food. I might as well have bought Ol' Roy. Since researching this I have discovered it is absolute crap!! No wonder my cats are sick & my dogs have allergies. The cat food is even much worse than the dog food. I have literally spend thousands on this horrible stuff as I feed 45 animals! I switched everyone today & will take the rest back to PetsMart. I am so mad I was ripped off & decieved - I wish I could sue them! Get this it is Meat meal & corn filler, look that up, I have probably killed the poor things.

Yes This Dog and Cat food is pricey but the thing is that since I've changed from Science diet kitten food to Royal Canine indoor and kitten formula they are having healthier coats and does not poop as often and their bowls do not make one vomit from the stench. My chihuahua also has been through many brands of premium dog foods such as , Bil-Jac, Science Diet, Nutro, Eukanuba, Royal Canine seems to help her with her teeth and her breath. She never over eats but maintains a healthy weight. She use to have digestion problems and had bleeding stool but since I've changed to Royal Canine its helped with her digestion tremendously. Not saying it was a miracle food that made her stop bleeding the reason for that was because she had worms and it caused her to have upset stomachs. She's only two pounds and I spend about $33 of dog food a year and its that big size of chihuahua formula. I think its worth the money to be honest!

Just got my first cat I owned myself my fiance brought him in and I put in first on Sience Diet. When I forst got him his coat was all shiny and full put him on Sience Diet indoor for the first few months, his coat semed to, almost within a week turned dull and he was just kinda laying around and had no energy I was pretty worried bc my folks had a cat that had feline leukemia and had the same symptoms. I thought I would try something else. So i put him on Royal Canin Indoor cat food. Within a week his coat turned a shiny black and filled back out. He had a big jump in energy as well and is doing fine. My parents have used Royal Canin Veternarian Varietys for years. Our first cat we had had developed a cough and the vet said he would not live for much longer then found out what food we were using it was IAMS he said that IAMS and Sience diet and most other foods use Ash as a main ingredient (filer) in their food and that was the cause of why he was on the verge of dying. Put him on Royal Canin and within weeks his cough dissapeard and he lived for another 10 years. If you want longetivety of a pets life use Royal Cannin we have had 6 cats and 5 dogs over the years all the cats have lived alomst 20 years and the dogs 2 Eskimo Spits 17 years and a Yorkshire Terrier 19 years. You woldnt want to eat ash in your food as an every day diet why feed your animals the same. High in vitamins and minerals to help your animals live a great healthy life. Only thing the cats goten a little fat on the stuff likes it too much. Im gonna have to put him on more of a diet. Also we live out in the country and the neighbors animals all come over to eat our cat and dog food bc its the best and most nutient filled food on the market

my breeder originally gave us a different food, but my picky dog hated it..he tried the puppy 33,and loved it.hes now on adult 27 but is disliking it now,it is over priced but the only food my dog will eat.
snoopsnoop 02/06/2007
This food is garbage. Corn should never appear in a "super premium" food, as they like to claim. It's honestly too pricey for the quality that is not there. I will not ever feed it. Period. Not to mention their Product Reps are unprofessional, to say the very least.

I am so glad that I found special 30, its the FIRST dog food I could get my Jack Russell to eat at 4 months old. We had tried over 8 brands, even a couple of canned type all she hated or would eat one or 2 bites, now she eats.

This food is SCARY ! I am a shihtzu breeder. I used this last year and my dogs got thinner, and thinner, and then one day my friend who is also a shihtzu breeder had a female that was due to to deliver puppies drop over dead. The vet said after an autopsy that it was malnutrition, and the 7 puppies this mama was carrying were rotting away. The food sat on the shelf WAY too long. Since this is preserved with vitamin E, the shelf life is NOT long. It went rancid and the bag, when we FOUND the date, was almost 4 years old. Check the dates people, especially with natural food. Some of my litters were less than desirable, very thin babies, and I am lucky my dogs lived. My breeder friend not only lost this one mama and her pups, but lost other adults as well when she fed them this horrible food.

IMPORTANT RECALL NEWS http://www.dailytidings.com/2006/Mar%202006/0317/03 1706c1.shtml March 17, 2006 Healthy Pets Royal Canin recalls some lines of pet food Stephen Tesluk Last week I learned that Royal Canin, a French company that produces several dog and cat food brands, has recalled certain types of prescription dog and cat foods because they were causing increased calcium levels in the animals that consumed them. Calcium is a vital mineral that has many important functions in the body. It is the major component in bone, which acts as the bodys storehouse for calcium. Calcium is required for muscle contraction, nerve conduction, and other essential functions carried out by many types of cells in the body. Because calcium is so important, the body has developed means of keeping calcium levels within strict limits. Vitamin D is one of the three compounds that control blood levels of calcium. Vitamin D causes increased absorption of calcium from the intestine, increased release of calcium from bone, and increases the amount of calcium recovered from the blood that is filtered through the kidneys. The Royal Canin diets that were causing hypercalcemia in dogs and cats had too much vitamin D added to them. The kidney is the organ most sensitive to increases in blood calcium levels, and signs of hypercalcemia in dogs and cats include increased water consumption and urination, vomiting, diarrhea, and depression. If untreated, hypercalcemia can lead to kidney failure and death. Because vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, it can accumulate in body fat where it is released slowly, so that the hypercalcemia persists for weeks even after the diet has been changed. Royal Canin first recalled their Canine Urinary SO canned diet on Feb. 2 by sending a letter directly to the veterinarians that sold the diet. In the letter, they stated that they started "an exhaustive nutrient analysis" of their canned products and reported that only the Canine Urinary SO cans marked "best before 03/2007, 05/2007, and 06/2007 were affected. More than a month later, a second letter was sent out that added the five following diets to the recall list: Royal Canin Veterinary Diet, Canine Low Fat canned, best before 6/2007; RCVD Canine Calorie Control canned, best before 4/2007 and best before 7/2007; RCVD Feline Sensitivity VR canned, best before 5/2007; RCVD Feline Calorie Control canned, best before 4/2007; and RVCD Feline LP pouch diet, best before 06/2007. I contacted a Dr. Bumitrescu at Royal Canin, who told me that the excess vitamin D came from a "premix" of additives that Royal Canin purchased from an outside supplier, and that the company had since stopped doing business with that supplier and had started checking the vitamin D levels in their final products. Bumitrescu also told me that IVD diets and Waltham diets (both owned by Royal Canin) were not affected. Bumitrescu also admitted that the delay between the initial single diet recall and the second multiple diet recall occurred because there was only one lab in the country equipped to check the vitamin D levels in their foods. When I questioned Bumitrescu on why feeding trials had not picked up the hypercalcemia problem, I got a surprising reply. She said that her company conducts feeding trials only on their maintenance diets intended for healthy dogs and cats, and not on any of the specialty or "prescription" diets. This sets Royal Canin apart from Hills, the leading producer of veterinary diets, who test all of their diets in feeding trials, and underscores the important role feeding trials play in establishing the safety of pet foods. I don't understand why, if this food is such a good one, would I have to feed so much of it to my dog? 5-6 cups a day is a LOT of food! Diamond is only 3 1/2, Blue Buffalo is only 2 3/4 cups. Royal Canin CAN'T be all that if my dog needs that much to get her nutrition. Feeding Royal Canin would break the bank at that rate.
jay1 05/14/2006
i had a lovely 6 month old german shepherd puppy that died at christmas due to hypercalcemia all i fed him was royal canin and have just learnt that royal canin have just recalled some food because of excessive levels of vitamin D3 which have lead to 8 cases of hypercalcemia in dogs and wont be buy any of there products again
Simonsays 05/12/2006
Simply the best petfood! It's a little more expensive than others, but since I give Royal Canin to my dog, he never refuses to eat and has no more digestibility and allergical problems! I think I will never change again.
jlphilli 05/02/2006
Just switched my puppy to the "Special 30 mini" because he refuses to eat other foods. Had him on Timberwolf Organics but it started to give him really soft, runny stools after a few months of eating it. So far this food has produced perfect stools and he actually finishes his dry food! Will update after he has been on it for awhile.
jboston 05/02/2006
We have 2 labs. The young one has allergies. They got bad when we decided to save a buck and mix in Iams with Royal Canin. Bad idea. Vet bills worse than food bills. Back to Royal Canin, no vet, no allergies. Both dogs happy.
Cayelynn 04/29/2006
My baby loves this food! She looks awesome and I contribute a large part of that to Royal Canin. My vet even said this was an awesome food (and they sell Science Diet:( The ingredients are good too and this is the only food that she will eat easily as I have tried Wellness, California Natural, Artemis, Chicken Soup and she wouldn't touch them.
Bullet7498 04/29/2006
Awesome food that my pup even likes. Only food I can get her to eat and it's awesome ingredients make her look so shiny. It's worth the higher price. She is on Mini Puppy 33.
TChase 04/22/2006
I have a very fussy Toy Fox Terrier and she just loves this food. Luckily it agrees with her as well. She is on the Mini Puppy #33. Thanks Royal Canin!
CLee 04/07/2006
dog's on special 30 mini... he's a picky eater. out of all the food he's been given on a long-term basis (science diet, nutrient, nutro.) he's eaten this the best... but it is still far from the best. he still doesn't eat it well enough... only when we coerce him to... ingredients could do much better with some additons and deletions...but still better than the grocery store brands. has TONS of room for improvement. one star for half-decent palatability. one star for half-decent ingredients.
dudley71 03/25/2006
i had my olde english bulldog on royal canin.i try to feed my dog the best possible food i can.i recently switched to timberwolf organics, after weening my dog off the royal canin his coat became dull and had alot of eye boogers.i should have kept him on the royal canin.i can only speak for my dog but he seems to do really well on this food.
makeupgirl 02/05/2006
I agree with the comment below about the food not being breed specific. I have dealt with the same dog breed for several years. After reading the specific foods and reasons for that breed when it first came out - I laughed. The worst option for English Bulldogs.
lovelab 01/31/2006
I think this food is great! I have a fussy Lab that won't eat any other dry dog food except for this brand. He loves the taste of it.-- he was on Eukanuba before.. and would not even go near his bowl at meal times. The Lab30 kibbles are also bigger than any other brand I've seen.. which is good, because many Labs have the tendancy to gulp their food too fast which can result in swallowing air and bloat can occur. The size of the kibble actaully makes the Lab chew properly. And also, my Lab hasent rejected a meal since I've switch to Lab30. =D
Beres 01/22/2006
I have a toy poodle that is somewhat picky. Breeder started her on Proplan but that's crap, although she loved it. Another poodle owner recommended Royal Canin and my girl loves it. Started her on Mini Special 30. Very small kibble which is taste intensive and easy for small mouths. I now mix if half and half with Mini Poodle 30. She loves it. Coat is very thick. She doesn't feel the cold. No skin problems, good energy level, very healthy. Update: In light of the dogs that died eating Diamond Pet Food, I'm even more committed to feeding this food. Unlike American companies, they test EVERY BAG!
Lixx 01/21/2006
Used it for 2.5 years and was very happy with it. I would still be feeding it if my second dog agreed with it. Could have less fillers, but the research atleast is there.
Grace Erick 01/20/2006
This food is terrible and really doesn't have ingredients that are special for each breed. A dog can eat bad food and look good and like the food, and a dog can eat good food and not do well on it, but that doesn't mean you don't try other good foods. A shiny coat is not the only way to tell if a dog food is doing good by your dog. You have to go by the ingredients. Your dog deserves better food like Innova, Solid Gold, Nature's Variety, etc.
Sabbatia 01/07/2006
The trainer recommended this to me, so I tried it and my Shiba LOVES it. She eats it great, her coat is shiney and she has tons of energy. It's worth the money.
MimiF 12/06/2005
Hi, i bought royal canin for my dog, the high endurance one. Sadly, my dog did not like it at all. Will not eat it what so ever. What does that say, I dont know, as you all know...for the price, it was a real waste of money.
Lizardkings1 11/03/2005
Food is ok, but for the price you can find alot better foods.
jasonsim 10/19/2005
Simply the best food I have found for my two bulldogs. Bulldog 24 is great! Dogs eat it very well and little to no mess. They don't inhale this food like some of the other ultra premium brands; who insist on making the smallest kibbles possible! No alergies either! Bulldogs are a hard breed to find food for. They often have skin problems and alergies to certain food ingredients. Way to go Royal Canin!!!
page81 10/12/2005
Best food on the market, the price however is on the high end.
greatdanelover 07/15/2005
Great stuff! After trying a dozen other brands, I found my favorite
Capri 04/02/2005
This food is crap and saying it is made for specific breeds is just a sales tool. Here is what's in the chihuahua food: Chicken meal, rice, ground corn, brown rice, soy protein isolate, chicken, chicken fat (naturally preserved with mixed tocopherols, rosemary extract and citric acid), natural chicken flavor, dried egg powder, dried beet pulp, powdered cellulose, That's a lot of rice and corn which isn't even great for dogs and causes more allergies in dogs. Dried beet pulp is just filler and what the heck is powdered cellulose? Sounds like plants, which is more fillers. This does not sound like a healthy diet for any dog. I don't see any ingredients that makes it good for chihuahuas. I think they have some nerve fooling people into thinking this is special food for a specific breed.
so_ist_brav 12/21/2004
My two lasted three months on this food. They did great at first, before long though they were shedding like mad & allergies popped up. This one didnt work for us.
joplum1 11/17/2004
This is my first purchase of this brand and this is the first food my dog will eat dry! All other brands I had to mix with moist. He has a VERY picky palate so I know this is good stuff!!
