I have a 11 month-old Male German Shepherd/Collie mix. I got him when he was 2 months old, and I have been feeding him Eagle Pack LArge & Giant Breed Puppy formula since the day I got him. After 9 months of being on this food, I can see the great Eagle Pack results. He is amazingly healthy and energetic. His long-length rust-coloured coat is soft and shiny, his teeth are healthy and glowing, his ears are clean and his breath doesn't smell. His stools are firm and normal-looking and he is very smart and has a great athletic physique. I plan on starting him in agility classes in the next month, and also plan on switching to the Eagle Pack Adult formula because I have seen 9 months of fantastic Eagle Pack results in my dog.

Because of a comment I have recieved, I am gloing to explain my review a little further. The Eagle Pack line has two different brands of food. Eagle Pack, and Eagle Holistic. Maybe it was just me, but I was under the impretion that this review section was for Eagle Pack and NOT Eagle Holistic. Yes, Eagle holistic is a good food (apart from the fact that they have a food based on anchovys), but the Eagle Pack food leaves little to be desired. Therefore, I have no idea why this food is rated so high? Althought there are no by-products, which is good, it still contains an extensive amount of corn and other grains. Corn is the number one allergen for dogs and is also a cheep source of protien. When you read the crude protein label on the bag, this includes all forms of protien, meat or not. The corn helps to boost the protien level in the food. Also, anchovy and sardine meal? (this is for the Eagle Holistic) Come on, would your dog eat that in the wild? The sign of a good food is that it contains meat that dogs would normally eat in the wild (such as duck, rabbit, chicken, and venison). I would love to see a dog eat an anchovy in the wild, I'd probably laugh my head off. (and as far as dogs living in the wild, NO, they would not last very long. Dogs are domesticated creatures, however, their bodys are still designed to eat certain meats. Anchovys not being one of them. Maybe I should correct myself in saying that what wolves would eat in the wild. Because, no matter of twisted and diluted the human race a breed the domestic canine to look on the outside, on the inside, they still have the same body parts and functions. So yes, I therefore decide if foods are appropriate by what their close relatives would eat in the wild. And I ask again...would you ever see a wolf eating anchovys? Bottom line, not a great food, especially for the price you have to pay for it, its no better than nutro and some of the "healthier" (if you could call anything by this company healthy) science diet lines. Try Nature's Variety or Innova, much better bang for your buck and it contains meat your dog would actually eat.

Eagle Pack Holistic Anchovy, Sardine and Salmon food has done some amazing things for my dog's coat and well being. He suffered from a dry, coarse coat, a lot of shedding and lazing around the house. We started him on this food about a month a ago to see if all the omegas would help his skin and coat. Not only is his fur softer and shinier, he's more peppy and alert. We're impressed.

Eagle Pack Holistic is a great food. I have had seven dogs on this and the results have been great. I've switched between all of the proteins and my dogs love all of them. I have pugs and boxers. I was shocked to read the review that was posted on 1/23/07 slamming Eagle Pack....no I'm not an employee of the company nor do I get any advantages for endorsing it...but I felt compelled to reply. I also have a dog that has stuggled with stuvite crystals and UTI's but she has been on this food for seven months and has recently tested clear of any crystals or infenction. I have spent many, many hours researching canine nutrition and have tried many foods and this is my favorite line. My dogs are all rescues that came from neglected backgrounds. This food has them all looking and feeling great. Their stools are small and the right consistency. Keep in mind that if you feed more than needed your dog will elimate more volume. Also if the dog has been eating an inferior food for most of his/her life it will take a while for their systems to adjust to a good diet. Switch slowly and give them at least a couple of weeks to adjust. Since being on Eagle Pack Holistic, all of my dogs have shiny, nice coats. Their ears are cleaner, their teeth are better and they have over all better health. I have a fourteen year old pug that we adopted when he was ten years of age and had been neglected up to that point. He recently had to have surgery and I had an extensive blood profile done beforehand and the vet was impressed with how good the results were given his age. She said it was much better than expected than with any dog his age. We attribute that with good nutrition. Only warning I'll give on this line is that the fish formula is very stinky (think of a fresh opened can of sardines or anchovies)....but it's great for dogs with allergies. I would try the duck formula before the fish.

Something is terribly wrong with Eagle Pack. Many of the Holistic Select varieties produced such huge stools that one of my dogs became incontinent and started pooping all over the house. The huge stools weren't a problem with the other Eagle Pack varieties, but half of the dogs developed struvite crystals in their urine, then severe bladder infections. And all of them began shedding . . . and shedding . . . and shedding! I have never in 30 years seen a dog food produce such horrible, out-of-cycle shedding. Eagle Pack is of such poor quality that dogs cant even maintain their coats on it. One of my dogs died of cancer at the age of four years while on this food, and I have to wonder. Other people who tried Eagle Pack have told me they had the same problems with huge stools, bladder infections, and endless shedding. But don't waste your time telling the company about the problems. I did, and they refused to even consider that there might be a problem. If you love your dog, stay away from Eagle Pack.

I have used Eagle Pack Holistic Fish for several years on my little yorkie and Shih Tzu. I originally got it fot the Shih Tzu because he has skin allergies and they have both done great. Very healthy skin ad coat and very few trips to the vet, just for normal shots etc. There very regular and stools are normal. There weight is consistent and they don't get sick,I would highly reccommend this to anyone who is interested in their dogs overall health. Both my dogs love it, i had used Royal Canine and swithched once and they prefer this and so do I.

I got a 4-month year old long haired Chihuahua about three weeks ago who had a dull coat. The vet recommended Iams, but I wasn't overly impressed with the ingredients so I tried Puupy Eagle pack with chicken. I don't think little Sammy is overly crazy about it, but his coat has gotten shiner and his stool is always firm. So I am very pleased.
MattyXL 01/09/2007
I have three small medium dogs (Boston terrier, Keeshond and Jack Russell mix) and am very satisfied with eagle pack, the stool is consistent and firm, my dogs like all flavors and the company is customer friendly. Their coats are beautiful and are extremely healthy.

This is a top notch food. I am a very small yorkie breeder and have had great success with this food. I love the ability to switch between the holistic versions and my dogs like each flavor. They have small, firm, odorless stools and their coats are fantastic. Website always has coupons too.

I am feeding the Eagle Pack Holistic Formula for large and giant breed puppies to my Great Dane puppy. She loves it and is doing great on this food. I chose it because it is highly recommended by the Great Dane Lady on her website and many Great Dane owners swear by this food. I would NOT use the regular Eagle Pack as it is not Holistic and not all Natural. Prior to this I used Canidae and liked it fine.
jlphilli 11/29/2006
I am very satisfied with this food. I have been feeding it to my picky, 1 year old Papillon for about 3 weeks now (switched from Timberwolf Organics). I feed the Holistic Duck dry formula mixed with the Holistic Lamb canned. He loves the taste and his energy, coat and stools are perfect. So far so good :)
bosgramma 11/16/2006
My little older dog eats the Eagle brand food fish food. Her breath is terrible with it but there is no chicken in it so she is not alllergic to it.
shelleyann 11/09/2006
I was not all all satisfied with Eagle Pack. I tried it with my 4 month old great dane puppy and he had no interest in it at all. Just looked up at me like "WHat is this mom?". I did not offer any other foods and figured that he would warm up to it. He did begin eating it, but had very loose stools even with the transition powder they sell. He began going in his crate even if left in there for only an hour. It had the most foul smell. Still makes me ill to think about it. I also noticed a lot more shedding when he was eating this product. I tried to give him time to adjust, but it did not get better. I would not recommend trying it.
nicoble 11/01/2006
When we adopted our puppy with 11 weeks he was on Eagle pack puppy .The breeder recomended it so we bought a medium sized bag that lasted forever . Puppy seemed not overly crazy about this food but ate it and seemed to do OK on it . I don't like the corn in it and I think that there are better quality kibble out there .
verybarry 08/22/2006
my dog had a very nice coat and minimal itching with Duck and Potato formula
2greygirls 07/08/2006
I gave this food 5 stars..I have two older greyhound ladies, one of which is very picky..I have tried everything. They did well on Nutro Natural Choice High Energy..but one of the girls had some loose stool issues..she does on many foods..I tried the senior formula as they are older ladies, and I like the higher protein content. They loved it, except miss picky has backed off a little so I am now adding the holistic fish formula. So far so good. Miss Loosy Poop has had frim stool on this food, and Miss Skinny Picky actually eats it...an incredible feat. People having puking isues may not have given this food a chance. If you have fed some of the more crap filled foods, it may take a bit for your pup to adjust to real ingredients..Eagle has a great additive that helps with the transition..it's called, oddly enough, Transition. Feed This Food it is worth every penny, as you end up feeding less.

I feed my dog and cat Eagle Pack and they do great on it. Small firm stools, shiny soft coats, no nasty dog odor or nasty breath. My dog is 7 and my cat is 8 and their vet and other people can't get over how old they are. Everyone thinks my 7 year old dog is a puppy because she looks so good and has so much energy. I highly recommend this brand. And it's actually a terrific value compared to other comparable dog foods out there.
Centraliowamas tiff 06/19/2006
Use the large and giant breed holistic formula. My 2 dogs have lower fecal volume which means higher nutrient utilization. Less gas and more energy. It's great! Have monthly coupon and frequent buyer program - after 11 bags the 12th is free.
katsnk9s 04/04/2006
Unless you're feeding the holistic variety, this brand is HEAVILY grain laden with the worst possible grain... CORN. WHy ? Because it's a CHEAP source of protein. Animals need MEAT BASED proteins...NOT plant based protein. I give it a thumbs down for being a cheap food w/alot of filler.
jamcony 03/26/2006
I just started feeding my dog the Eagle Pack Holistic chicken formula and must say that she loves it. Her stools are firm, she has a lot of energy and her coat is shiny. She gobbles it down before I can turn around.
rockheaded 03/10/2006
HINT: If your dog barfs the food up it's because either he/she is illergic or most likely they are not used to this food. When you go from one type of food to another (especially if you've been feeding your dog trash with a lot of extra preservatives) they may up chuck. That is why when you change to a holistic food you gradually work into it, mix maybe 50/50 of what your going from to what you are going to. I have a dalmatian. Her coat is beatiful! She cannot eat most foods. Infact most foods make her hair fall out so bad that she has bald spots. She doesn't care much for the dry eagle pack, I would say that isn't the fault of eagle pack I'd say it's most likely because she is a picky eater. I refuse to eat chicken or pork, doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it most people like it. Anyhow, I do mix her dry with canned and she is fine with it that way. My dog gets the best of everything and thus far I haven't found a better food.
Whippet Mom 01/11/2006
I have fed various formulas of Eagle Pack to my Whippets for the last few years. My dogs show and lure course and I have been nothing but pleased with the results I see from this food. My dogs have beautiful coats, solid stools, and good energy levels. Perhaps those who had problems with the food didn’t find the right formula for their dog. I have tried other super-premium brands and I have had the best results from Eagle Pack and highly recommend it.

My maltese has been on Eagle Pack Puppy formula since 10 weeks. She is now 5 months and loves that stuff. I am very happy with it.
Choc Lab Lover 11/04/2005
I have a 14 month old choc lab who has been enjoying Eagle's Large & Giant Breed Puppy since I brought him home at eight weeks young. He has great teeth, glowing coat, no health problems and full of energy. He runs 4 miles a day with me then walks 2 1/2 miles with my wife. He's 80 lbs of loving lab muscle. He gets compliments from everyone.

I had a dog that cost me about 3k at the vet, The vet never figured out what was wrong, I switched to Eagle Anchovy,Sardine & Salmon..WOW My dog has gotten very active and I swear he is taller. He has a great coat and I had to take him to the vet and show him how good he looks, (that visit was free) Bottom line TRY It!!
the pom queen 11/03/2005
over the last 15 years I have fed many different varieties of Eagle Pack. My dogs are healthy happy and need little to no supplementation. My vet comments on how healthy their bloodwork has been. ( I test the senior dogs every 6 months) he has even switched his mastiffs and frenchies to Eagle. The price on some of the formulas is a little higher than the standard foods, but you get what you pay for and this is NOT a standard food. I too have been provided with documentation on some of the ingredients. The nice thing is they make their own food so they have GREAT quality control and a lab right on site. This is not the only good food out there, but they are honest helpful people. My cats go crazy for the new Duck for cats. I think its a shame to read some of the nasty comments on this site as it is unnecessary and they are clearly untrue. I thank Eagle for the wonderful food they make as my beloved pets live long and healthy lives on it.
aztecmoon 11/03/2005
I have show dogs and after changing to Eagle Pack Holistic I saw a big difference in 30 days. This was after feeding another holistic brand for years. My older show dog is doing fantastic on the Eagle Pack Anchovy and still goes in the ring at 12 and wins! I can't say enough about Eagle Pack and how healthy my dogs are.
I-KNOW-IT-ALL 11/02/2005
Eagle makes the BEST large and giant breed food on the market... the calcium and phosphourus levels are correct (some so called premium brands dont even list the levels on the bag!!!) and the dogs need so little it is REALLY inexpensive to feed compared to nutro and science diet. My dogs look so good - white teeth, shiny coats and LOVE supper time ;) I WOULD RECCOMEND EAGLE TO ANYONE!!!
gentle1 09/20/2005
this is the best food around right now. all ingredients are natural, holistic, and some are organic. low ash, no perservatives, or colorings. you cannot do better for your dog. the best. ***** If people do not believe the ingredients list, then i can't help that. however, if your dog's health means anything to you, try this food and watch the results. ididerod champions are fed this food exclusively for a reason- it is great. 'nuff said, end of sentence.

I am currently mixing this with another high end dog food, and it seems to be working well - dog has solid stools, shiny coat, etc. So far my favrorite brands have been Eagle Pack, Natural Balance, and Canidae.
Eastgsd 08/14/2005
I love the Eagle Pack products. I have gotten great results and I truly appreciate their formulations. My only negatives are price, availability and the digestability on a few of the formulations is not as good as others. Overall very good products and worth the purchase.
Capri 05/22/2005
This co. says their chicken originates from a USDA plant but it doesn't say it ends up that way in the food. I feel they are very deceitfull in their adverstising, and I would not trust their co.
boygeorgerocks 04/13/2005
Funny I found these posts. I had the exact same problem where my dog threw up after trying to eat this feed. I'm not sure what it is but I read somewhere else online that one or more of the ingredients are actually harmful to dogs and that is why so many have this problem when switching to this food. I wouldn't recommend even attempting this food.
Hannahnanna 04/13/2005
After introducing the Eagle Lamb my dog started to eat his own stool. The shedding became ubeareable and I had to try another food.
hockeymom 04/07/2005
Switched my dogs over to Eagle Holistic Lamb after the puppy had a severe allergic reaction to Innova. The puppy had done great on it, growing all his hair back, small stools, and no runny eyes. People are amazed at his coat and he's now happy and bouncy. I will add the duck formula for variety and see how they do on that next.
tibahpla 03/21/2005
This food doens't even deserve a 1 star,I gave it to my dog and it just threw it up all over my rug, I tried to get them to reimburse me for the charges, but I recieved no answer or just got put on hold, so this is my last straw I am comming on here in hopes to warn everyone to stay away from this food, please!
Bigkidsonsmall bikes 03/13/2005
I think it's great. I buckle to peer pressure.

I have three collies. Since the Eagle Pack foods are designed for different stages of life, I feed each dog a different variety of Eagle Pack.

Two years ago, we rescued an abused chocolate Lab. She had been on the lam after running away from her previous owners, and her paws were raw, coat was dull, and her ribs stuck out. We immediately put her on Eagle Pack Large Breed Puppy. Today, she's a different dog. Mischivious eyes, healthy teeth and paws, and a beautiful, shiny coat that attracts people wherever we go. Even the vet commented on her girlish figure and wanted to know what we fed. She couldn't believe Allie was the same dog she treated two years earlier.
wes1907 03/03/2005
My Puppy did not enjoy it at all. Of what he actually was able to keep down resulted in diarrhea. I hope it does not cause any long term damage to my puppy's health.
Jillian 03/02/2005
This food is my number one choice for anyone with a dog or cat of any breed/size. The quality is top notch for the price and your pets will love it too. Stick with their Holistic line and your pets will be very healthy and happy.
sweetcake_99 03/02/2005
My bf fed his dog eagle pack, and he had no interest in that food at all. He just would spit it back out.
balitke 03/02/2005
Owning a variety for breeds, dog and cat. I have found the best results on Eagle Pack diets. I have tried many other foods in the past but none compare to Eagle. Its simply the best. Just ask any of my kids. They love it! And they have never looked better.
eranie957 03/02/2005
We have a 9+ year old sheepdog and he loves the food. It is also the best on the market - have tried other premium brands when it used to be difficult to get here, but his breath got awful and he would have digestive problems. On Eagle Pack Premium Select, his health is wonderful, much better breath and no stomach upsets. May try the Senior Formula, but we are loyal Eagle Pack customers (dog included)!
dgrampp 03/02/2005
It must be the custom supplements thes guys use, becaause my dog is so much more active now

I have fed Eagle Pack for 5 years and my dogs have done GREAT on the food.
pattycake 03/02/2005
My Golden/Chow mix LOVES Eagle Holistic and the Holistix biscuits. His coat is soft and shiny, his energy - over the top! I feel I'm feeding him excellent, natural ingredients that keep him healthy and happy. My Lhasa was on Eagle from puppy on and lived a wonderful healthy life to age 15.
jaydee042 03/01/2005
My dog has been eating Eagle since he was born. First, the Natural, then chicken(holistic) and now I just switched him to the new duck. I like to give him different formulas every so often. He has no problems, like runny stools when I switch formulas. Also the stools are small---less for me to pick up and carry on my walks. His coat is shiny and glucosamine helps his joints as he is getting older. I guess I could have just said the dog loves it!!!
