Too big, too expensive, and too high maintenance, horses have their fans, however. My dad is a horse fanatic.

??Cookie?? 06/24/2008
horses are good pets but not house pets they are very energetic, and fun to ride! But not easy at all to take care of!
twansalem 06/24/2008
If you have a farm or just are rich enough to afford keeping one in a stable, they could make good pets. But they are really high maintenance animals.
Candy980 06/24/2008
if you have the space...
TorontoChaser 06/24/2008

Horses can make wonderful, loving pets, and there are many fun activities you can enjoy with them. The drawbacks, of course, are the expense of feeding and housing them.
Jamie McBain 09/18/2007
Horses are great to have, if live in the country or on a farm. However, they are very expensive to take care of, and need alot of space.
HelloKitty09 08/29/2007
If Cuddles can guide her blind owner through the urban jungle called Manhattan, she's not pampered housepet.
ColtSeries70 02/27/2007
Horses are very sweet and smart. You can pet them and ride them, what is not to like.
LastMessenger3 08/08/2006
Horse is a very intelligent animal. I would love to have a horse if I lived on the farm, or some village, but for a city?
AlaskanBred 08/13/2005
if you have the room for one.. and i mean, like, pasture... then i suppose they would be great pets! i used to ride and the horses at the stable were wonderful.
Redoedo 06/17/2005
Requires more attention than most pets, and needs to be groomed and cared for properly. Owning one comes with a lot of responsibility. Not for everyone.
NJcoastergrl 04/22/2005
I always wanted a horse since like for ever!! I going to get one when i am older! I live in New Jersey!!
OlLineRebel 02/11/2005
Can be wonderful, and they're great to have for rides, but they're extremely impractical. You cannot keep them in your home; you need some distant home for them. And that's part of the extreme expense and high maintenance. Everything w/a big animal like this is EXPENSIVE, just daily regular maintenance. When he dies, what are you going to do? You'll be paying out again to have him removed, or doing alot of heavy work to move him to his grave if that's the plan. You're not getting much benefit unless you have your own farm stable by your home. You can't even see them much unless that's your job. Horses can be as wonderful as any other animal, but they're work and money, and you hardly get to enjoy their presence, cuz they can't live w/you.
ANSGARD 06/08/2004
horses are beautiful animals in general, but to own one you need to be very rich ! they need a lot or open space and food and then they need to be cleaned and washed and when they sweat, you need to look after them more. but after all, they are so lovely and smart i would have one if i had a bigger garden
Eagle Scout 11/18/2003
Horses by far are the most awesome inspiring animals. While I prefer a dog as a companion, I am always amazed at the power, beauty, and grace of a horse. However, they are high maintenance, expensive, and not practical for all people.
latinasexy 08/07/2003
Great animals.Maybe not really a good idea as a pet, though.
Anna_1981 07/25/2003
Horses are cool if you live on a farm...a ranch or if you really really well off. But as far as the rest of us. Not a pactical pet!

Snoopy 02/12/2003
Horses are beautiful animals. I've never owned one, but I used to live near an old farm where they still had a couple of horses. My sister and I would often go and bring them apples and other snacks. They were always gentle with us. I hear horses are a lot of work though.
ChunkyLover53 02/11/2003
I've never owned a horse, but they are beautiful and useful animals. They are fun to ride too.

BIGBABY 02/06/2003
Horses must be really fun- if you how to care them, and you have the space for them. They are best when on farms in groups.
netwiz 01/06/2003
I love horse, meat that is. Nothing tasted better than a bit of toast with some salted butter, and a thin slice of horsemeat. For living horses: I find them boring dumb farm animals that I would rate similarly to chicken (another delicious animal). A horse is as much a 'pet' as a cow is a 'pet'. Off to the glue factory with you mister Ed...
Jason1972 10/29/2002
It'sreally too bad that owning a horse requires a lot of space. They're such beautiful, serene animals and so much fun to watch when they run. I love the Apaloosa (spelling?)
Pygmyleaf 07/08/2001
to much work
lindapolin 07/05/2001
Two things to never own: a horse and a boat. Sinkholes for money.

Horses are extremely intelligent animals. I owned and use to show Arabians, best breed of horse, for 10 years. I was just a child and they were very gentle with me. I would go in the stall with my gelding and lay down against him, my mother was afraid he would hurt me but he never did. I rode saddle seat equitation, park horses, and native costumes.
CastleBee 06/01/2001
I know that the ancient dream of owning a horse still survives somewhere deep in the part of my brain where my 10-year-old self also still exists. I guess that's why I still kind of envy those people who have the finances and space to share their lives with one or more of these magnificent creatures. Regardless of the fact that this will never be my lot as an adult, I was lucky enough as a child thanks to friends, relatives and occasionally begging my mother to the point of distraction, to be able to ride and be around horses from time to time. Aside from the extreme fun and excitement of riding them, they are also very beautiful, interesting and quietly affectionate animals. There is also just something kind of indefinably awe inspiring about being around such a large, powerful animal.
