I had a couple of iguanas as pets. They're not very affectionate but they were pretty fun to hold & I used to love feeding them all kinds of fruits & veggies.

I had one of those when I was little and it got out of its cage. When I found it three days later, it was all dried out and nasty. Kinda like...lizard jerky or somethin.

lizards come from warmer climates which means they need a light in their cage all the time which can bring up a very large electric bill, also they are not affectionate and usually try to escape when out of their cage, but they are an interesting animal to watch.

I have lizards at home they can very clean and expressive, plus they don't make noise and aren't hyper-active like most dogs I've had.

Lizards are some of the coolest pets you can get! i have owned several in the last 6 years or so! i have had a green iguana, bearded dragons, leopard geckos, african fat-tailed geckos. All of which i enjoyed very much! i ended up having to move arround alot and so i just gave them all to my friend.

Lizards are ok as pets, but they need their cages cleaned out alot, require large tanks, and need a constant uv light source and heat temperature.

Reptiles in general make great pets, although they are not for everyone. If you are a begginer or someone with a young child, I suggest a leopard gecko. They are very low key and don't require UV lighting since their nocturnal. Another good pet is a Bearded Dragon, although be forwarned that these do get big and rquire at least a 40 gallon tank. I think by far my favorite reptiles are the Uromastyx. Do not be fooled however, these are not soley vegetarians. Mine all love a good waxworm or phoenix worm a few times a day. I also love Chamelions, although they are a pain in the but to take care of. They are definetly for only experienced reptile owners. For all those who want an Iguana, I would be a little wary. They have a well deserved reputation of being very grumpy and have a tendency to bite. A good alternative is a Water Dragon. They look almost identical to an iguana but do not get as big, are cheeper, and are an all around nicer lizard. The key thing to remeber is to do the research before buyning any reptile and not to go into buying a reptile half ass. They do need a complete set-up with a large enough tank to fit them as adults. Another thing to remeber is to NOT buy any animal, reptile or not, from Petco or Petsmart. They are a bunch of mindless idiots who 90% of the time will give you the wrong set up for a lizard just to get you to spend the extra money. I cannot tell you the amount of times people have walked into my store with leopard geckos saying that they don't do anything during the day. When I ask what set up they have for it, they tell me they are using UV lighting. Leopard geckos are nocturnal and do not require UV lighting. The light just makes them hide all day. Your best luck at finding a healthy reptile is a small pet store or a reptile specialty store. You will have much better luck at getting the right info than at Petco or Petsmart. Good Luck

I have a Bearded Dragon that I really like but lizards are not for everyone: they need time and care, such as adequate heating and lighting (UV lighting...etc.). I have seen too many people think they are going to buy a lizard for their kid and do it in a half @$$'ed way and that is a total disservice to the reptile. If you are going to do that, get a stuffed animal. Improper ligting...etc. can lead to needless pain, suffering and death. If you are committed, a reptile such as a Beardie can be good for you. I have handled various reptiles and the Beardies are the friendliest. They are not tail whippers...etc. The other reptile that I like is the Mali Uromastyx or the spiny tails. Those are cool, too. I do not personally find them to be very interactive. They are but only to a point. If you want real love and affection from a pet I recommend a dog or a cat.

I have a berded dragon , his name is Pillow he is sooo loving and VERY calm! He has never bit anyone! he loves to eat, he is Very playful!! I love him and lizards!!!! COOL AWSOME!! PETS!!!

Jan168301, do you even know anything at all about lizards? Why is it that people like you make so much crap up off the top of your heads? Lizards are awesome animals. First off, they ARE very active, and you would find that they have wonderful personalities if you if you would actually looked. If you actually opened your eyes, you would find that lizards are quite sociable once you get to know them (they 'll even come up to you from time to time asking to get rubbed, if they know you well enough). Lizards ARE companions, it's just that these jackasses buy a lizard, don't even spend a second of their time with him, keep him in a cage 10 times too small, and feed him total crap so he gets sick. And then, after anally raping the poor animal to the point where hes half-dead, they wonder why their iguana doesn't like them! Lizards are WILD animals, they haven't had generations of selective breeding. Of course they're going to have trouble getting used to living with a human. If people took the time to tame them and actually took care of them properly, if they actually tried a bit of TLC instead of shoving them in a box that barely fits them, they would find that lizards are actually great pets. Iguanas live 20-30 years in the wild, it's such a crying shame that 90% of the people who buy iguanas are morons and kill their animal before the age of 2. Its true, most iguanas in the pet trade die before they reach adulthood. I love lizards they are my favorite.I have 1 leopard gecko , hes a boy.He is about 8.5 inches long but still growing,i had him for about a year now.

Interesting and fun at times. However, lizards are not very personable and it is often hard to develop a relationship with one, which is why as a pet a lizard gets only three stars.

lizards are great. for the people who think they don't have feelings and aren't companions, you're stupid, and really don't know what you're talking about. so go bitch in some other pet section. lizards are awesome little animals. and for those people who think they don't do anything, just sit there, then what's the point in owning FISH? they do even less, you can't handle them, they certainly can't tell the different between owners (and YES lizards can. i can prove it), and fish are among the stupidest animals you can own. (intelligence wise). if you don't like lizards, then let the rest of us that do like lizards and other cool stuff like snakes, keep or animals, enjoy them, and stay out of our business. they're not a threat to you, so just leave them alone. and before you go contradicting ANYTHING i've said, just keep in mind i can back up everything said in this comment with proof, and if you choose not to accept it, then you're dumber then the lizard. i have, 1 spineytail iguana, 1 leopard gecko, a tokay gecko, and a bearded dragon. they all have different personalities, and i love them ALL more then i could ever love another human.

I have had many pets in my life and if you are looking for affection it's extremely dependent on every individual. I recently took up a job with animal care for lizards including whiptails, collareds, desert iguanas, geckos, and some other reptiles. I take care of a minimum of 5 of each species, and let me tell you each one has a different personality. One tank contains 5 desert iguanas that are all skittish but one. I'll stick my hand in the cage and he'll walk right up my arm and curl up on the inside of my elbow. It takes a lot to not bring him home with me. So yes, a lot of lizards aren't the most active in the world, but that's mainly because you are not on their time schedule. Nocturnal lizards probably think all humans do is sleep. But a lot of getting a pet like a lizard is the odds. They do have personality, they are clean, and really quite humorous (like the collared lizards!). But I would not recommend lizards to someone looking for something fuzzy wuzzy. The personality of the owner is incredibly important too!

Bearded Dragons are very good pets. They are playful and nice. They are not the kind that start biting you when u first get it. The first thing my bearded dragon did the first time I was holding him was he was crawling up my arm and playin with me. The only small bad thing about them is that u have to have a good cover for your cage or else that crickits that it eats will escape. They dont stink or anything else bad. I love lizards they rock!!!!

I THINK LIZARDS ARE A NEAT LITTLE PET.IT DOES COST TO TAKE CARE OF THEM BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO GET THESE SERTAN KIND OF LIGHT BULBS FOR THEM TO SURVIVE,AND A LOT OF TIMES THEY GET REAL WEAK AND START TO SHRIBBLE UP,BUT I STILL LIKE THEM,I MEAN THEY CAN MAKE A FUN AND INTERESTING PET,BECAUSE I HAD SOME ANOLE LIZARDS AND THEY WERE FUN AND SOMETIMES YOU HAD TO MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE RIGHT KIND OF LIGHT BULB FOR THE NIGHT AND DAY BULBS.

Lizards are awesome. I have owned 2 Iguanas. They might be cheap to buy but are expensive to care for between food, heating and light equipment and the space to accomidate them as they grow. All lizards are extremely beautiful. And if can create quite a bond with them just like any other pet.

I marked a three on here, because lizards are only good for certain people. I own a Leopard Gecko. These are very easy lizards to keep, but still require lots of equipment. They are very personable, too, and can become attached to people and learn to trust them. PLEASE, research before buying ANY pet!

Iguanas make decent pets because you can feed them just your salad vegetables, such as lettuce, and they are not noisy. however, you have to wash your hands after you handle them because they carry disease-causing bacteria and they often tend to slip out of their cages and run off.

Why do people make those pets? They are ugly and all they do is lie there under the lamp. They hardly even move ... they're just there. They suck!

There are some really beautiful lizards but for the most part, you can't train them, they're not affectionate nor can you show admiration to one because of their skidishness, but they are important since they eat all kinds of bugs.

Lizards can be funny, cute things and interesting to watch (chamelions), but I seriously would rather see them at a zoo or in their natural habitat than stuck in a cage or glass box in my room. They're cool animals. It's not like you can play or cuddle with a lizard.

A friend of mine recently got two beautiful Collared Lizards - a male and a female - and I have to admit that they are pretty damn cool. First of all, they are striking looking. They are vividly colored and have this prehistoric glare to them that makes it look that they have seen everything there is to see. Contrary to the comments of other posters on this list, these lizards are also very active. They run, they are fearless leapers, and they constantly seem to be in search of the highest possible lookout point. While I would have to agree with Johnny Roulette's assessment that they will "never love, like, or mind you," depending on what you are looking for, a lizard seems to be a pretty great pet.

Let's see...no messy kitty litter, no poop to scoop in the yard, no hairballs to clean up, for that matter, no hair period, no barking or meowing.... Good points? See above and, personality plus, clean, did I mention personality? Our large lizards are trained to use a litter box with water (and they say reptiles can't think). Some are affectionate, some aren't. For those who posted negative responses, I feel for you. What a pity. Sue2 What can you say?

I never thought I'd own them, but I have two collared lizards. They're beautiful. They're active; they respond to my voice. They don't have teeth; their claws are very tiny; they're pretty clean (cleaner than dogs). They are: collared lizards. And other than geckos, chameleons, and anoles, they're the only lizards I'd ever own.

Okay.....I am a reptile owner and soon to be breeder. I own plenty of geckos and a collared lizard, plus some toads:) Lizards are AWESOME! Most of the people here that are posting negative comments are most likely the same people that believe snakes are slimy. They say lizards just sit there and don't move or all they do is shed or they will never love, like, or mind us. WRONG! Many lizards have a personality of their own such as bearded dragons and collared lizards. Collared lizards are hilarious to watch when you put a moth in their cage cuz they jump through the air and catch them. With frequent handling many will became quite tame and will learn to mind us. Most of my lizards know that they are supposed to stay on my bed when they come out and they know that they will get put back in their cage if they don't stay where they are supposed to. My tokay gecko which is considered the pit-bull of all geckos is extremely tame and although tokays are known to be very nervous and fast he will stay where he should and rarely runs from me. My Leopard Geckos like to follow me around wherever I go. One of my 3 leo geckos will even climb onto my shirt if she sees me walking by just so she can come with me. The reason some lizards don't move when you see them is because many are nocturnal and that means they obviously aren't gonna be moving around because they are trying to sleep so they can run around at night like they are used to doing. If you looked at those "statue like" lizards at night then if they are healthy they will be very active. It's just like watching a dog at 3 in the morning after a day of running around. It's probably gonna be tired and trying to sleep.

I now own 4 lizards.. two Anoles.. green and brown.. And also two Collards.. I enjoy them a great deal.. the Collards are my favorite.. I must say.. they are very comical and entertaining, my children and I clear the hall, close all the doors, and have lizard races, with the Collards of course.. they are so cool. THe boys spend much of the day with a Collard on them, in their hair, in their shirt.. or just holding and
