Not a pet for a child under 8. Too fussy, too fragile. And no electrical wire is safe from them, they'll chew the insulation off and chew through them. Which is a damn embarrassing thing to explain to your cable supplier.
By far the best thing about them, however, is that when you get sick and tired of them, you can eat them.

I've known several people who've had rabbits as pets and they've loved them. But I don't think I'd want one.

I had rabbits as a kid. The best I can say is that they are okay. It's a one way relationship. You feed them, clean the cage, give them water, a place to live and they ignore you, run from you or worse, scratch the heck out of you if you make the wrong move.

Rabbits make excellent pets, if you treat them right. They are fairly easy and inexpensive to care for, too.

Pretty funny little things. my sister has some and they are so cute! i love them!

We had a Dutch Drawf who was sweet as could be. Played very well with our little Yorkie too. We taught him some tricks (very difficult to do) ~ but as for the expense, we live near farms, so we got hay for bedding and alfafa to munch on. He was great ~ but truthfully, I wouldn't own another one.

Having had rabbits for pets, I would to say, they make pretty decent pets. However, the cage needs cleaning alot, can attack if you don't handle them carefully, and don't make very great pets, if you own an aprtment.

Rabbits are sweet, adorable creatures, but don't let them fool you--they are a LOT of hard work to maintain! No pet should EVER be an impulse buy at the store, but this holds true especially for rabbits. The require a LOT of food, bedding, and a lot of exercise; if you can't let the rabbit out for a hop every day, I don't suggest this as a pet. Rabbits need to roam--which means, if Thumper's going to be an indoor pet, it might be good to rabbit-proof a room (i.e. get wires out of the way). They defecate A LOT, but they're in pellet form and are pretty easy to clean up, and not too smelly. It's the urine that'll be smelly! A rabbit's diet must be varied, but they can't eat just any vegetable--online research or just reading up before buying the rabbit would be a good idea. Other than that, rabbits are sweet creatures, can be litter-trained, and are wonderfully cute--just as long as you know what you're getting into! (Oh, and as far as being playful--they like playing with toys, at least mine does, and he loves to run and play ALL the time; this may be a personality trait which varies between individual rabbits, but not all rabbits are dull.) UPDATE: . . . . according to "Yahoo! Shopping", apparently they've got a completely different idea of what a "rabbit" is than I do!

Rabbits are very cuddly and cute, but not the actice types. If you are looking for a pet that you can play with then this is not the pet for you. If you are looking for a pet that is fun to look at and is adorable at the same time, then this would be a great pet for you. They are cute, soft, cuddly, quiet, usually quite slow, and very even-tempered.

I think that rabbits make great pets if taken care of properly. A rabbit should be taken care of in a similar way to a house cat, except they do have a little more minuses than a cat. Rabbits can be litter box trained, I've done it, but it does take a lot of work. The things to worry about with a rabbit is that they do tend to chew on electrical wires, so when you aren't home, it is a good idea to keep them in a play pen or large cage. Another bad thing about rabbits is that they have extremely strong back feet and have been known to kick back to hard and to actually break their little back. ( I actually had one customer kill TWO bunnies this way, and needless to say we are not selling bunnies any more, although I still think they are a cool pet). I think the most depressing thing that I have found about bunnies is that they are a cheep disposable pet. There are a lot of stupid people in this world who actually release their pet rabbits thinking that they will be ok in the wild. These are not wild rabbits, they are pets and we must treat them as such. The reason I rated them a three is that there are some issues as I mentioned in my review that may not make a bunny the best pet. However, with the propper TLC a rabbit can make a great addition to any family and they will be a pleasure to own.

Rabbits need to be cared for correctly, but if you do, they make great pets! If properly cared for, your rabbit will be trim, tame, and playful. I took the time to litter train my two mini-lops and they're great! check out www.rabbits.com for an awesome forum on how to care for them. Rabbits are somewhat exotic and require more specialized care, and rabbits.com is filled with rabbit breeders/enthusiasts who seem able to answer any rabbit question under the sun.

Rabbit lovers aren't going to like this, but I've never found this animal to be that cute or pleasant looking. I've always had this odd thing that behind that cute face is really vicious animal.
scarletfeather 02/27/2004
Cute and cuddly, and I've always wanted one. Perhaps my sense of humor is not highly evolved, but the idea of feeding a poor frightened bunny to a vicious snake does not amuse me.

I THINK RABBITS ARE CUTE AND CUDDLY.THEY DO MAKE GOOD PETS,BUT THEY CAN BE MESSY.ALOT OF TIMES WHEN ITS TIME FOR YOUR RABBIT TO SHED ITS FUR AND YOU GO AND HOLD IT THE FUR GETS ALL OVER YOU.THATS WHY ITS BEST TO BRUSH YOUR RABBIT DURING THIS TIME,THAT WAY NOT AS MUCH FUR WILL GET ALL OVER YOU.I STILL LIKE RABBITS THEY ARE FUN AND VERY HARMLESS ANIMALS''.

Bunnies are cute. We're getting one for my niece for her 4th birthday, which is coming up very shortly. I also get quite a few rabbits in my yard. I'm always leaving carrots and stuff out for them.

I had 2 albino rabbits. They are cute as hell but man do they poop alot and chew on everything they can. But they are very cuddly.

I would give rabbits a 5 b/c they are the cutest little things and so soft and cute and cuddly ... I've had three rabbits; Nelly, Mips, and Chico. Nelly was never a problem b/c I kept it outside but Mips and Chico made the house stink so bad, I got headaches from it. They also left their little balls of poop all over and Chico chose to make my bed it's toilet!!! They are also very destructive ... you have to rabbit proof the whole house and you gotta be careful w/what you leave on the floor b/c they chew on laces, shoes, cables, plugs, socks, and whatever else they can get their teeth on. I wouldn't recommend a rabbit as a pet b/c they end up at the animal shelter ... I swear, no matter how cute and cuddly they are, they make you crazy and give you the nightmare of your life!

Rabbits are cute. I love the way they hop around and the way they sniff and eat food.

A classic pet for a little girl (3-10 years old) very soft and fluffy, funto feed and fun to watch that pivoting nose when it breathes.

I've never owned one, but I know people who have and I think they're pretty cute and not too hard to take care of.

Of course, there's bound to be bias where pets are concerned, but i've been absolutely delighted with the 2 rabbits i've had.The first,Misty,a grey male(we were incorrectly informed of gender)Netherlands dwarf was cute, inquisitive, intelligent, and quite mischievous. He liked going behind awkward kitchen fixtures, occasionally nibbled a table leg or 2,till taught to desist, and would manage to sneak into the neighbours' garden and start eating their flowers, though only a very occasional aberration. When happy,in the good weather,he would shoot the length of the garden and leap into the house. He was extremely affectionate, loved to be stroked, lying down in front of the fire, was quite easily house-trained and became easier to control generally. He spent some time in the hutch, but we'd let him out as much as possible,to roam the garage and garden. My wife and i were heart-broken when he died aged 7 1/2 which i understand is average. Our current bunny,Bronwen, another male(we were misinformed again),this time sandy-coloured lop-eared dwarf is also terribly cute and fluffy. He's much calmer and quieter, extremely good-natured,also likes attention,is house-trained (95%,not quite perfect),fastidiously clean, and lives alternately in the garage and the house, depending partly on the weather. We have to keep an eye open for buzzards here in the country, when he's in the garden;there are a couple which nest not far away. So i'd certainly recommend rabbits as (medium-maintenance) pets, but they shouldn't be ignored and kept in a hutch all day. They have a lot to offer, and a surprising amount of (individual)personality to express.

Rabbits aren't bad pets to have. They're cute and easy to look after, though they get a bit boring after a while. They're nice pets if they're tame enough, but if they're not so tame and they're scared to go near you then they're just no fun. They're good pets for children if you don't have much space in the backyard (but you need some space) and you don't want to get a dog or a cat or something like that. For someone who's older and has a busy life, rabbits aren't really all that good because they're pretty high maintenance in terms of having to always feed them and clean up after them and make sure they have water, etc.

I own a rabbit, J.C. He's been an absolutely great pet. He is housed trained and is a neverending amusement to my family.
luvarabhorses 01/13/2001
I'va had great rabbits (Tinker, a Netherland Dwarf who was 1978 MD State Fair Grand Champion Rabbbit) who had tons of personality and just mediocre ones who were boring. My last rabbit- Bonnie Bunny was a lop who was house trained but still managed to chew electric cords. Bonnie tunneled out of a summer pen and is probably in bunny heaven.

Man, floopy-earred rabbits are really cool looking. I've had two rabbits named Cujo. The first might still be alive...I don't know...that was back in '87. How long do they usually live? The second Cujo was chased by our dog, Elvis, until his little heart exploded. You have got to be careful not to scare the hell out of them. Their hearts will stop on a dime! The big domestic ones will eventually warm up to you and eventually they will sort of hang out with you. I like them, but it makes me feel kind of weird seeing such unbridled fear in their eyes on a regular basis. A wild rabbit hung out outside my apartment porch everyday at dawn and dusk(that's when they feed) for most of the fall. He was strange...he never ran from my dog. He used to let me get within about six inches of him. We'd just kind of sit there lookin' at each other for a while. He finally got comfortable enough to eat with me sitting beside him. I named him Javier. I haven't seen Javy in a while...maybe it's too cold now...or maybe something frightened him. My dog had even stopped trying to pounce on him.

I have two unpleasant images of rabbits which taint my opinion of rabbits as pets. My first experience with a rabbit was with a friend of mine growing up who had a pet rabbit that was so fat it couldn't even move. Of course this made it impossible to "play" with it at all - all you could do was feed the damn thing. My other negative impression of rabbits as pets stems from the movie Fatal Attraction - in which of course, the pet rabbit ended up being boiled alive. My guess is that if Michael Douglas' kid had had a pet doberman instead of a rabbit, it would not have ended up on the stove.
