Pretty, but I don't think I'd like seeing one eat anything living. Additionally it's pretty much their nature to bite (I know this from experience, a friend had a constrictor for a while and it bit me all the time).

They're really not affectionate being reptiles & all. I don't think that they should be pets if they eat live prey 'cause It's cruel to me.
They are beautiful creatures, though.

My complaint for these is they don't do very much, and require frozen animals for meals. Other than that, they're friendlier than their reputation, and don't require much of your time to maintain. I certainly wouldn't mind having one but probably won't go out of my way to get one.

I love snakes and i always have. They are very exotic! A lot of people question people that have venomous snakes and the reason for that it because they are studying them. A majority of places you have to have a license to own venomous snakes. I personally wouldn't own a big snake like a boa python but some snakes are enjoyable. I own two bearded dragons and they are like dogs, they crave human attention and when they get to know you they look forward to seeing you come home, they are the dogs of the reptile world. and for those of you that think all snakes are dangerous my friend has had her snake for 5 years and she has never gotten bit. The thing with a lot of animals is that you never know if anything is wrong with them if they are feeling sick or sore so if you invade their space when they feel vunerable then yes they will defend themselves.

Snakes are awesome creatures. They do not attack, tehy are great pets if you have kids. I a m mind boggled by the morons who think all snakes are venemous and bloodthrisrty killers who watn to strangle you. Dogs are more dangerous. People nowadays just believe everything they see on T.V. Mouse cute fuzzy animal- Good Snake ugly scaly animal- Ugly. People are so stupid.

Why have a snake for a pet? They can attack, and not great pets, if you have kids.

I am mind boggled by people who have large snakes or venomous snakes, for pets.

It's like waiting for an accident to happen.

I can understand that some people are afraid of snakes... But many of you are just really ignorant about them. -Snakes DO have backbones. -Most pet snakes that get used to being handled aren't "prone to attack their owners" more than other pets, as long as you act responsibly and respect their nature. Getting bitten while feeding something to the snake isn't really the snake's fault. They go by the smell, and if you're holding a mouse or rat they have no way of knowing that your hand isn't part of it. That's why one should use tongs or something if you want to dangle the mouse in front of the snake. -Most aren't venomous. Very very few people keep venomous snakes as pets. Most pet snakes are harmless. If you do get bitten, just wash it off and treat it like any wound. I would rather be bitten by a (non-venomous)snake than by a large dog. -That "animals are afraid of us" stuff isn't "crap". They are afraid of us if they feel like we are posing a threat to them. Biting is only in self-defense(unless you smell like a mouse), they don't just decide to be mean for no reason(there would be no benefit to them.. they know you're too big to eat). And most kinds of snake will try to get away before they will resort to trying to bite you(with a few exceptions, such as cottonmouths). When i first got my snake it was shy and it would try to get away from me all the time when i tried to hold it(and babies are more nervous than adults), but even then it never bit me. I have an amelanistic Corn Snake. He's easy to keep, beautiful, and interesting. Even when i'm just watching him move around in his tank, he has some behaviors that are fun to watch. He likes to climb, and sometimes takes a swim in his water bowl. Even my mom, who says she hates snakes, thinks he's cute. When she was watching him eat today she kept saying "aww.. isn't that yummmy?" in a baby voice to him. lol. I'd also love to get more snakes in the future. I know i want a Colombian Boa Constrictor, they're so pretty.

I like watchin' snakes on animal documentaries but I'd never ever would want a pet snake. They're freakin' scary and they're prone to attack their owners.

I was watchin' a show and this guy was feedin his snake a rat and the snake bit him. He ended up losing a finger, no thanks.

Snakes make poor pets. I would wonder why anyone has a snake for a pet. The venomous ones are dangerous no matter how long you have them or feed them.

Snakes are definetly a interesting pet. For all those that spouted off about how much they hate snakes really haven't taken the time to look at one. They are amazing creatures. The key to understanding them is in the different types of snakes available to the public. Kingsnakes, milksnakes, and rosy boas are great pets for kids. They are very easy to hold and still move around enough to keep kids entertained. They also only grow to be around 3-4 feet (which is relatively small for a snake). But I think the biggest plus to owning a snake is that you don't need UV lighting. All snakes need is heat and they'll be happy. The reason I rated snakes a four is because of the feeding situation. Snakes require rodents....theres no getting around it. If you can get your snake to eat frozen thats great, but a lot can't resist live mice and rats. (For those of you who think this is cruel, ever seen a mouse or rat eat its baby's...believe me, its disgusting and I therefore have no qualms about feeding them to my snake). Hope this helps, and for all of you ignorant people who hate snakes...go down to your local pet store and hold a rosy boa, you'll be glad you did :)

I hate snakes! All snakes! They're gross, repulsive and disgusting! I am also, however, a die-hard believer in animal rights and so I do believe they too have their place in nature and I would never dream of harming one. I don't mind them if they're out in the jungle somewhere but you couldn't pay me enough to keep one as a pet in my house! They are just so nasty! They also remind me of the devil - I always think they're kind of like the devil in animal form, although that's probably ridiculous. Then again, just read Genesis! I also believe people have no business at all keeping animals for pets which they really can't handle and then dumping them out in the wild somewhere. It ruins the ecosystem - just look at the problems they're having in Florida now with this. It isn't fair to the rest of the environment and much as I don't care for them, it isn't fair to the snakes either.

Do you know why these things are exotic pets? It's because they are venomous, dangerous creatures that want to bit you! Don't give me that animals are afraid of us crap! I see it on t.v. all the time dudes. On the t.v. show Maximum Exposure, a dude was feeding his snake a rat and the snake didn't eat the rat, the snake bit the dude's hand! That's not the way I roll dudes, that's not the way I roll.

I have a corn snake, Zippy, and she doesn't greet me at the door like my dog does, and she doesn't make me laugh like my hamster does, but she makes me smile when she climbs in her cage. When I come into the room I like the way she comes out of her hiding spot. And when its a warm night I take her for a ride on my bike. It's all how you look at it. Cute and cuddly may be for you. Silky smooth may not. Whatever it is, don't think your comment is right whether it's pro snake or not.

Snakes are AWESOME! I am 12 and I was a little creeped out in the begining but not now. I LOVE My baby Corn Snake, Curious, and for those who say they don't move, you need help. Curious moves ALL over and is so fun 2 watch. I have friends who come over and Curious will stare at them if they hit me, or he feels like they are offending me and he'll shake his tail at them and get all big. It's so cute. I love Curious. He has such a unique personality. And he loves crawling around on my back and head and shirt. he is only about 6 months old and is about 12 or 13 inches long. I love him so much!!

it's not a pet if you want something cuddly. this is true. I am a proud owner of a 5 month old ball python. He is great with all my roommates. They can take him out of his cage when ever they want-whether i'm here or not. He is completely tolerant of being passed around coiled around people's necks or arms. He's adorable when he investigates different areas of the apartment, and is quite the nice, simple pet. They have more personality that one would think. My friend has a ball python that has not been handled enough and is not nearly as personable. But Skittles, my snake, loves being handled and the attention he gets.[and i'm not home much- VERY low upkeep]

Snakes are awsome, I dont see why some of you have to wonder why people would want one. They are fun to have, and learn more about. I know that they are not for some people, so if they are not for you, then fine, stay away from them, but learn more about them before you start bashing them.... Also, saying that you have to buy a constant stream of live animals is also false, because you can buy a bunch of them at a time by getting frozen ones... which can last you months, or more depending on how many you buy... this doesn't cost very much either

Snakes are VERY misunderstood i own 9 of them and they are all relitivly large owning an animal such as a boa constrictor or python teaches patence and understandingi have 8 diffrent speices of python and one 9 foot red tail boa. some of the speices i own have been known to be aggressive but i have NEVER BEEN BITTEN. All they require is respect, and considering they were around with the dinosaurs, i beleive they have earned it.

I have A hatchling amber corn snake i have had him for about 3 weeks and hes the coolest thing ever! hes affectionate....unless hes hungary than he can get nippy but he is so small you cant even feel the teeth it is fun to watch him eat and you dont need to buy live food i get frozen pinkie mice and thaw then out and feed it to him and he likes it just fine so if you considering getting a snake i say go for it but make sure you get the one that is right for you (size, aggression and money wise)
