I think personally Queer as Folk is a good show but since i'm a straight female I watch it sometimes to see what the gay people have to go thrugh and this show tells that all gays want is sex and I don't know if gay life is like that isn't there more to it I mean we are all people and we can't help who we fall in love with or waht sex turns us on the most but I've always been taught that being gay is bad cause god is against it but who am I to judge on what people do only god can do that and judge of what is right and what is wrong cause every1 sins in some way no sin is greater then the other. But this show is fun to watch but is that all gay life is is sex????

I'm a straight female, early 40's- and QAF has become my favourite show by far. I wish it was on every day and I'm glad a second season has just begun. QAF has it all - incredible writing, incredible acting with characters who are developing and changing yet true to themselves. Gale Harold as Brian is AMAZING! I would not be so addicted to the show without him - or even want to watch it, really. It's not just that he is incredible looking and so hot, but that he says so much with just his eyes. He is even more mesmerizing than Patrick Swayze. I really enjoy the chemistry and storyline between Brian and Justin and hope this lasts and develops. I absolutely love the hot, sexy scenes on the show -especially between Brian and Justin - but I definitely agree with those who say that children should not have access to this show at all. This is for adults. I live in Canada, and here Showtime puts it on at 10pm at the earliest - which I don't think is a problem, but 11 may be better. On the plus side, a t.v. show that both gays and straights like is a good thing because it stresses the similarities in people rather than the differences. Moreover, I hope that less liberal-minded people will realize that being different is okay and not to judge others in the name of religion, but instead love our neighbors as the Bible truly says - be they straight or gay. God is the only one qualified to judge so let's let him do that. This is why it is good that there are anti-gay characters in the show too. Being conservative is fine, but adding hatred to that is not. People are people - and all of us are equal. And QAF shows that except for mere sexual preference, people are people. Some of us are methodical and predictable and more conservative like Ted, while others of us are more passionate, independent and creative like Brian. And many more are somewhere in the middle like Michael and Emmett. And if you're young like Justin, gay or straight you're trying to figure out who you really are yet.

Here's another show that portrays hatred toward another group, sex too realistically and is just plain depressing. Excuse me while I turn back to good UNrealistic comedy on TV Land or the great peaceful universe of Star Trek!

This is a fantastic show! Brilliantly written and exceptionally portrayed by a very talented cast! I've enjoyed every episode and look forward anxiously for season two!! When will this be released on DVD?!

I can only give the show 4 stars as we rarely see Lindsey and Melanie!!

Another attempt to dumb down the morals of society.
olsaintnic 06/29/2001
It's not that I'm anti-gay, it's just shows like sex in the city and this one that mainly talk about sex is pathetic. If I wanted to watch sex there always porn. At lest that's staight forward and not boring. I think it might be even insulting to gay people to always portray them as disco bar people. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe the show is an accurate portrayal, but that what I think of the show.

I"m beginning to really love this show, and have changed the rating.....nice development of the last few weeks.... *****original comments***** It's a good show, but it is by no means, perfect. Top 20 yes, no #1, no. JMHO.

I am a bi-sexual female and i love the show. It showes how the gay community lives from day to day. It also helps the others outside of the gay and bi community understand some of the problems tht we all share in life.

WOW!!!!! I've been waiting too see an episode of "Queer as Folk" since I heard it was first being aired. I finally got to see it tonight with a girlfriend of mine. We where both in awe. This show is AWESOME!! I can't wait to see it next week. Too bad I've missed so many episodes. This show reminds me alot of myself. When living in Toronto, I did the circuit parties and the drugs that went with it. The relationship stories between some of the characters really touched home. It's been 6 months since I removed my self from this atmosphere - and in being honest with myself and anyone else who reads this and cares...I do miss it!! I don't miss the drugs, but I do miss the dancing, the music, the beautiful men. But I can dance anywhere. I can find my music anywhere, and well for the beautiful men, well..speaking for the ones I've met...they are friendly and as genuine as drugs will allow them to be, but meet the one the street the next day and they cannont even remember who you are. BRAVO, for this show, for having the balls to portray some aspects of gay life. And as member "Scotty" stated on Dec.1 in the comment section "this life is does not describe everyone who is gay". I simply cannot say enough as too how much I enjoyed this show.... My hats off to the producers, the actors and the many talents it took to pull this off. Denver desertwarrior@qwest.net

Its a great show. It is the show that most resembles reality. I wish everybody could have the chance to see it.
pchadd 04/21/2001
I LOVE the show as does my partner. It is a very good start in portraying gays and lesbians in "real life". I have been out and gay since I was 12 - and professionally I was in the Army Reserves for 13 years, I was a cop in Philadelphia and now I am a web developer. I can relate to the club-going crowd on QAF and I can very much relate to both Brian and Justin. My partner came out later and has more in common with Dr. Dave, but the point is that we are all around, we are just regular people with regular issues and between our experiences and those of our friends - straight and gay - we can all find elements and situations to relate to in the show. Great cast, great writing and hopefually a long and successful future. Support the show and support showtime and the sponsors who help put quallity shows about our lives on the air. Showtime is also producing the next "Tales of the City" installment. We've come a long way baby!!
davidg10 04/21/2001
In a word, FANTASTIC! I admit, even being a gay man, I watched the first episode in total shock. Upon thinking about it afterwords, I realized what I'd seen wasn't any worse than Showtime's usual "Tits After Ten" fare. I think it does a great job of showing *ALL* of the aspects of the gay lifestyle, both objectively and responsibly. In one way or another, the experiences of all of the characters have brought back memories and feelings I've had in my lifetime that I had long since forgotten about. All of us, gay or straight, have had people like these in our lives at some point, and I think everyone can relate to them in some way, regardless of their sexuality. I have laughed, cried, and cheered along with them every week, and will continue to do so for as long as its on the air. Thanks Showtime!

I am 27 year-old lesbian with a wife and two beautiful children. My wife and I are happy to see that America is hopefully becoming a more diverse, knowledgeable, and respectful nation. We have watched queer as folk from day one. Though we as individuals may not agree on every scene and how it depicts the gay community, it is a new beginning. As I read prior comments, I noticed that many of them were written by heterosexual individuals. Bravo! If queer as folk can at least be a sounding board for the nation, then maybe everyone can come together instead of dividing. The gay community isn't out in the world trying to be above everyone else, or receive any special priviledges. We are all created equal. Thank you queer as folk for showing America that everyone is different, yet everyone needs the same thing---Respect,Love,Honesty,Integrity,Friendship,Hope, & Dreams

I have never seen this show so some may say I have no right to rate this subject. The fact is God has already rated the show so I do not have to. This life style is specifically pointed out as a sin and hated by God. Let me make the distinguishing remark; God hates the sin not the person. To have watched the show once or for even a few minutes would have said it generated some level of curiosity. Since the Bible has stated its status, I have no further need to investigate the show’s entertainment value. Furthermore, if the pay TV channels are reading and if they care, I will not subscribe to your services because you continue to push the envelope of immorality and I refuse to subject my family to your programs. I am sure my buck 2.98 will be missed.

Elizabeth from elkton, MD I'm a 41 year old kinda straight female. I think this show rocks, it has everything, fun, emotion, impact, feeling, intensity, current issues, great acting, open mind, ect. viewing. I love this show. Its the greatest. It relates to the gay in every single one of us. It also can help people who stereo type others. Not only can it help people deal with there own differents, It could maybe help those who stereo type otheres. Keep up the great work you'll always have a fan here.
agemini 04/15/2001
this show is absolutely fabulous! there are 3 of us in our household, all lesbians and we love it!!! it's actually not one of those down-played movies or shows that doesn't give the real sense of the gay community. the bar scene, the drugs, the events that take place in our community are real and queer as folk does a damn good job of portraying our lives. at the same time, it's showing that we are people too. we love, we live, we work, we're professionals, we have children, we have families that are either supporting or not supporting us for who we are. this show is just absolutely amazing. all of us can relate with the characters and each of them reminds us of people who are in our lives! way to go! keep up the good work!!!!!!

I AM A STRAIGHT FEMALE 33 WHO LOVES TO WATCH QUEER AS FOLK I REALLY LIKE TO WATCH IT CAUSE I THINK BRIAN ON THE SHOW IS SO CUTE.
Little John 04/11/2001
Queer as folk is an unrealistic view of Gay life in 2001. First of all, not all Gay men look and act like the characters on this overrated piece of garbage. Secondly they only deal with the "beautiful People" as it seems, and this is distorting. Where is safe sex in this show> Is there no AIDS on Queer as Folk, are these over made pretty boys exempt from reality??
oneforall 04/11/2001
The show is probably my favorate show. I love everyone of the characters. Although I am straight, I have always treasured my relationships with gay men. I would give anything to meet them all.

THIS SHOW IS GREAT!!! I NEVER MISS IT!
callmetootie 04/09/2001
This is a disgusting Tv series that shouldn't have been though up, and I think that the network should be sued for.
ShepHuntley 04/09/2001
The show is dead-on in depicting a very large segment of the gay population. It is concentrating on a certain age group, but never fails to make its ageist points. It seems to be headed in the direction of showing discrimination within the community which is sorely needed. I hope it will also expose the hypocrisy of the Gay Republicans (since all the ones I know watch it)and how their self-centered approach to life endangers the very hard-won freedoms that allow us to have a show such as this on television. I'd also like to see an elderly gay activist admonish the younger characters for not being aware of what it USED to be like in the 50s, etc.and how much blook is under the bridge for us to be where we are today. Thanks, Russell Davies.

For all those who DON'T feel this was an adequate or politically correct portrayal of gay life, then come out of your shells! I will admit that there is no glamour or beauty in the lifestyle but it's done. It's common and it's status quo. The wonderful thing about Queer as Folk (and for all those eager watchers - Do yourself a favor and watch the Britsh version. The American doesn't even compare) Again though the wonderful thing about this series is that it doesn't glamorize the lifestyle. It DESCRIBES it. The main chracters let you know that their life is somewhat monatanous and predictable. But they are there and they are doing it. Gay men and women world wide should be able to find something in this series they can relate with. This was an excellent outlook on a life that many people before watching would never have even known existed...

Very entertaining, though a bit remedial. I guess this is good in the respect that it helps educate the straight world. Pittsburgh seems more exciting than looking out my window here in Greenwich Village.

I have never been so addicted to a TV show. I am a 52 year old gay male and my 44 year old partner of 24 years and I watch the show 3 times each week! I am amused by the early comments comparing the show unfavorably to the UK version. Having seen both, I think the US version has already surpassed the British one. Someone commented that the Nathan (Justin) character was stonger and the actor better than the American version. That comment was posted after the first 2 episodes. Justin has developed way beyond the Nathan character. Of course there were only 8 episodes of the UK version and 1 wrap-up special. The American writers have taken this show in a whole new and better direction. Gale Harold is the most amazing actor. His hand movements, facial expressions and eyes bring so much to the complex role of Brian. Randy Harrison is marvelous. This kid is barely out of theater school and he brings so many layers to his portrayal of Justin. His and Gale's chemistry in their scenes together is fantatstic. The show never fails to amaze me.

Obviously, I'm a Lesbian and I must say that I am a little disappointed in the show. I am a huge fan of the show never miss and episode and never will, but what in the hell are you all thinking? Seriously, I mean the story line revolves around gay and lesbians yet I am still waiting to see some truth. All the characters do are sllep with everyone I mean eveyone and the only Lesbian couple you have used a GAY man to get pregnant. Come on, then one of them cheats. I just wish that once I could turn on the television and watch a Lesbian couple that is commited to only each other. But, something makes me waiting for more so I will continue to watch. Just a couple things need to be changed, Brian needs to stop screwing everyone before the Producers run out of people to cast. And give Justin a clue and I mean sooooon!!!!!

I read about the show in the Advocate and saw it for the first time at a gay bar in Alexandria,Virginia. I hear a lot of comments from my friends that are both good and bad. I found the show honest, funny, and alot like my younger days. Anyone in the gay world who sees Brian as a whore should be honest with themselves. We are all whores when we first discover our sexuallity. My friends hate him but I like him. I think that his relationship with Michael is touching. He cares about him and what a lot see as mean is just a friend looking out for his friend. Of course Justin is the one I would like to have a relationship with because he reminds me of Matt Damon. He is certainally not innocent and I enjoy the mixed up feelings he has about Brian. I don't think that he loves Brian the person, I think that he loves the life style that he perceives Brian has. I didn't like the doctor until I found he was played by Chris Potter. Let's face it the doctor is a pompous bore who thinks his poop doesn't stink and everyone should bow before him. Thank God Brian keeps him in line. I think he is a bigger rat than Brian's character. At least Brian is honest. Every character is someone I know or have known. But all in all I lover the show and say keep up the good work.We must also remember it is only a tv show that is surpose to entertain not be the gospel according to St. Matthew

I love this show. A lot of it is so real life, it is unbelievable. I have watched this show from the start, and haven't missed an episode yet. (Knock on wood). Everyone needs to keep up the EXCELLENT work with this show. It needs to stay on the air forever because I would just be heart broken without it!!

I am a straight male. I checked it out because I liked the other HBO cable shows like the Sopranos and Arliss. The gay kissing was hard to get used to and I did not know how much I liked the show until it wasnt on for a few weeks. Now I am hooked. It is truly different. Hats off to the writer, cast and Showtime.
SueC 03/28/2001
I think the show is great! It is one of my favorites on TV. Are the guys really gay? They are so believable!
DamnNearPerfec t 03/28/2001
Queer as Folk is sexy, and groundbreaking. With so many heterosexual shows on TV, here is one that attributes homosexuality superbly. The characters are well developed and equally unique giving us, the audience several different views of the "gay life". It is my favorite show on TV(cable showtime).
JPatrick 03/27/2001
After watching a couple taped episodes, we ordered Showtime and are addicted. We love the show and the characters. One question I have is why are there such big jumps? One week Michael and David are doing well. Michael is dancing for David after being told he could go to the clubs if he wants - then the following week, they are broken up. Did I miss something? Patrick

My lesbian partner and I applaud the creators of this wonderful show. We look forward to watching it each week. THe cast is excellent and plots are true to a point. We look forward to seeing Lindsay and Melanie develop. Most of our closest friends are gay men and we adore them, probably wouldn't know what to do without them in our lives.
JRB68 03/27/2001
I have lived this life. I have known friends like the characters. Although I have since grown up and realized there is more to life the a party every weekend and being high on X. This film makes me relive my early twenties. Great Jobs and about time someone makes a movie about Gay men and their real lives growing up.

addicting! brave fresh and gripping! love it! I am a 43 yr old married mom and i wouldnt miss a minute! cant remember when i enjoyed tv so much!
LoveGayMen 03/25/2001
This is a great show! I am a 42 year old female that loves to see gay men. This concept is still in the closet that women like to see men getting it on. Its accepted in American culture for straight men to be turned on by Lesbian scenes (i.e. Howard Stern show, Penthouse, etc.) but not the opposite. I can't wait for Sunday night to watch the show. The more sex scenes the better! Right on to Showtime for bringing this to America. Let's let women's love of gay men out of the closet. Brian is the hottest thing since Rock Hudson.
I BE Bubbles 03/24/2001
I have watched Queer as Folk for the start. I am a straight woman with many homosexual friends. I had to laugh the first time I watched the show becasue I was picking out the charaters and naming my friends to go with them. Queer as Folk to me is a true representaion of what I see a lot of my friends going through (even if they will not admit to it).The subjects that are dealt with are not only accurate in the gay community, they are dealt with in a respectful manner. It points out how we react to each other in the everyday world, for good or bad. It shows others that just because someone may have a sexual preference that is not our own, that makes them no less of a loving, caring person that has the same fears and desires! I love this show and I think it is finally time that a wonderful series such as this has come out.

I love it it's fabulous homophobes need to grow up this is real life
TxGirl 03/22/2001
I totally love this show! I am a 26 year old straight female and have become addicted ever since I happened upon the show one night. Now I can't wait to see what happens every week. It's not even about their gay lifestyle that intrigues me. It's just that there is a part of me and my friends in each one of their characters. The arrogance of Brian, the innocence of Justin, the sweetness of Micheal, the charisma of Emmitt. I must admit though, when I started watching the show I didn't think that it would be something that I could relate to..but it's just the opposite. I can relate better to their lives thant I can to Sex in the City! Besides, the other show doesn't have Brian...HE IS GORGEOUS!!!! This show is funny and captivating....This is why TIVO was invented!!!
