I totally agree with pittbull and saintlover! My friend has 6 dogs( we call her a private dog shelter : )) and she was buying TOW but couldn t affort it,than she switched to Diamond Naturals, and although it s not grain free,it doesn t have corn or soy. Also has fruit and veggies, and she says she is 100% sattisfied,as sattisfied a person can be feeding dry dog food.Yes,it would be better if we all switch to raw,and barf, but many people don t have time,or money, these kinds of food are great replacament.

I just bought my first bag of Diamond Lamb & Rice Naturals, for my 1 year old, he loved it! I like the price and the ingredients were not too bad either.I'm rating the food great because my 5 year old Saint Bernard has been eating Taste of the Wild for several months and is doing great on it. Diamond seems to be a good food, and believe me, I did my homework before I settled on it. Now I want to make a comment to the person who wrote that Purina is a good food!!! Learn to read labels, Purina is not a good food, and their Beneful line does not contain fruits & veggies. One more thing, the dog food you refer to as "Chicken Noodle Soup" is really named "Chicken Soup for the dog lovers soul"which I have also fed my dogs in the past, they did well on it, and I had NO problems with diarrhea or vomiting!!

I have been buying the Natural Lamb and Rice Large Breed Puppy Food. I like all the good ingredients but my dog can't poop solid on it, and has the worst GAS ever! He has been on it for months now and I can't pick up his poop in my back yard, it's just too runny! I have to switch him to a different food!

I personally would not feed my dogs the cheaper versions of the Diamond foods but the Diamond Naturals are a good food for the price. No corn, no by-products. My one male pit bull has a sensitive system and many dog foods give him the runs and really bad gas. I've found that his system tolerates the Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice very well. My Golden Retriever who has sensitivities tolerates the food well. I have very little to no gas amongst all my dogs. They seem to like the food and eat it well. They do not always act like they are hungry and they seem to be satisfied. I do not have any issues with them vomiting or having accidents in the house like I would have with many other brands of dog foods, including some of the pricey so-called better/best brands.I think Diamond offers a decent food for the price.

I have contacted this company about their re-call issues and pepered them with questions. No system is perfect. If we are HONEST with ourseleves, we have all made mistakens or fallen short in life. It isn't so much what happens as how you re-act and handle the matter. This company has instituted new safety checks and addressed the past issues. They do not use ingredients from asia, though they do use ingredients from Belgium, Germany and New Zealand where quality control is quite frankly Much higher than ours here in the US. I agree they deserve a chance. They are providing grain free foods at a cost that every dog owner can afford, nobody else is. I honestly don't feel that the re-call issues are all to blame on the companys. Afterall, most if not everything they were doing and have done was totally within the law. It was the government that let us down by not setting the standards higher and enforcing them. All of the correspondence I have received has been thorough and professional, but with that little touch that let me know they are real people too. The general products have fillers, BUT they start with meat meals which is more than Pedigree, Ol Roy, Beneful, and A LOT of other brands people seem to trust more.

We started out our GSD on a beef based food, but due to our situation we changed to diamond dog food. We gradually mixed it with her old food, but the change over was a little rough as can be predicted with the sensitive stomachs of GSD's. A sleepless night or two and some carpet scrubbing later and she became used to it. She has an excellent coat, lots of energy, and we are thinking of keeping her on it indefinitely. To a certain extent you get what you pay for I know, but for the price I think it is a good value dog food between bad and excellent somewhere. Though we are thinking of keeping our shepherd on it we have decided to keep our rescue dogs on it indefinitely. They love it. I think some people should take price into consideration in their ratings a little more. Other than the change over period, good value dog food.

just bought a 40lb. bag of the diamond naturals lamb and rice formula. economy has forced me to buy a more cost effective dog food. the ingredients in this looked ok. normally, i buy innova, wellness, canidae, etc. i am hoping my two mini schnauzers like it. i am already mixing it in with their old food, i switch slowly. so, will keep you posted in a couple of weeks.I previously rated this a 3 star food because I had not yet fed it to my dogs. It has been close to two months now. I think this is a wonderful food. my dogs both love it. coats are great, stools are normal, once or twice they poop a day. no runs or any nasty stuff. I am currently feeding the naturals lamb and rice formula. i don't understand the low ratings. this food has better ingredients than some of the brands that have higher ratings. i know diamond had their problems last year, but they have fixed them. forgive and give them another chance. that is what our country is supposed to be about, i mean, look who got elected president? I think its a great food, my dogs love it. what more can you want? Well, I have to now give this food a lower rating. My one year old mini schnauzer has been chewing her paws. Three of the four paws are just blood red between the pads. The vet says it is probably a food allergy. And since she has never had it before, I can only assume it is the lamb and rice. Apparently, a lot of dogs are allergic to lamb and the food is a little grain heavy. I am in the process now of switching to them both to Taste of the Wild. Maybe she will do better on that. The search is still on for a food that both of my dogs will do good on. Sorry, I was hoping this food would be "the one" as it is very reasonably priced. So, Taste of the Wild it is for the moment.

the Diamond naturals is a very good food. I use the Naturals small breed puppy and the naturals chicken and rice. I have been using these for the past year and all dogs have good coats and poops are fine. I have used Evo,Innova, Natures Variety, Evangers, NV Instinct and some others for the last 3 years. They are all good foods, with varing results with stools and coats. I also breed westies and have no problems with skin allergies on Diamond Naturals. It is a good food for a great price with no corn or other not so great ingredients. The only drawback is the poop stinks pretty bad and the gas will make you gag.

I feed my 2 cats Diamond Naturals active formula. I was feeding California Natural chicken and rice (which is essentially the same food, but $12 more per bag), but it gave one of my cats the runs...he never had solid stool on that food. They loved EVO, but I hated the price. Thus, I tried Diamond. At $1 per pound, it's cheaper than anything I've been able to find...both at the grocery store (which sells crap food that I wouldn't feed to any animal, EVER) and at the pet/farm stores. They LOVE it! They gobble it up right away. I've considered switching my dog to their chicken and rice formula...she eats Merrick currently, which she loves. My only concern is she has weird allergies, and has had bad reactions to other chicken and rice foods. I've had her on lamb and rice, but I'm not going back to lamb. Has anyone ever had an experience w/ an allergy-sensitive dog and Diamond? I'd love to her suggestions and stories!

i just started my GSD on diamond premium adult. i only did this because of a tight situation and hopefully this 40lb back will last me for a while..otherwise i usually feed canidae chicken and rice. i think he will live for the next two months...

The dog we had when I was growing up loved Diamond Dog food (and so did the cats, they preferred it to catfood), but it's a little too pricy.
K9Drover 10/02/2008
I'd like them to prove that they are really putting smoked salmon and other roasted meats and selling it at the price they do. That stuff isn't cheap but the food is. Something here smells very fishy and it isn't their Pacific Stream food.
AleashaC 09/16/2008
The first ingredient in this food is chicken by-product meal. Poultry by-product meal is a high-protein commodity used as a major component in some pet foods. The second ingredient is ground corn. This should never be fed to a dog, case closed.
ryaneisenbrei 07/25/2008
ok so i agree that diamond regular is not that great but when you look at diamond dog foods as a whole, they have everything! they have regular diamond for people who want cheap dog food with fillers and all that bad stuff( but atleast it doesnt have BHA or vitamin k3), then it has its diamond naturals which are actually very good and also still very cheap in price, then one step higher you have chicken soup for the dog lovers soul which is great and has nothing bad to say about it(thats their hollistic brand), and lastly they make Taste of the Wild as their grainless dog food which is amazing and still a great price! i dont care what you other ney sayers have to say, diamond is a great dog food and shouldnt have that bad stigma because of that corn thing 3 years ago.(besides only the diamond regular has corn in it!)
MrJackHammer 03/18/2008
Low quality dog food with all the typical fillers. Can be found at Farm supplies enough said.

I bought a new bag of Kirkland premium lamb, rice and vegetable 2 days ago and my great dane woke up last night (she always sleeps through the night) and had diahrea with blood in it. She has been on this food her whole life (she's 2 yrs) and never had a problem. I am going to call Costco today and see if anyone else has complained. The exp. date is June 2009. Anyone else having a problem???
lucy2 11/29/2007
I have had good luck with a lot of the Diamond foods. Our cats have never been healthier than on Chicken Soup and have been eating it for the past 2 years. Our dogs love the taste of the Naturals line. However there is only one out of the way store who sells Chicken soup & Naturals so that would be my only complaint.
clanclark 11/13/2007
Well, I posted here more than a year ago and I will now say again, I still use the lamb and rice for my Danes. They are very healthy, strong and full of energy and life. With the introduction of the "Naturals" variety that have no by-products or Corn I still cannot say enough about how well my dogs have done over these years.I have nothing but praise for this food as it has performed very well and saves me close to $40 a month compared to higher priced brands of equal quality. In my opinion, again, there is not a better dog food value than Diamond Naturals Dog Food.
mrhill1977 08/28/2007
Not all Diamonds Petfoods are junk like some of the uneducated posters say!! First Diamond is a huge company just like every other dog food company. Diamond Naturals is the newest and best diamond brand out it is right there with Natural Choice ,Natural Balance, Solid Gold ...It has no by products no corn it comes in chicken and rice lamb and rice and a few others...Diamond also has Chicken Soup for the Dog lovers soul ..which is a excellent food read labels compare labels this Diamond Naturals is great i Raise Pure bred American Pitbull Terriers and they do Excellent on it...If you switch foods all at once they will have upset stomachs...Do your on research just because someone says its bad doesnt mean its bad and also some animals react different!!!

After reading the comments posted by diananewbie calling someone an idiot because she couldn't find phenobarbitol listed on a bag of Purina (eeewww). do some reasearch b4 you call someone an idiot. AAFCO regs do not require it to be listed as it was added to the dead dogs and cats they use for a protein, meat and bone meal soure by the people at the dog pound. Alot of food plants contract with shelters etc. Just because you couldn't find it on the list doesn't mean it isn't there,so who is the idiot? FYI Diamond doesn't contract with shelters, but Purina might. I wouldn't feed that brand to a dog or cat I didn't like.

I have been using The Kirkland Signature Super Premium Chicken and rice for 3 years now... and am the owner and breeder of Champion Boxers. They are doing great on it, and I have tried other expensive brands... all that didn't agree with my dogs. For the price there is none better out there... especially if you are feeding 5 dogs.

Diamond Premium Review: Inadequate meat content, by-products, low quality grains and other controversial filler. The first ingredient is by-products. The next two ingredients are low quality grains. Wheat flour is a grain fragment. The use of wheat is a significant negative: wheat is believed to be the number one cause of allergy problems in dog food. Corn is a problematic grain that is difficult for dogs to digest and thought to be the cause of a great many allergy and yeast infection problems. We prefer not to see this used in dog food, yet it is the primary grain in this food. It is a concern to see a fat as the fourth ingredient. Research at Purdue University has identified fat in the top four ingredients of a dry food as a factor that increases the risk of bloat in large breed dogs. Smaller breeds are untested. Brewers rice is a low quality grain and by-product. Beet pulp is further filler and a by-product, being dried residue from sugar beets which has been cleaned and extracted in the process of manufacturing sugar. It is a controversial ingredient in dog food, claimed by some manufacturers to be a good source of fibre, and derided by others as an ingredient added to slow down the transition of rancid animal fats and causing stress to kidney and liver, and commonly causes allergies and ear infections. Fish meal, 7th on the ingredient list, is the sole quality named meat meal ingredient in the food. This is too low to make up an appreciable portion of the food. The above review from the www.dogfoodanalysis.com website rated this food 1 out of 6 stars. (please go to this site to read and make a good choice) Some of the 5 and 6 star rated foods from above site: Nature's Variety, Orijen, Solid Gold, Timberwolf, Artemis, California Natural, Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Evangers, Fromms, Go Natural, Innova, Merrick, Natures logic, Wellness, Some of the 4 star rated food: Blue Buffalo, Dr's Foster & Smith, Natural Balance, Performatrin Ultra, Pinnacle, Premium Edge, Sensible Choice Some of the foods above are priced very reasonably (Canidae at my local store is only $32 for 40# bag) The above foods have more calories per cup of food than the cheaper grain based foods. Usually about 450 quality cal/cup versus 350 low nutritional cal/cup. Therfore less food is needed to maintain weight, this offsets the small added cost of the above 22 listed premium brands. Good luck on your choice.

We are Collie Breeders and use the Premium since our dogs are not kenneled and are quite active. They seem to thrive on it.

MY DOG IS NOW 15 YEARS OLD AND I ALWAYS GAVE HIM DIAMOND DOG FOOD THE KIRKLAND SIGNATURE FROM COSTCO AND ON THE LAST TRIP TO THE VET I WAS TOLD THAT MY DOG DID NOT LOOK LIKE A 15 YEAR OLD HE WAS IN THE BEST OF HEALTH AND COULD PAS FOR A 5 YEAR OLD IF IT WAS NOT FOR THE GREY HAIR THIS FOOD HAS THE BEST NUTITION FACTOR IT IS EXCELENT I COULD NOT ASK FOR BETTER PRODUCT AND IT IS ANIMAL FRIENDLY TOO . I HAVE TRIED THE VERY EXPENSIVE DOG FOOD THAT THE VET HAD RECOMMENDED AFTER HE SAW MY DOG HE HAS CHANGE HIS DOG FOOD IA HAVE A PURE BRED BLACK LAB AND A MINIATURE DOBERMAN PICHER AND SHE LONES IT TOO.IF YOU ARE A COSTCO MEMBER DONT MISSE THIS DEAL YOUR DOG WILL THANK YOU FOR IT.

As of January 2006, there is a recall on their food. They also make other forumulas under different names, so beware. They did do a recall on their products which can kill your dog. Turns out the corn is toxic in their food. They also make Chicken Soup for The Dog Lover's Soul, but that is not supposed to be contaminated since it doesn't have corn and is supposed to be made in a different plant.
badcostcofood 01/17/2006
Our otherwise healthy 5-year-old yellow lab died suddenly this week from massive liver failure, with symptoms consistent with aflatoxin. Her diet included "Kirkland Signature" made by diamond, sold by Costco. That brand is not listed in the recall, however, it is suspicious enough that we are planning an autopsy & toxicology tests to confirm our suspicions. Some one needs to explain to my 9-year old daughter why her best friend was poisoned.
p2gee 01/16/2006
This is a very unfortunate event for Diamond Pet foods and the owners of the pets who ingested the contaminated food. Most folks here are on a witch hunt for Diamond somehow thinking they are responsible for inspecting EVERY kernal of grain, every cut of meat or poultry used in their products. No pet food company does or can do this unless people are willing to pay $100 a bag.
pacollys 01/12/2006
Diamond has pinpointed the "Best Before" dates of the affected dog food formulas. MSNBC reports after 2700 samples tested from all recalled lines, only 2 formulas were tainted. Diamond Premium Adult Dog and Diamind Premium Maintance Dog foods. The "Best Before" dates of the potentialy toxic foods are April 3-5 and April 11, 2007. I like Diamond and have used different formulas of the food over the years for my 6 collies. We were very fortunate the Premium Adult my dogs ate was not toxic, being from dates *after* April 11 2007. After all this dies down, I will go back to Diamond again in the future should the need arise.
LouieLegend 01/11/2006
Diamond LB Puppy has worked wonderfully for us. Obviously the current issues put a dark cloud over diamond and fortunately we were not affected. But, it has been great for our 6 month old pup. He's in great health. Coat looks great
Gromit 01/10/2006
Diamond is going to have major lawsuits on its hands. Over 100 dogs have died so far because of some peoples' selfishness and stupidity at Diamond! They should TEST large cross samples of their food before releasing it to the public for sale.
ANG 01/10/2006
Hello!I have heard over a hundred dogs have died from Diamond Pet food.I have also heard a lot of other bad things about them.Diamonds,Chicken Noodle Soup For The Dog Lover's Soul, is expensive but it has great ingredients (or so I thought).Like fruits and vegetables. At first Diamond said this brand wasn't affected but it was.Who is really to trust what is or isn't affected.I know mistakes happen, but dog food companies should be a lot more regulated. You can barely buy any dog snacks or food that don't have bone meal.I also seen snacks that had animal plasma in it, which isn't neccesary. It is very hard to find a good dog food.Especially at a good price, they can be very expensive.A lot of them have good and bad points to them.Purina Beneful(if your dog isn't allergic to color, has fruits and vegetables),Purina Pro Plan and Nutro are really good, Pedigree (has antioxidants),Purina One is great(they have Chicken as the first ingredient and the puppy formula has DHA.It is very hard to pick.I know Diamond has a good price but they are supposedley raising it a dollar a bag anyhow. How are they going to make up for all these expensive dogs lost, let alone how horrible it is for all these owners, and how many vet bills they probably have.I am sorry for everyone who lost a dog or has a sick one.
bncvbn 01/09/2006
This is horrible how can they not to their homework before selling something ? You go to their website and of course you have no place to say what you think. No word about how such a mistake happened no apology. They talk about their fine product and all that bs I hope they go out of biz for the pain and loss they caused to pet lovers
seomontreal 01/01/2006
In Dec of 2005 I returned a bag of Kirkland Signature dog food to Costco in Montreal Canada as it smelled like Sh*t! Literally! It was awful! Then I noticed that it does not expire until the year 2007 - ick. I bought a new bag of dog food and while it didn't smell as bad, it also had that same smell. I have been researching dog food and recently learned that fecal matter is an acceptable form of animal protein in dog food!
Percheronwoman 01/01/2006
Our lovely standard poodle is in teh ICU at Cornell University with aflatoxin poisoning. I hope Diamond intends to pay her vet bills. We spent over an hour with Dr. Center, the country's elading liver specialist n dogs who is treating our dog. We are going to try and see our dog through this. Diamond should be coordinating a national bulletin board for pet owners, not hiding its head and covering its ass.
jlphilli 12/29/2005
I second the rating about the aphlatoxin infestation in the corn used in Diamond pet foods....before I posted this, there was a news airing about 4 dogs dying from this food in Raleigh, NC. This dog food should be taken off the market immediatley!! ***For more discussions on dog food, visit my DOG FOOD DEBATE web forum @ http://dogfood.suddenlaunch3.com/index.cgi ***
DogLover22 12/29/2005
Aside from this dog food being potentially lethal to pets, it contains very unhealthy/harmful ingredients. Go to nutrapet.com and you can read about the effects of certain ingredients and compare your dog food. For example, beet pulp is put in dog food to harden dogs stools. Without the beet pulp bad dog foods make dogs have very runny stools. I'm sure we can all do without this. Even before this dog food started to kill pets I knew I would never use it as the ingredients are bad, bad, bad! If you care about your pet, do the research and make sure they have a healthy diet. There are much healthier alternatives to this deadly dog food.
AscencionC 12/27/2005
I like many was looking for a comparable barand and comparing apple to apples, oranges to oranges. Diamond was suggested by our neighborhood FeedStore owner and I decided to go for it. The ingredients are pretty much similar to other top of line brands and for considerably less. My dog which weighs in at 125, big dog, eats just what is suggested and is very satisfied as feed store owner stated. His coat is BEAUTIFUL and he is just a star everywhere he goes. I truely believe in this food. I believe as in anything in life, here and there a person, company, or any our government may stumble. This does not mean to stopp believing, only to correct the situation and move ahead. just another wake up call. I hope diamond get the opportunity to right the misfortune and continue to feed our pups. I am truely soory for families that have lost pets. bless!

Diamond pet Food has a recall out for it's Premium Dog food which is infected with aphlatoxin and has killed or made very ill some of the consumer animals. The product is sold at Petco and possibly other outlets. please check the manufacturer when buying pet food.

We feed KIRKLAND Chicken and Rice (by Diamond available at COSTCO). Now, we have been feeding a very expensive SOLID GOLD to our entire Kennel. Now, 4 months later, we see little difference except in our monthly bills. $15 per 40# bag compared to $32 for 30#. Is it as good? Maybe, we will update in 9 more months. But for now, it seems to be well worth it.

we recently switched from prism to diamond, mistake,we had a yorkie, 2 corgie, 2 french bulldogs, and 1 beagle that we bred while feeding diamond, when they whelped none had any milk and we lost all the puppies, to lose 8 frenchie puppies is not fun,i can not blame diamond but sure can not come up with any other reason for this, since we have switch back to prism are dog are raising there puppies and have milk, just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this, thank you

I live in the Metro area where the plant is located in SC. It is the top news story around here. There have been dogs to die here in Columbia already and more that I have heard of in NC & NY. My great dane breeder used it also - I got my great dane off of it as soon as I got him 2 months ago. - Patricia

So much for rating these scum balls. Warning: Their toxic food has been recalled as you all probably know by now. God only knows the pain they caused pet lovers. Nobody who loves their pets will ever buy their food again and they will take their place in the hall of shame alongside Hartz. I hope this little animal killing "oversight" on their part shuts them down. It would be poetic justice. Incidentally, these pet killers have their website frozen right now so that nobody can contact them and tell them what they think. That's ok, millions of animal lovers will be checking back. I sincerelly hope with all my heart that nobody on this board is a victim of this company.
danelover 12/22/2005
A Great Dane breeder recommended this brand for a puppy. YUCK! I should have known as all her danes are tubby and not very muscular as compared to mine. This food is terrible--stinky copious stools, lots of farts, etc. It made housetraining a nightmare. Switched the puppy to Canidae (per the Great Dane nutrition page: http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/criteria_list _of_better_foods.htm). Much better!! My other dane was fed Eagle Pak as a puppy (had to get it drop shipped) and Blackwood which are both on the list or raw foods from Oma's Pride and Farmore as an adult with good results too. Nice and muscular and very athletic at over 7 years of age. Now I'm really glad I didn't use that crappy Diamond with its poor quality cheapy ingredients. It was recently discovered to have toxic mold in it and has killed dogs. At $18/50lbs, what do you expect?! If you love your dogs, feed a quality food and don't skimp! You get what you pay for!!!!

---Better dogfood for a very good price--- A few days ago we changed our dogfood NUTRO to Diamont Maintenance for Adult Dogs with Omega 3 and 6. My dogs have very sensitive skin and their coat is getting better. Only negativ thing I have to say is, my dogs forting a lot :( I give Diamond food 4 STARS and my to dogs( a Boxer and a frenchbulldog) give 5 STARS

I have noticed that my dogs seem to prefer the taste of Diamond Brand pet foods to any other premium foods I have tried. They all seem to eat it well, from our Rottweiler to our Miniture Pinscher and have very nice coats and good weight retention. I was turned on to this food at our local feed store who gave out free samples that my dogs just gobbled up. I spoke with a couple of hunting buddies who were feeding Diamond to their hunting dogs with excellent results.
