I never liked Rush though there longevity and consistency probably warrants induction at some point.

The bias against Rush is unbelievable. Explain the reasons some of these people are in and Rush is not.Is it influence? Look at the artists who call this trio influential. Is it record sales? Look how many they have sold. Is it longevity? Well over 30 years. Is it musicality? Three of the tightest musicians as consistently lauded by every major publication. Is it sticking to their own musical beliefs and not selling out? Wow, few have ever stuck to their own "musical" guns the way Rush has. Trust me, I'm not one of those die hard Rush fans who do not listen to any other form of music (hey, no one applauded more than me when Mile made it in). So would someone please explain to me why this band isn't in the Hall of Fame? Oh, yeah, some editor said he didn't like them and they would never be in. Idiot.
mykulltea666 12/13/2007
Whether or not you like their music is a matter of taste, but it is impossible to deny the influence they've had on later generations of bands. For that reason, there's really no question as to whether they should be in the HoF. That said, I see no reason to get too bent out of shape since the band members, true to form, are on record as being indifferent to the whole thing.

Hello fellow RUSH fan, music lover and friend,As RUSH fans we all know that RUSH has been snubbed throughout the years by those in charge of the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Being fully aware of the musicianship, longevity and incredible talent this band has, I for one am insulted and angered that this omission has been allowed to take place for so long. We have probably all signed, or at least viewed, the various petitions that are passed across the internet on a regular basis yet it doesn't seem to have any effect. I have to wonder if the word just isn't reaching the right people or perhaps NOT ENOUGH people are being reached to sign it.Therefore, I have decided to create a petition of my own, utilizing a website that specializes in creating petitions in hope that we can gain enough attention to bring this injustice to an end. Word of mouth, very much like that which started the RUSH legacy to begin with, is very important and I implore you to sign this petition and pass it along to anyone you think might be willing to sign it as well. Too many bands or musicians who didn't have the talent or longevity that RUSH has, have been shuffled to the top of the pile while RUSH remains neglected and it is time for them to receive the recognition they have long deserved. You can click the link below to sign the petition. Thanks for the attention you gave to this message and thanks in advance for passing it along. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/RUSH-to-the-Hall-of-Fame

The sqeaky wheel gets the kick.
A few things I have ascertained is that we all love Rush and we know they are one of the greatest bands, ever! Rush fans are intelligent – Rush is the "thinking persons band". What I also see is a strong desire from a lot of us for them to be included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (R&RHoF). Here is where I see a split in the fans. Some say they should be in, others say they will never be allowed in because of politics. Lets put Rush's lessons to use here and let our collective voice be heard!Exercise your Freewill , Lets hit the R&RHoF at Force 10. I propose to hit them in a multifaceted "Rush for Rush". The plan itself is simple; the five steps I recommend:1. Sign every petition.2. Write a personal letter to the R&RHoF3. Befriend the R&RHoF on MySpace4. Send a polite comment to them reminding them of the injustice. 5. Pass this message to every Bulletin board, Group, Fan Website which you belong to.The simple acts of individuals make for a very loud united voice! It is important to sign every petition regardless of your view of the hall's politics, the more petitions they receive the more they will be forced to take notice!
"Send an open letter to the powers that be". Write the R&RHoF here:
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation1290 Avenue of the Americas Second Floor New York, NY 10104What so I need to put in the letter? That is up to you. However, the criteria from the R&RHoF website says they are eligible 25 years after the release of their first record. It also states "Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist's contribution to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll."This is also from the R&RHoF website; "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum stands as a monument to the living heritage of rock and roll music." "Music gives us a microphone to speak to the world. And music has the power to bring generations, nationalities and people together. Now more than ever, it's critical to study and understand how music is changing our world as well as reflecting it." These are the areas I focus on in my letters. Rush may be a Canadian band – their music reaches the world. I have been fortunate enough to see them on two continents.Once you have become a friend of the Hall – send them a comment – often, once a week, once a month or daily! Tell them to Vote Rush in! Sure they may not post all your comments – we shouldn't Spam them. This "test of ultimate will" is for us the fans, not for the band or their personal glory. We want them to be recognized as the great band we know. I feel Rush deserves to "fill the hallowed halls" in Cleveland. "Look out...for the force without form"; lets you and I become that force to effect the change. Let's throw three flaming spheres down their throats and keep doing it until our goal has been reached."My goal is more than a thoughtI'll be there When I teach what I've been taughtAnd I've been taught..."

I cannot believe that Rush fans are having to fight so hard to get these guys in. This is a shame and an injustice.

One of the finest bands Canada (or anywhere else) ever produced. They've been going for over thirty years and still remain vital as song writers. They're latest Snakes And Arrows is one of the finest of their very long career. As a live act there are few bands that compare and to think that they're still playing dynamite shows after 30+ years is almost beyond belief.
aasdsdasdasda 10/11/2007
Missed out again - unbelievable! Chic? John Cougar Mellencamp? Afrika freakin Bambaataa? What was the nominating commitee thinking? Lots of great bands/performers more deserving than them such as Yes, Deep Purple, Stevie Ray, etc., but NONE more deserving than Geddy, Neil and Alex for their musical contributions and tremendous influence on musicians everywhere. Seriously, have you ever met a drummer or bassist who hasn't listed Neil or Geddy as influences? Alex also deserves props. Voters, get over the anti-prog bias already and give Rush the credit they are due. The Rock HOF will not have any credibility until these guys are enshrined.
Donna2112 10/01/2007
Rush's combination of musical perfection and thought-provoking lyrics is unsurpassed. Period.
xtnshun 09/29/2007
I'm not a rush fan; however I was shocked that they weren't already in the Hall of Fame. I remember my friendes listening to them at college (in the early 80s) and they were well on their way to having the sort of fan base that gets you in. Go Rush!
djRock4USA 09/29/2007
People, this is not just about your favorite Rock band or who Rocks the hardest. Its about the Giants of the Rock & Roll Era! Musician that define not just Modern Music but an entire ERA & Generation. Very few artist can define an Era. If there was a "Mount Rushmore" Of musical Giants of the Rock & Roll Era, these faces would be chiseled in the rock! 50's Elvis / Little Richard / Chuck Berry 60's Beatles / Aretha Franklin/ Rolling Stones 70's Elton John / Donna Summer / Led Zeppelin/ Rush 80's Bruce Springsteen / Madonna/ Billy Joel 90's Nirvana / Aerosmith / Alanis Morrisette These Superstars and a few others define their Era. I don't love them all, but they are History .. enough Said!
Skinnyman2112 09/29/2007
After reviewing this years list of nominees, I am certain that the so called "music industry" that has provided us with the likes of Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, and countless other acts that never had talent have once again shown that they have no idea how to assess talent. Let's forget the arguments about this years nominees (Chic - are you serious?)but, rather look at the reasons for nomination and their overall accomplishments. If we are to believe they take a hard look at influence on the rock/music industry, Rush has spurned the careers of more musicians to pick up an instrument than all other acts combined. Sure, Madonna gave us rails as teenagers, and she has succeded in longevity, popularity, and influence. She can sing/lip-sync and dance, but she doesn't play an instrument, write the songs, or create the lyrics!! I think all of us who have been influenced as writers, musicians, and performers are not surprised that Rush is again snubbed by those same critics/execs who never gave them their due. I imagine that, one day, Rush will be selected, and the turnout for the induction will be the largest in the history of the R&RHOF.
tomdowd 09/29/2007
RUSHHHHH! What other band was just so cool to grow up to in the late 70's? A Farewell to Kings! Hemispheres! Perminant Waves! Moving Pictures! After listening to Zep and Floyd it was sweet to get stoned to RUSH. If you didn't grow up in Toronto in the 70's then you have no idea!
SteveRockn 09/28/2007
The same guys, same group and 30+ years TOGETHER, how many others bands have ever latest that long? And a loyal fan following worldwide. Without them in, the Hall of Fame is a J O K E. Period. An inspiration to MILLIONS...plus one....ME!!!!!
alphaGeek15217 09/24/2007
I honestly can't think of any other band that is more consistently cited as an influence on young, up and coming musicians. Throughout an extraordinarly long career, Rush has evolved as no other act has ever done before them. Their sound has changed with every album, gaining technical brilliance without losing their hard rocking edge. This band should have been in the Hall of Fame years before now. It's time to right this wrong and induct these outstanding musicians.
Potch1214 09/11/2007
To put it simply, the best drummer and bass player in rock history. The guitarist ain't no slouch either. You may not like the tunes, or Geddy's voice, but you can't deny the influence and staying power. Or the sales. Very deserving!
oseanus 08/30/2007
Give me a break... this shouldn't even be a discussion... They should have their own wing in the Hall of Fame.
redman23 08/27/2007
There are very few bands more deserving of enshrinement than RUSH. They are way overdue.
jacoby 08/26/2007
It is a travesty that Rush isn't already in the Rock Hall of Fame.
kiss27 08/18/2007
The Canadian rockers should have been inducted years ago!!!
rtoumbs 08/13/2007
Should have been in years ago. No question. Some of the other bands entered are a complete joke and not worthy of mentioning alongside RUSH. Forget the longevity thing and the fact they have stayed true to writing and performing intelligent music unlike the other artists already enshrined. Their lives shows, combined with their machine-like musical precision has never been matched by any band and I don't know if it ever will. A number of outstanding bands have been overlooked far too long. Vote RUSH in now or burn the thing down. It is getting close to useless at this point and most people consider it a total joke when you look at the bands already in vs. those omitted because they don't fit the "mold". RRHOF, add some credibility to your institution and get RUSH in before they refuse to enter......

baredd79 06/22/2007
Rush should have been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame years ago. How can some of these no talent ass clowns, like "Grand Master Flash" be up for the running, but no Neil Peart!? The people who run The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame are a bunch of politically correct butt pirates. Long Live Rush! - B.A.R.
MWhitesides 06/21/2007
Just released their "18th" studio ablum at #3 on the Billboard charts. Been around since the 70s. Neil Peart voted #1 rock drummer of all time by Modern Drummer mag. They've been together (same guys) since 1975. Been selling out arenas ever since and still are. COME ON!!!
Bassman2277 05/11/2007
I think that Rush should be inducted into the all of fame because they have definately changed the way musicians play their instruments. Every album they released took their technical playing and songwriting skills to a new level and, by example, their peers heard, reacted and pushed themselves to a more technically proficient and melodically intense status.
MISTERJAW 04/22/2007
Rush should be in. Geddy Lee's bass playing and singing is amazing. Alex Lifeson is one of rock's greatest guitarists and drummer Neil Peart is a Hell of a lyricist and the best living rock drummer. On a side note, the only prog band in the RNRHOF is Pink Floyd. Floyd had to wait until 1996 to get in as Jann Wenner and Dave Marsh were anti-PF. PF were in because of their spectacular ground breaking concert productions, monstrous album sales and their enormous charity work, ALL WITHOUT A STAR FRONTMAN. Since PF was inducted, it's only a matter of time before fellow prog contemporaries Rush, Genesis, ELP, Yes, Jethro Tull and The Moody Blues will be inducted.
ZZTopVA 04/20/2007
Rush may be the most polarizing rock and roll band in history. Every time I see them mentioned anywhere, it's either to say how great they are or how much they are disliked. For a lot of people they are an acquired taste, I guess. But I have a hard time believing that anyone who has spent an hour or two listening to their music at the very least, could come away with anything but a deep appreciation for their musicality. The Hall seems to want to put musical integrity ahead of commercial success, so what gives here?

No way. Here's where you draw the line between influential and commercial success.
raiderz 03/22/2007
Should have gotten in the RRHOF years ago. Neil Peart is the best drummer alive today, if not the greatest ever. Same can be said about Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson. They are among the best at their instruments. The Hall of Fame has to recognize and honor talent like that. How R.E.M. (who?!) got in before them shows how much of a joke this selection committee is. They need to pull their heads out of where the sun
don't shine.

Rush is/has always been the premier example of an act that's entirely independent of the very Disney-Omni-Pseudo-Art we're being pump-fed these days by the likes of Rolling Stone magazine, MTV, etc... What I find really incredible is that this Hall Of Fame cr*p has become such a clic-popularity contest. Seems one of the very reasons I got into music was to escape these sorts of people - - lol - - now they run the Hall Of Fame? LOL - hilarious irony. C'mon guys, you really think these smug fools will ever admit they've missed the boat on one of music's most talented and revered bands of the last 30 years? But alas, 'if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice' hmmm.
tuxedo84 03/12/2007
RUSH are overlooked. Their music ROCKs and they are the best musicians around! They should have been inducted years ago.
dg0953 03/10/2007
If the RRHoF was run as a legitimate museum and hall of fame, groups like Rush and Yes would have been inducted years ago. If I had a few mil, I'd start a Prog Rock Hall of Fame and have a month-long party inducting all these guys who are getting the shaft from the RRHofF. Hey, you don't have to like prog rock but respect those who do!
dave2112c 02/27/2007
Get them in the Hall of Fame already!!
ByTor2112 02/26/2007
What is the R&R HoF smokin'????? Geddy, Alex, and Neil should have been added YEARS ago!
RoadStarRider 02/19/2007
Rush not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame? Why my friends (& fiends) this is certainly the 8th wonder of the world - period! Though as a avid Rush fan some me think my opinion biased, but; let me state clearly that I am also a musician. I understand what kind of talent it takes to produce the kind of music that this trio... that's right TRIO pumps out. Maybe it's because they are from Canada, maybe it's because listening to Geddy Lee's howling for too long has been proven to cause permanent high frequency hearing loss/damage, maybe John Rutsey is praying real hard as he eats his heart out for NOT sticking with this band (um... he didn't want to go on tour?), or maybe we are wasting time on maybe's - The bottom line is that it's really a shame that these guys aren't where they should be. AND if I'm wrong, may my lower e string break after playing any 5 notes for the rest of my life. Sigh-ned... Crazy Chris
