I love frogs...but don't know that I need one as a pet

They are ok but they get kinda freaky after a while! i used to love them but now i am afraid of holding one! a while ago i was at a swamp looking for frogs with my younger brother. we found several baby frogs and we grabbed them and braught them home. when we put them in some water to wash them off we noticed that they had 5 legs and some had even more! i havent been able to hold a frog in 4 years now without freaking out thinking that they are deformed.

Frogs are ok as pets, in that they are more active then fish and turtles, but I don't think I ever want to own one.

These things are just plain gross! Give that frog some skin creme for those warts yuck!

Although I don't know if I would want one as a pet, I find frogs to be the most amusing animals in nature. They don't do much, but they just crack me up. I used to catch them in the creek in front of our house when I was growing up. Sad to see them used in biology classes. Sure, not big on the brains department, but I just find them so entertaining to watch. Prefer bullfrogs and green frogs, as opposed to the more exotic ones.

I have an african clawed frog because she is one of the easiest species to keep, and doe not have to eat live food (i dont like bugs). She eats pellets and various other frozen and dried foods. Some species of frog are very sensitive and not easy to keep or feed. Frogs dont tend to move around much, unless they are feeding. I had a horned frog who never really moved at all, except to snap at a piece of food. Some frogs/toads are huge and all are interresting, if you class researching their natural environment and trying to recreate it so they can survive interresting. They need a moist environment which must be sprayed daily, if this is neglegted they will dry up and die. I highly recommend african clawed frogs if you want this type of pet. They require a large filtered aquarium, dont need a light. Dont fill the tank right to the top frogs have to swim to the surface tio get their oxygen. Floating plants are useful for the frog to rest on, as is a shelter under the water, large enough for your frog to fit in entirely. They need feeding every other day, but can survive without food if you go on holiday for a few days. They are very greedy and will snap at your fingers if you put them too close, this does not hurt as they have no teeth. They should be fed using plastic tweezers to ensure they are eating enough, and their tank must be kept very clean.

I LIKE ANPHIBIANS,REPTILES,AND INSECTS.I THINK FROGS ARE COOL.THEY CAN EAT MORE THAN A 100 BUGS A NIGHT.THEY EAT ANY INSECT THAT MAY FLY BY THEM.ITS TAKES PATIANTS FOR A FROG TO SNEEK UP ON THE BUG,THATS WHY THEY HAVE THESE LONGE TOUNGES THAT CAN REACH THE BUG.FROGS NORMALLY DONT EAT IN FRONT OF PEOPLE.IF YOU HAVE A TREE FOG ITS BEST TO HAVE A GOOD SIZE AQARIUM FOR THEM TO HOP EAT AND DO WHAT THEY NORMALLY DO IN THE WILD,BUT PLEASE DONT KEEP A FROG IN A LITTLE PLASTIC CAGE,BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT MAKE IT,BECAUSE ITS NOT ENOUGH ROOM FOR A FROG TO DO ANYTHING.

To me, a pet is for companionship. This don't fill the bill.

Frogs are cool little creatures, but like fish, I have never really thought of this as an ideal pet. Too many things can happen with an animal this small and "jumpy" that their lifespans are not usually too long. They're fun to look at every once and a while, but my idea of a pet is something that I can establish a relationship with. I highly doubt if I called my pet frog by name that he would respond.

We had some frogs in our bio lab. These pathetic creatures never move a muscle. Until some idiot left the water overflowing.

If I was ever insane enough to have a frog as a pet, I'd just sit and watch it hop its way out the door. What even makes a frog a pet? Dogs and even cats can understand human feelings... they interact with you. Dogs are meant to be with humans. Dogs are better with humans; both dog and man enjoy each other's company. But a frog has no interaction with you at all. They would never ever want to live with a human. It's sad that so many people today see any animal as a pet, like frogs, crabs, and monkey's- thier not. Leave them alone.

We had some live ones in the high school biology lab.They were cool to watch, but I don't think I'd like to have one as a pet.

I used to have a beautiful tree frog.My mom he was gonna eat her so I had to get rid of him. They are good pets as long as your not looking for something to touch and be cuddly with.

well I'm over 8 and I have a tree frog and several newts as pets. I like frogs because if you catch a fly or something in the house you can throw it in and hence the "circle of life" thing. Also, it isn't a big investment, he can spend a nice winter indoors and in the spring I can let him loose if he seems lonely. He seems very happy.Actually, watching them stalk bugs is very cool.

Not only can I not think of a single reason to own a frog, I can't think of a single reason why a sane frog would have any desire to live with humans. Unless of course you're French...well, we know what you people do to frogs. Shame on you!

Frogs, like snakes and other wild animals should be left in their natural habitat to live out their normal life span. They're cute and interesting animals but as pets they are doomed to fail - not to mention never realize their full life span. Leave them alone and let them live. If you are truely ready to take on the responsibility of a dog or a cat - about a 15 year commitment in most cases - by all means go to your local shelter or find a good breeder.

Well, frogs are fun to watch for little boys. Fortunately my brother (whom I will torture greatly when he has children of his own) gave my boys a tadpole that they could watch turn into a frog. Aaaah, the joy, the learning experience. This was a special frog, you could see through it's skin (special..grotesque..whatever you want to call it). All was progressing nicely, a couple extremities popped out...wow really cool, it is turning into a frog..then mid-limb it got stuck..after a few days, it was apparent that this amazing transformation had been interrupted and the floating half frog would progress no longer. Being the wimps that we are, my husband "brought Henry to the vet, so that he could help him complete the process of turning into a frog" (good one huh!?) Henry II came back (black this time) and all was well with the world. Until 2 months later and Henry was floating..We couldn't keep up the charade, so we said our good-byes to Henry. He rests in peace in the backyard, where my sons often lay flowers and talk to him.

If you're over 8 years old, I can't imagine that having a frog around would be all that exciting. In college a friend of mine kept a frog in a fish tank, and at some point the frog jumped out and died behind the radiator. The only reason my friend noticed was because a strange smell started to fill his room. The moral of this story is: If you have a frog in a fish tank, put a lid on it.
