You know, it seems as though everyone the Bush/Rove machine have managed to place in various high profile offices is solely to please and pander to their far right evangelical base. What about us moderate protestants? Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson don't speak for us....and neither does Bush or Ashcroft. John Ashcroft has run amock since 9/11. What's happened to 'due process?' And now, Bush and Ashcroft have the right to jail any American citizen for an indefinite period of time simply by claiming they are an enemy combant. Who determines what actions are classified as 'enemy combatant?' Is my speaking out against the Bush Administartion enough to qualify me as an 'enemy combatant?' Bush and Ashcroft pose a higher risk to my freedoms and way of life than Saddam Hussein does....

I wish there was some way I could give this blue-nosed prick a 0 rating. This man is the greatest threat to our individual liberties since Richard Nixon. Actually, he's probably even worse than Nixon. At least Tricky Dick wasn't always trying to shove the bible down our throats. Ashcroft's campaign to spend thousands of dollars of taxpayer's money to cover the naked breast on the Statue of Justice says everything that needs to be said about this Christofascist. The biggest menace to public safety to emerge from Missouri since Jesse James and Bloody Bill Quantrell.

Ashcroft is in a close race with Cheney to see which one is really the biggest fascist. This guy is a threat to our civil liberties as a people. The only way that this guy has any balance is with regard to abortion and guns. He figures that he'll restrict the RIGHT that a woman has to choose, now don't worry about the population going up too much, because he'll also make sure everyone has a gun; that way we can stave off a population explosion!

The guy is a vile, lying man. What was Mr. Bush thinking when he nominated this jerk to become Attorney General? It seems that according to what his supporters say, he should get the job because he's qualified (he wins elections, in other words, he's a career politician), he's a Christian (i.e. he goes to church), and he has high integrity (yet they never mention his lying to the Senate about Ronnie White). And please don't play that religion card. I'm a Christian myself.

John Ashcroft is a bigot, a liar, and a freedom-taker. He has already launched himself on a campaign to take away a suffering persons' right to die, perhaps for lack of anything better to do. He is intolerant of all those who are not as alike as slices of white bread in the same loaf as him. As Slim Jim says, he has systematically tried to kill the Bill of Rights time and time and time again. Sorry, Johnny, you have yet to gain one speck of approval from me until you start acting your age and get a little more tolerant. Lyric of the Day (read this one VERY carefully): Somewhere there I lost my way, everyone walks the same, expecting me to step the narrow path they lay, they claim to walk unafraid, I'll be clumsy instead...take care, everyone!

Instead of focusing on our domestic safety in this country and the fight against terrorism, Ashcroft is busy wasting his time and probably our tax dollars going after a few harmless, terminally ill people in Oregon who happen to use marijuana for medicinal purposes. Who are they hurting, and why is he harrassing them when our country is in crisis? Can we please prioritize and stick with what is really important. Why do some people feel the need to control others and tell them how to live; especially when those people aren't bothering anyone.

"A man of great integrity, a man of great judgment and a man who knows the law," ~ President George W. Bush Knock him if you will – and of course, many have and will continue to regardless of any good he might do. But, like our current president, Ashcroft is more than likely the right man for this difficult time in America. A stroke of luck or divine providence? You decide. The main thing is there are a lot of extreme liberals out there who will never even realize just how fortunate we are to have just such a man currently occupying this position. We could be so much worse off.

Okay all you righteous Constitution waving states rights right wingers, where are you as Ashcroft systematically trashes the Bill of Rights and attempts to impose his views upon individual state laws. If you support this frightening man based upon a single issue (such as the right to life or the right to bear arms) you are as shameless as he is. The good people of the great state of Missouri know John Ashcroft well, and elected a dead man to the Senate over him. "They say you can't legislate morality. The Hell I can't."

John Ashcroft is a conservative man who follows his deeply-held religious beliefs through to the end. However, I do not agree with his political beliefs, and how can someone who advocated the death penalty for McVeigh and allowed it to happen reconcile this act with his stated Christian tenets of forgiveness and grace? For someone who professes that abortion is the taking of a life and therefore should not be done, how does that square with his pro-death penalty, eye-for-an-eye stance?

This maybe an unpopular opinion but I have to commend Ashcroft for his decision to postpone the McVeigh execution. I realize that many want this animal out of our society; I am one myself. However, what if these latest FBI documents really have some additional evidence that McVeigh had others helping him, others that are still out there and have not been brought to justice. He maybe the only key to unlocking that potential puzzle. McVeigh is not going anywhere and he will soon be dead and gone. In the mean time, if we can bring in any others that were his accomplices, lets bring them in to join him in his final fate. I am a supporter of the death penalty, but I am a bigger supporter of justice, lets get them all. More importantly, we must all live knowing he is the right man and we did all we could to capture everyone involved. I would hate to wake up 15 years from now to find out some document the Government bungled around with proved the real criminals were never brought to justice. I heard a lot of people especially Christians say Ashcroft should not have been criticized for his beliefs the way he was. I had a different view, I said bring on the attacks, lets see if he can stand the test of fire before he takes office not after. I am certainly glad to see that Ashcroft’s beliefs and convictions were firm and unwavering during his trial by fire from liberal America. If he had made even the slightest shift to the left I would have said get him out of there. Instead, he stayed steadfast and firm, now I say bring on the attacks. His decision to postpone the execution was one made with head and heart knowledge. To have moved forward with the current arrangements with these new documents surfacing would have been one of vindication not logic and legal processing.

I watched almost all the Senate hearings on John Ashcroft. I have concluded that while I wouldn't mind this man to be my neighbor or a friend (I have several friends just like him), I do not think he'll be able to enforce those laws which he finds personally offensive. How can he? I don't see how he can turn off his beliefs like a faucet. While Ashcroft does not appear to be a racist, he does at times appear to closely follow his own agenda (which is based on his strong religious beliefs). There is no room at the Attorney General's office for such rigidity. His very job is to protect those in our society who still face persecution and discrimination. Reading through these comments, I find many who profess to hold Christian beliefs acting in a decidedly un-Christian like manner, which only enforces my fear that Ashcroft may act the same. ***As an aside, Democrats do not hold the market on sleazy activities...or have some of your forgotten Watergate, Iran-Contragate, Newt Gingrich, Bob Livingstone, and Bob Packwood, etc??***

Any person with opinions and belief that will do nothing but bring a country backwards in its development should not be in a position of power. I truely fear the effects Ashcrofts politics will have on this country. The rest of the world is looking our way shaking their heads in disbelief - whereas they are moving forward towards freedom - of choice, of speech - towards equality of genders - towards tolerance and understanding - we choose to step back in time towards separation and prejudice. '- and justice for all' Someone said. Sad - that's what I say.

All the fuss the Democrats made over the confirmation of John Ashcroft as Attorney General can be attributed to them being afraid that someone with intestinal fortitude will be running the Justice Department. Someone who will not be afraid to investigate the shenanigans of the democratic party. Unlike Janet Reno, who as Clinton's patsy overlooked the criminal mischief that occurred during the Clinton administration, you can be sure that John Ashcroft will not let the Democrats get off easy when they pull their inexcusable acts of filth in order to acheive their agenda. To them, the ends justifies the means. To Ashcroft, true justice will prevail.

John Ashcroft- what a hero, putting up with all this b. S. just because he doesn't believe in killing babies before they are even born and supposedly being a racist. And besides, everyone has a right to an opinion, just because he believes in conservative ideals doesn't mean he won't enforce existing laws that go against his ideas. Democrats say he is a hardcore religious man and too religious for the country. Hmm... Racist and being a hardcore religious, Christian man at the same time- Democrats are so good at coming up with these perfectly matching combinations.

Abichara1882, As for the drug companies - there is so much money wasted on advertising and the seduction of doctors that it is absolutely obscene! It is important to have gov. regulations on the drug companies for all of our safety. Does this cost the companies money? Well yes it does. But the regulation is VERY needed. I have no sympathy for the drug companies and no tolerance for the ways they WASTE money every minute of every day. I am a nurse and I have participated in numerous clinical trials. Trust me, very big bucks are being spent in truely wasteful ways. The regulatory agencies are not to blame

I didn't want to see Ashcroft as President (he was briefly a candidate), but I expect he will be an outstanding attorney general, where fairness and incorruptibility are the essential qualities. Seeing Ted Kennedy and the Left's more rabid interest groups paint Ashcroft as a wacko is truly shameful, and a big insult to the judgment of the very moderate state of Missouri where he was attorney general, governor and senator. Scary that to avoid the tag of "racist" these days, you can't be critical of any individuals of certain races. After all, Ashcroft voted to confirm 28 of 30 black judicial appointees, but his rejection of one is used as evidence of his so-called intolerance. More evidence that the Left is morally bankrupt...

Mr. John Ashcroft truly a man of God. I read Ms. Schremp comments and I must say that if you are a true born again, believing that Jesus Christ is Lord, He died for you sins and God raised Him from the dead; I truly don't understand how you believe the way you do. The Bible calls us to obey the Word of God, live by the Word and walk the walk and talk the talk. I agree that we all fall short of the glory of God, but we shouldn't compromise the Word of God. As a Christian, where do you come off claiming that you have rights, slandering another Christian. As Christians, when we fight and slander other Christians, how can we reach out to the Lost. Our place here as believers is to support other Christians according to the Word of God and to pray for them when they stray, we are not to slander them, say unkind things about them. I have a hard time when I hear anyone say that they are a Christian and on the same note say that they are pro-choice. Life begins at conception, please read your Bible and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you into all truth. I believe it is time for America to get back its moral values and reputation. We are a blessed nation but if even those who say they are born again Christians and believe like the world, then we are in great trouble. I pray that you will truly seek the Lord in prayer and retract the statements you made about one of His children. The Bible calls us never to slander one another, those who are in Jesus Christ. About Ronnie White, even he said that Ashcroft is not a racist. About Bob Jones university, some take hold to some very legalistic views, but God will deal with them in that area, does that mean that they are not Christians? If I were you and thank God I am not, I will not mess with God by slandering His true children. Jesus said," you will know my sheep by their fruits" and I have no doubt that John Ascroft and President Bush are Christians. Please know that I am not fighting with you but simply sharing with you as another Christian how we need to be careful in slandering those that in Christ. My pray is for you as well as myself and those are in Jesus Christ that we will put away the things of the world, pray for those who are lost so that they will come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, pray for another, build each other up and be obedient to the calling of God.

The reason the Democrats don't want Ashcroft as Attorney General is they KNOW he will uphold the law and they are AFRAID he will find something against them and make them pay the cost for the illegal manuverings and cover-ups. I hope he doesn't let up on all the corruption that went along with the Clinton Administration. First thing he should do is find out why Jesse Jackson does not have to pay any income tax.

I live in Missouri and John Ashcroft has left this state in a mess. Even though we had federal laws banning segration, he stalled this state with endless law suits to stop it. He did his dead level best to prevent Missouri women their right to choice, even getting all state aid cut to help women of lesser means. He has personaly and publicly defamed one of esteem jurist, Judge Ronnie White, on the floor of the senate, he could have done this in committee privately. You ask him why? Why was he a friend of Bob Jones University? They support his racist views. I am Christian too and I am ashamed of this man. He will not speak for me or represent my ideals. He is a extremist and fanatic. My earnest prayer is he never becomes our attorney general. He is unfit and extremely dangerous man. Check his record, I have and it is dismal.

007girl should read what God Himself has to say about homosexuality. She should also read what God has to say about passing judgement before condemning God-fearing people to "burn in hell". Evidently, she has never opened the Book.Nobody can better represent any people than one who knows and abides by the Highest Law - which is what our country was founded upon.

Former Senator Ashcroft presents a frightening possibility as Attorney General. His extremist views on certain key issues including abortion, affirmative action, and gun control present a very real conflict if he is to hold the position as chief law enforcement officer. While the moral character of the man is not being called into question, his ability to execute his office in an unbiased fashion is. The broad coalition of groups that is forming to prevent his confirmation demonstrates how far off he is from moderate America.

It seems in our country anymore it is looked down upon to have a religious affiliation, or say I believe in God, or I believe in the bible. I am amazed everyday by it. We have the chance to have a man who believes in God, will follow the laws of the land and of his religious views. They can work together. After all, was'nt our country founded upon religious principles. It gave us the freedom we have today. Of course we are not as free as we use to be. We are not even free to think. If we think abortion is wrong we are looked down upon. If we feel being gay is unnatural, we are looked down upon. If we follow the laws of the bible the best we can, we are looked down upon. John Ashcroft has very high morals and principles. I am proud to have a President with such principles, and I am proud to have an Attorney General with such principles. It is so refreshing compared to what we have had for the last 8 years. It is in total contrast. Their is not one person that I have heard that has not said he was a fine man. They just dont believe in his beliefs. Well welcome to America. We dont all have to think alike. He has his rights as much as Janet Reno. What did she prove to be? Stick with it Mr. Ashcroft and dont be intimidated by the extreme leftists, who do not have morals.
