As I get older, my taste in music evolves. From my teens onward, my favorite artists were Black Sabbath --> Pink Floyd --> Tom Waits --> Jethro Tull. I still like Tull, but after listening to the same albums about 20 times I need to move on. I think I'll buy a couple of Moody CDs (from the late 60s early 70s) from when they were in their prime. I don't think I'll buy any stuff from the 80s though, from the stuff I listened to on Youtube, 80s Moodies is HORRID. In fairness, many great artists from the 70s also recorded crap in the 80s--without a doubt the worst decade in the history of music.

I remember their concerts selling out in record time in the early 70's. Their new releases were events played on FM radio stations across the nation. The Hall has no cred!

Excuse me "Rock And Roll Hall of Fame." Didn't I read many times that "The Moody Blues" sold over 50 million records? Of the original seven concept albums, on the strength of these four alone, "Days of Future Passed," "In Search of The Lost Chord," "On The Threshold of a Dream," and "To Our Childrens Childrens Children" aren't those enough to get them in. Grame Edge once said when referring to Justin Hayward's name being pulled first out of sack full of mail given by Eric Burdon to replace Denny Laine, "Talk about putting in your thumb and pulling out a plumb eh!" Justin Hayward, "The Voice" of the Moodies is one of the worlds most underrated singer/songwriters. I take exception to someone referring to "Nights in White Satin" as being the only noteable song they ever did. That's a bunch of horseshit. I've seen them in concert twice in my life time, and even with the few replacements to the band, the majesty, magic, and fairy dust is still working for this timeless group. Wake up Hall of Fame! People will fall asleep at their exhibit if it's in the museum.

http://www.amazon.com/tag/classic%20rock/ref=tag_cl d_cl_itdp_t_5 The site below seriously needs some new voices about the subject of classic rock. Will you help? Please don't mind if some of the folks there seem a little bitter. The comments on this site are great and we could use some of that there. The forum starts below the row of CD cover pictures go to the first and second pages they have questions re: the Hall of Fame. Thank you

The Moody Blues made FM radio necessary.
grinztunes 07/24/2007
No good deed goes unpunished. And so it goes with the Moody Blues. That the Grateful Dead -- a one-hit wonder with a cult following -- are in before so many other much more successful and influential artists belies the Hall's ridiculous bias. The Hall has no credibility; induction only a hollow honor.
sixtorules 06/13/2007
A couple of facts: 1) They were the progenitors of progressive rock. There would be no Genesis. no Yes. no King Crimson. no ELP without the Moody Blues. 2) There music has been taken to space on more NASA missions than any other. 3) They produced top 10 albums in the 60s, 70s, 80s and even 90s. 4) They are one of the few who survived. If they had died in a plane crash they would be in. 5)Some of their music sucked and some was very pretentios. It is for this reason that the new York mafia that runs the Hall of Fame keeps them out and lets Billy Joel, Steely dan, Del shannon and Percy Sledge in. It is also the Rolling Stone bias against them
isabellaO 04/21/2007
Ahead of their time in their use of the sitar, moog synthesizer, classical orchestral backup, jazz and folk influenced rock. Should have been inducted years ago. Longevity and number of albums over the years, as well as top singles for the past 30 years.
WuzUp 03/27/2007
FOR SURE, but after DEEP PURPLE
Notginger 03/19/2007
Must be in RnR Hall of Fame in 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lcr1955 03/18/2007
With a unique, creative musical style that is all their own, plus their admirable longevity and a strong, loving legion of fans, it is an absolute farce The Moody Blues are not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Other acts that I have NEVER heard of are in the hall (Solomon Bruce, Ruth Brown, Lavern Baker, Jimmy Reed, Little Willie John, and others), and it is considered these artists accomplished more than the Moodies?? It is an absolute joke! This honor for them is LONG overdue. Other acts also very deserving include Chicago, Tommy James & The Shondells, and Paul Revere and the Raiders. Thanks for your time!
ajowoods 02/21/2007
Very iffy credentials besides "Nights In White Satin" (their next top 10 came 14 years later) and their series of concept albums in the 60's. I can't put them in unless many others get in first.
julienbenney 02/14/2007
Really, I hasten to add, the Moody Blues famous hit "Nights in White Satin" has always sounded soppy. I do recallt their comeback with "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" in 1988 when I collected lists of hit singles from the Green Guide, but if my (notoriously bad) memory is accurate it was stereotyped '80s pop that I then loved but have succumbed ot criticism by the likes of Joe S. Harrington.
Lee1955 02/11/2007
It's an absolute joke this legendary band isn't in the R & R Hall of fame already!!
glinden 01/29/2007
A Joke That They're Not in the R&R Hall Of Shame. They deserve special selection with Procol Harum and the Dave Clark 5.
phisheye 01/24/2007
It's a shame the Moodies havn't been inducted to the Rock & Roll hall of fame. The first seven albums alone are enough. Longevity anyone? It's a Question the logic. Isn't Life Strange? I'm Just A Singer In A Rock And Roll Band. The Story In Your Eyes says Every Good Boy Deserves Favour. I guess It's in Your Wildest Dreams that the moodies will end up in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Shame.
kingguiness 12/26/2006
Im chnaging my rating from a few years ago. I was a little too harsh. The Moody Blues definitely made some superb songs that I enjoy. But, through the course of their career they settled into a pattern of overly intellectual music that really only appealed to a certain clique of people.
lakesidebluewa terglades 11/19/2006
Notwithstanding the ludicrous assumption of the last but one poster before me, that only serves to highlight his lack of musical knowledge and awareness, the fact that one of the greatest and most influential bands of all-time is not in the RRHoF is beyond ridiculous.
a1m1s1 11/19/2006
Without a doubt, it's to the HoF's embarrassment that this band have not been in there for a long time now and to their even greater shame that thankks to pettiness of a woman full of her own importance but who would have a hard time being picked out in a line-up, they are unlikely ever to be. Hang your head, woman - you know who you are (even if no one else but your mother does!).
Limpin' Trenchfoot 11/17/2006
They only thing they're really known for is 'Nights in white satin'. If you can credit them with pioneering the prog scene that's damning with faint praise as prog has always been one of the most universally despised genres with niche appeal. I'd sooner see Billy Ray Cyrus get in than them
tmadigan77 11/10/2006
They are hall-of famers!!!
jmfay111 09/08/2006
Symphonic-Rock Masters! Nobody else comes close!
71MoodyBlues 08/16/2006
Has anyone else heard that there is one idiot who continues to blackball the Moodies for Hall of Fame induction?
afterflakes 08/08/2006
they added another dimension to music with their orchestration combined with traditional beats of rock music and made us love the ballad once again. they have been on every NASA flight into space as they like no other can introduce the other worldliness of the wonders of space and breathtaking vistas unseen by the human race. THEY BELONG IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME!
TCA 07/13/2006
The Moodies define the phrase, classic rock, maybe if they had been more self promoting over the years, which they are not, they would be in the hall. This group defines the word class, and if I were them .I wouldn`t worry about being excluded, to many they are already in!
luvspizzadoyou 03/23/2006
If for no other reason than longevity, the Moody Blues deserve induction into the RRHOF. Merging orchestral arrangements with rock music, with ample helpings of synthesizer thrown in, and then having all the tracks conform to a unifying theme-- that truly was a trend breaker in the late 60's. But to go on to a meteoric comeback in the early 80's and attract a whole new fan base, and to persevere with live concerts to the present time-- over 40 years since their 1964 beginnings-- with an estimated 80 million records sold worldwide--- come on folks, don't they deserve a little credit by now for being such loyal soldiers for the cause of rock 'n roll?
koozemano 03/22/2006
A huge influence in the whole Progressive Rock Era. I'm surprised they have been overlooked, but so have most other bands like them, except for maybe Pink Floyd.
chrisr777 03/14/2006
Progresive rock would not exist without this band.
doobiesNhof 03/14/2006
Are you kidding me?! Blondie gets in before The Moody Blues? The RRHF is making themselves look like a sham. The Moody Blues did songs like: 'Go Now', 'Tuesday Afternoon', 'Nights In White Satin', 'I'm Just A Singer In A Rock and Roll Band' and 'The Voice'. I'm just sick in this development.
marto 03/12/2006
not really that good
steve 47 02/25/2006
If the Sex Pistols can get inducted into the hall of fame and the Modoies aren't, there is something wrong with this organization. The Moodies concerts are mesmerizing and memorable. Justin Hayward can play the guitar with the best of the past. There original 7 albums alone are a breakthrough sound in concept rock. Vote them in!!!
abacab 01/16/2006
I don't understand why they aren't in. They created their own unique sound, had a long string of hits, and continue to put on an excellent show to this day. What's missing in their resume?
AmazingEEE 12/03/2005
Rmorehead wrote: "Invented the concept album (Days of Future Past) and continued its use for most of their career." You need to read up on music history my friend. The Moodies were at least a decade too late to "invent" the concept album. They are still a very deserving artist... Though I'd stop short of saying they invented prog rock, along with King Crimson they deserve the bulk of the credit for influencing that genre... They also had a handful of great pop hits, and one day should probably get in... But they aren't one of the Hall's worst exclusions...
djdavem 12/01/2005
Rmorehead, you couldn't have said it any better.
rmorehead 12/01/2005
Let's see: • Invented the concept album (Days of Future Past) and continued its use for most of their career. • Introduced symphonic music to rock and roll. • Multiple platinum albums. • Influenced progressive rock bands that followed. There is no rational explanation for the Moodies not having been inducted when they became eligible in 1989. Their continued exclusion is a travesty.
vwxg14a 10/26/2005
Obviously with the exception of Pink Floyd, none of the Prog Rock groups will be inducted. It's a shame though, because ELP, Yes, Peter Gabriel (not Phil Collins or Genesis), and Jethro Tull will get in any time soon. The Moody Blues were the best of the lot and had a great comeback album in Long Distance Voyager. Arguably some of their songs are sappy, but for the most part they have created 2 of the greatest rock songs (Tuesday Afternoon and Nights in White Satin) ever.
sfalconer 10/21/2005
A terrible predictable sound with very little imagination. If you get to be in the hall for hanging on to long they should make it in very soon. If they ever have an elevator music hall of fame these guys will make it into the first induction event.
Gianthogweed 10/19/2005
These guys took what the Beatles did in Sgt. Pepper one step further and created a genre that paved the way for prog bands like King Crimson and Pink Floyd. Should have been in over a decade ago.
thylacine 10/01/2005
i don't know that much about them, but i just assumed they were in already, not a huge fan, but i think they are deserving
BCARVER 09/09/2005
UNIQUE STYLE,LOTS OF GOOD SONGS AND ALBUMS,PLAY WITH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA WHICH GAVE ROCK SOME CLASS AS WELL AS CLASSICAL,THEY CONTINUE TO THRIVE WELL OVER 30 YEARS FROM WHEN THEY BEGAN------HELL, THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN INDUCTED AS SOON AS THEY WERE ELIGIBLE!
packguy 08/18/2005
They should have been voted in long ago.
marthahalvorse n 05/18/2005
About three years ago, I thought The Moodies were already one of the first legendary rock bands to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame...I can't believe they haven't been honored...Sad, isn't it?...They're truly deserving of it and should be considered for the 2006 induction!!! Kati/05.
deves 05/18/2005
Good Sixties band, like some of their albums. The knock on the door of The Hall, but I don't let them in.
Dbaf 05/10/2005
one of the most unique sounds in rock and roll but theres more bands I would like to see in before them
SierraMan 05/08/2005
Innovators. Longevity. Style. Class. Beautiful music. Depth. Those great songs. They are Just Singers in a Rock and Roll Band, but no longer in Search of the Lost Chord. The MOODY BLUES!
journey2006 05/06/2005
They Only had like one good song.
SonicDeath10 04/19/2005
I can't believe they aren't already. They are very predicable, I'll agree: and not influential. But their first seven albums have enough amazing songs on them to be considered, I think.
Elle13 04/14/2005
Definitely deserving of the Hall of Fame (they're probably too good for it).
mapiper 03/30/2005
The Bloody Mews are so-so. So much of their work bores me to tears, and the vocals definitely grate on my ears.
