This idea that the Rock Hall is just for rock musicians is a fallacy. Two of the first artist in were R&B artist: James Brown and Aretha Frankln. This year ABBA got in. It's ridiculous that BW isn't in when groups like that are in. Is ABBA a "rock" act? Since Black music is the basis of rock music where is the line between rock and soul? Is Steely Dan a rock act? Hell Run-DMC got in before Barry White. Come on!!!

One of the most prolific and gifted Black singer/songwriter/composers to ever live. He was able to harmniously blend classical instrumental sound with the traditional R&B. His works were inspiration to millions worldwide. This man has not been given his proper respect. When the world lost this artist it lost a irreplacable musical icon. Luther Vandross was very good, Smokey Robinson is well respected. Neither, in my opinion, has the total musiacl talents of Barry White.

Very unique artist. Certainly deserves to be in. There are obviously very few soul/funk/R&B fans on this site.

He is a shoo in for an R and B HOF but in the broad general overview of rock he was an influence and his voice serves as a natural aphrodisiac for women everywhere.

I like Barry real well, but he would fall into Soul or R&B wouldn't he?
