Why are they not in. Induct Yes before artists like Rush and Kiss
garydavis9361 02/24/2007
As talented a group as has ever been assembled, I would nevertheless leave them out an account that they could not transcend their era and change with the times artistically (though commercially they made a comeback with their 90125 LP).
jrob1991 02/12/2007
One of the great progressive art rock bands of all time. Classically trained musicians who blended great music, song writing abilities and the great awesome voice of Jon Anderson. Need I say more. Put this bank in the rock and roll hall of fame.
Peekr 02/07/2007
Who's voting for this HOF? Paula Abdul? Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Tom Petty, Pedophile Michael...please. Here are two good reasons Yes should be in (there are many more): 1) The opening notes on Roundabout are as recognizable as any song in rock and roll. 2) Yes' lineup in 1972 is today's Yes lineup. Through its many personnel changes, the friendship and collaboration of Chris, Jon, Steve, Alan and Rick has endured and thrived into the 21st Century.
dr1 02/04/2007
The fact that Yes are not in the HOF tells you more about the HOF than Yes.
bobga 01/30/2007
These guys should already be in. I understand that much of this music is not mainstream, but the band crossed over with hits like All Good People, Starship Trooper, Roundabout, Long Distance Runaround, Owner of a Lonely Heart, etc. Moreover, for an institution that values the influence a band and it's members have - how can one ignore Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman and Bill Bruford for their influence on their respective intstruments. How can one ignore the contributions of Trevor Horn and Trevor Rabin in production and movie soundtracks. Finally, in terms of influence, we can argue which artist and track best epitomises progressive rock, but on anyone's list, Close to the Edge is close to the top.

Yes in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? Too Progressive! No big deal if not. I would hate to see ‘Yes’ next to some weird punker or gangster rapper. Just remember it's all about the music! What are they going to say about YES? "Umm- yeah, then YES came along and we all knew they play better than we do." "YES opened for us in 1972 and our fans wanted them to come back onstage instead of us." "There was a reason YES sold out a record 16 shows at Madison Square Garden in NYC in less than 10 years. They could draw more than we could." "Michael Jackson held the #1 spot in 1984 until YES came along with 90125. None of us were able to do the same thing." "I wanted the Reader's Poll 'Best Guitarist' award, but Steve Howe kept winning it over and over, year after year." "Every time we turned our heads, YES were paving the way in technology, stage craft (elaborate sets and "In The Round"), and innovation. We were just trying to keep up." "We sucked at our instruments, so we just turned up the distortion, played really loud and fast so nobody could tell the difference, and slammed YES in the press. YES never slammed our punk sound. They just infused it into their own." Face it- YES is too intimidating. I'm in Cleveland quite often, but I've only been to the rock hall once. Mostly because their displays suck and it costs and arm and a leg to get in. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to visit it unless Yes gets in. Yes--13 Gold, 8 Platinum, 2 Multi-Platinum The Talking Heads--8 Gold, 3 Platinum, 2 Multi-Platinum George Harrison--9 Gold, 2 Platinum, and 1 Multi-Platinum The Ramones--1 Gold, 0 Platinum, and 0 Multi-Platinum Go figure!

Drama is a very nice album, I heard it in the 80's and still held up as great music from Yes. This great prog. rock . Very insane, that they are not in yet.
lion in winter 01/13/2007
'Yes' which despite its numerous critics has produced progressive music of substance and longevity. 'Starship Trooper' remains one of my favorite songs of all time- while 'And You and I' and 'Siberian Khatru' are timeless classics as well. Over the years the band has produced some misses-but by in large, their work is far above much of the crap done today.
presto28 01/12/2007
Some great, a lot of good, but fizzled badly. Still should be in on musicianship alone (something the Hall apparently cares nothing about).
garjen55 01/12/2007
It's interesting - this list had Lynyrd Skynyrd listed #1 last year when they were finally inducted and Van Halen was #1 this year when they announced for induction. So, which band will be #1 next year? Yes, Rush, The Cars or Chicago? I would definitely say that Yes needs to be in the Hall to give it a little more credibility.
Kelticman 01/12/2007
I saw YES play during the 70s. Superb musicians who produced great albums such as The Yes Album, Fragile, Close To The Edge and Relayer. A seminal progressive rock band who are very much deserving of a place in the music hall of fame - even if they did make a major faux pas in 1980, by recruiting former Buggles frontman, Trevor Horn, to replace singer Jon Anderson.
delboywww 01/11/2007
About time the greatest band of all got recognised in the Hall of Fame. Del
Priz 01/11/2007
Their music stands alone and is magical.
deelovesyes 01/11/2007
They need to be inducted
totalmass 01/11/2007
Coming up to their 40th Anniversary (2008) and STILL performing the most complex, inspiring music!
larrylive 01/10/2007
I would have thought they were there already.
JonAnderson901 25 01/10/2007
They are progressive rock. No one did as much for music in the early 70s as YES did to truely push the bounds and expand the realm of what was rock and roll into something so big and amazing that it became a moving expierence to listen to one of thier songs. Yes was able to break down the boundaries of contemporary rockers and be pioneers of music. Instead of copying a style, or being a style, they made a style of music. Not only that but they have continued on today lasting longer than any other rock band out there with the exception of the Stones. And even the Stones need to hang it up while YES, with special regards to Jon Anderson, have gotten better with age and have never sounded as tight on stage.
Timeandaword 01/10/2007
Cause they are simply the best !!!!
gmen1991 01/10/2007
This band should have been inducted in 1993, 25 yrs. after their first album. It's sickening to read the list of inductees and not see YES on it. All this tells me is that musicianship is not considered for induction. These five musical virtuosos have more talent than half the current inductees combined!
keven101 01/09/2007
to create the sound and unique musical experiencethat wakeman, howe, squire and buford and others, and not be in the hall is a travisty
bhurley 01/09/2007
They were the ones with Genesis and ELP that composed and always had great musicians and took early english rock tho a new level. They should be there
Relayer56 01/09/2007
These guys were at the top of the Progressive Rock community for years, have been making music for over 35 years and have not been admitted. That's a travisty!
Seenallgoodpeo ple 01/08/2007
It is insane that Yes is not in the Rock and Roll HoF. The lineup is legendary. Easily one of the 3 or 4 power bands of the 70s with a list of rock standards, it is mind-blowing that they haven't been recognized.
ianis6 12/26/2006
I was highly disappointed when I saw Yes wasnt in the hall of fame. I could go on about their musicianship & influence, but everything has just about been covered by others. But when I saw my top 3 bands, Yes,Rush & Doobie Brothers not in. It all made sense to me & I'll breathe a sigh of relief. This pidley r-r halll of hacks doesn't deserve exellence by the look of who's in!
reissfamily 12/05/2006
It's ridiculous that Yes is not inducted but the coasters are. I mean there not even serious performers. Their most well known songs are novelty records for crying out loud!Critisize Yes for taking their music too seriously but who else has defined a genre for over 35 years?
a1m1s1 11/19/2006
OK in some incarnations and for some periods of their career. Jon Anderson has a great voice.
Limpin' Trenchfoot 11/17/2006
If you can let in a band just because it's a pioneer in a niche genre why not allow in the movers and shakers on the Tibetan nose flute scene? someone metioned Yes in the same breath as Zep, Sabbath and Floyd. While I dont like any of these, I accept that they're hugely famous, successful and influential. Yes hasn't had anywhere near the same impact.
boromax 07/18/2006
Pardon my irrepressible eloquence, but, um... DOH!
yesmonkee 07/07/2006
Blondie gets in the R&R Hall of Fame, and Yes does not.... Ya - THAT makes sense! And of all the things Yes has been called - One Hit Wonder?!?!?! WTF! No Rush either.... Both a travesty. The Beastie Boys gonna be next?
july07 07/07/2006
Everyone know "Roundabout" and "I've Seen All Good People", but I wonder how many rock fans out there haven't heard classic songs like "Yours is no Disgrace", "And You and I" and "Starship Trooper". Yes missing from the R&R HoF makes the HoF look rediculous.
amays 04/17/2006
They are still considered relevant, when many of they're contompararies are gone. Wrote great music, even in the 80's and 90's.
YesMan56 03/22/2006
They deserve to be among the greats for they are great themselves.
koozemano 03/22/2006
How Yes could be over looked is a travesty. Who are the supposed "Rock Experts" who are responsible for who gets in the RRHOF or not. This reminds me of the also lame way academy awards are handed out. Yes has been around forever and certainly the ultimate Prog Rock band. It seems like the voters completely forgot about this form of Rock and Roll. Where are the Moody Blues, ELP, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Genesis, and Kansas, just to name a few. How Blondie or the Sex Pistols get in before some these bands is sacrilegious.
colsamdan 03/18/2006
Those who rate Yes poorly are missing the point. It's not whether or not you "get" Yes music. The question is, are they worthy for induction? There are plenty of bands in the HOF that I do not personally care for, but I believe they should be there because of the influence their music had on millions of fans and the industry itself. You don't like Yes music? Fine. It's perfectly acceptable to give a band a 5-rating along with the comment "Yes music isn't for me, but they deserve induction." As a side bar, in 2004 I saw Yes perform in front of a packed house at Madison Square Garden. At one point during "And You And I" the ovation was so loud that the band was unable to finish the song. For a band in its 36th year to receive such a response is impressive, like it or not.
StaberDearth 03/13/2006
Yes - an originator of the prog rock format with staying power and a large still active following. Marto..you again? Not a kick arse rock group? Take a look at some of what has already been inducted into the Hall? hmmm....
djdavem 03/12/2006
Yes, absolutely. Why "no"?
lovemusic 02/26/2006
Whether you like their music or not, there is no arguing there influence. There is very little in the rock music industry that they either didn't do first, or they helped refine. Accomplishments like Fragile and Close to the Edge couldn't even be conceived by Blondie and some of the other garage bands already in the HOF.
weirdharold211 2 02/03/2006
Not that Progressive Rock is ever going to be recognized as a valid music form by the herd-mentality of most casual music fans and critics in general, but Yes is one of the originators... and one of the best.
Lakme 12/22/2005
YES are a seminal group, perhaps the seminal group,in the progression of rock music embracing other genres. They are also a collection of the most talented musicians in rock, especially the classic Anderson/Squire/Howe/Wakeman/Bruford line-up.No group in rock was ever more capable of such sublime complexity, while still keeping the music focussed(most of the time)."Close To The Edge",both the song cycle and the entire album, are exemplary of this. To the moron who said they are "soulless", you obviously haven't listened to the music, perhaps you have them confused with Kraftwerk, who truly were soulless, and meant to be. But then you probably don't,as you've probably never listened to anything more esoteric than Aerosmith-starting from their "comeback" era,at that. YES were always able to be inventive and virtuoso, while still remianing accessible(unlike some prog rock groups who shall remain nameless). Induct YES already! If nothing else(and there's plenty else),they had between them more musicianship than any 20 arena-rock bands.
thisismyuserna me 12/04/2005
Not much to say except for that they should have been in a long time ago. How does Blondie get in before them? What are they smoking down in the HoF?
Russell4344 12/02/2005
They were one of the 4 pillars of 70s rock along with Sabbath, Zeppelin and Floyd. Go Yes!
divaman 11/29/2005
Should definitely already be in.
Habs10 11/29/2005
this is one I'm going for (in a roundabout way...)
Diamond Dave 11/27/2005
Yes, they had a ton of great songs in the late 1960's and 1970's. The crap started to come out in the 80's and beyond. They were very strong in the early(Threshold label) years
klsm54 10/22/2005
Can't believe they aren't in there already. Innovative, revolutionary,...AND....did I forget... TALENTED. Great Guitar....Gotta be there if the hall is to have credibility.
Gianthogweed 10/19/2005
Definitely should already be in. Anderson/Bruford/Wakeman/Howe/Squire was probably the most talented lineup of rock musicians ever assembled.
dwind2003 10/12/2005
Put Yes Into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Because They Are The First Progessive Rock Groups Since Moody Blues.
JJ-UK 10/09/2005
Of course they should be there if the name of the RR HOF is to be believed. Trouble is of course, it's all about money rather than accuracy. Even if you don't like Yes, they should be in...!
