I watched this movie with Hank in Gainesville and hated it. Then, Hank's brother Scott began quoting lines from the movie and I realized how hilarious it is: "How much you wanna make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains?"

This was a wonderful movie. I saw it with my 15 yr old daughter and couldn't stop laughing! The characters are wonderful. It is very refreshing without the usual violence and gratuitous sex scenes. Teenagers will love it, at least mine did. I may go see it again, I hear I missed something when I left during the end credits. Even from the opening credits, it was so creative and fun. I could not stop laughing at the theatre from the moment this movie started. I was with my teenaged daughter who liked it too, but I think she was a little embarrassed that I was laughing out loud so much. And I almost never do that at movies. I have seen it again with my husband, but he just didn't seem to 'get it', except that he liked Uncle Ricco. Kip just cracked me up "don't be jealous because I've been chatting online with babes". I just bought it so I have to watch it again!!!

I hated this movie when I first saw it. I told myself that this movie was the stupidest thing I'd ever seen. I didn't get the humor, or lack of it.......and the whole story was lame. But then I decided to give it another chance....and another. And each time I watched, I felt these characters really growing on me. Now it is one of my favorite movies. These characters became so loveable that I couldn't wait to watch it again and again.

I can't explain, for the life of me, what it was about this movie that made it so infectiously charming: the actors read their scripts in such a way, that would lead you to believe, that they had been shot with a tranquilizer dart prior to filming; the whole set was muddy, dreary, out-moded, depressing in appearence, and harkened back to a time when pastels, wood-paneling, and vomit-colored shag carpeting represented the pinnacle of Working Class achievements. And the script seemed tedious, pretetious, poorly-focused and lacking in anything resembling comic timing....all of the infrastructures were in place for me to hate this movie, but for some reason...it worked for me. Perhaps it was because I was witnessing a new standard of human-lameness that I never thought was possible before - Napoleon, his brother Kip, and the scene-stealing uncle were so shockingly uncool, you couldn't help but watch in bewilderment at their mouth-breathing antics: the uncle reliving his glory-days as a wannabe quarterback outside of the van he happened to be living in. Napoleon, while helping his freind Pedro run for class president, deciding to wow the student body with what appeared to be some sort of jazzercise routine, and Whitebred Kip hooking up with that Soul Sistah he met online, were all surreal moments that defy a proper and cogent description - 4 stars for this weird little ditty....

Yeah, ok. I just don't see what the big deal is. It has some funny moments, but its a pretty poorly made film, and undeserving of the kind of praise its generating. Like some others on here, I'm a little tired of the unending, self-righteous marketing surrounding it as well.

Finally got around to seeing Napoleon Dynamite and I found it to be enjoyably bad - like a funny 10 minute sketch that was somehow dragged into a movie. Not sorry I saw it, several of the characters were pretty funny (especially living in '82 uncle rico), and Jon Heder does a pretty good job - but it's just not a very good movie. The relentless hipper than thou marketing is pretty irritating as well.

Probably one of the funniest films of 2004.

Okay, so this was 2 hours of my life I'll never get back! I'm sorry, I just didn't think this movie was funny at all. I didn't laugh (or even chuckle for that fact) once. It just really didn't appear to have much of a plot. The acting was mediocre...but, to me, it seemed like they weren't familiar w/ their lines or the directing bad or something.

Did I like this movie? Heck, whatdoyouTHINK? You guys are retarded!

was NOT worth the money.

Within the last year this film has garnished praise from countless critics as the best thing for Indie films since sliced bread. So I went to the film confident it would at least be decent, but to my disappointment, my wife and I could barely sit through the thing. A few adjectives that quickly come to mind: dull, empty, juvenile, shallow, meaningless, self-indulgent, meanduring and pretentious. It wasn't like I was trying to learn the meaning of life by going to see this, but I simply found it incredibly unfunny and completely full of itself...the whole time I felt like I was on a hipster twenty-something MTV filmset watching them pretend to shoot a film, rather than a typical film experience. What a waste of 16 bucks.

It's surprising how good a movie can be with withdrawal of emotion.
joshua_01 03/20/2005
this is the most boring movie i seen in my life i dont know why a lot of people like this movie there was no comedy and i almost feel asleep during the movie. if your tired then watch this movie and it will put u to sleep.
CanadaSucks 03/17/2005
I thought this movie was pretty funny. I still laugh when I think of Napoleon throwing the vote button and running away down the hall.

The worst movie I have ever seen in my life. I swear to god it made me dumber. After the first 15 minutes me and my friend looked at each other almost on cue and said out loud What the %@#$ I am still in shock that so many people on this website actually like this no-brain garbage.

I loved this movie,You friggin idiots!

Say what you want, but Jon Heder's 'Napoleon Dynamite' is very funny. What makes this movie so successful isn't so much the interaction of the seemingly cartoonish characters, but more the fact that the perennial underdogs ought to prevail despite the circumstances that should to overwhelm them. And it doesn't hurt that the picture is spliced with unforgettable supporting characters like Uncle Rico and Pedro, who feed about the humor throughout the film. All these make for a hilarious comedy which will bring loads of laughs to all movie-goers.

I don't see why so many people are raving about how funny this movie was.
chadtapp 11/20/2004

LlamaLover350 10/23/2004
The best movie ever besides Forrest Gump! I loved it. Although it's not for everyone, people who enjoy comedy like Monty Python and Garden State will love it! Go Tina the Llama!

Funniest independent film ever.

Seriously, the worst movie of the year. Humor will appeal to those who think bodily functions are funny. Lots of akward moments

With a dearth of family movies out this summer, we took a gamble and took our kids (ages 8 and 10) to it. Though it was PG, there was nothing really objectionable other than they said the word Crap now and then. The movie, kind of a dead-panned Revenge of the Nerds meets Judy Blume set in an Idaho High School, it was surprisingly funny (my wife was in extreme stitiches). Napoleon (played brilliantly by Jon Heder) was hilarious. In fact, each character is delightfully absurd in their own way. I got a kick out of Dietrich Bader (Otto from the Drew Carey Show); he was my favorite as the wacko Sensei, Rex, who taught the lost martial art of Rex Kwon DO. Though I find most Indie films pretentious and way overhyped, not so with Napoleon Dynamite. It's an excellent film.
WarGamefan93 09/06/2004
One of the better independent films. I couldn't stop laughing the first time I saw it, and for no reason! The second time it was just as great. I think only some will appreciate the slow, smart humor.
Autopilot 08/24/2004
