In his post game interview vs. TAMU, he said it was his responsibility for OU's performance, and called for attention to how well Coach Fran prepared his team. Not only is this man a winner, he has class.
Umar Deneb 10/30/2004
Easy conference, it is way overrated.
Kirk Hatch 10/30/2004
Not bad, lucky BCS breaks in 2000, would never beat Miami. Proved he was overrated in 2003 too.
Carol Olack 10/26/2004
The Big-12 is not as good as many think and he has played far less Ranked Teams and loss to them too, if you check the record. Great Staff selection though an coached under Bill Synder of KSU, one of the best.
brianptx2 10/25/2004
awwww man, he's awesome

The comment below must be an upset texas fan. So, he's only got one national championship. He's only been a head coach for six years. He took a program with average talent and made them into a national championship team. Also, how many years before Bobby Bowden won one? As for the whining Stoops is a competitor. He doesn't like to lose, especially the way the Sooners did in the last two games. Going from one of the all time great college teams to losing the last two games in that fashion is upsetting. To say he hasn't really won anything is just plain dumb. He's beaten Texas five straight years. Twice Stoops hung half a hundred. How many times did Switzer accomplished that feat? And look at the coaches previous to Stoops. All fired because they couldn't handle the OU program. Since 1999, Stoops has lost 11 games. And finally, defense wins championships. You even said that Stoops produces stellar defenses. I'd rather have that than a great offense year in and year out. Look at Texas Tech for an example. AND, he's made assistant coaches into college head colleges. Leach, Mangino, and his younger brother are all head coaches in big conferences. Venables and Long will probably get coaching gigs too.

Scandals coming soon.
TheStraightSho oter 09/08/2004
Stoops is a very solid coach, excellent recruiter and a credit to OU. He got off to a fast start there and seems to be maintaining a high level of performance.
Boonta23 09/08/2004
He's got very good command over his kids, and makes them winners. That is the very reason why they (Oklahoma) can recruit so well; kids know they can win here and be part of a great legacy that began before Stoops, but is one that he has continued.
BuddyD 09/02/2004
Great coach. I just wish that Florida or Tampa Bay(Buccaneers) could have stolen him away.
ethopete 08/02/2004
Bob Stoops is a top of the line college coach; but My wuestion is this...With the same talent on both teams would he beat Jim Tressel? Of course not! That is why he only gets 4 stars.
ounavy4me 07/11/2004
Coach Bobby Stoops is a great coach who truely pays attention to detail in every aspect of the game. Thats why he is so successful!
parislion 07/11/2004
Plays the game with guts. Picks out great athletic talent and molds them into a team. Rebuilt pride and tradition and is an honest, no excuse, fun loving, leader; turning boys into men. Should be the prototype for college coach-mentors.
dude727thumper 07/10/2004
Best coach in America!
Stevielew 07/10/2004
He not only knows the game, but knows how to develop great players into superstars and teach good players the techniques to being great players.
missou 07/10/2004
What he has done in the short time he has been at OU is incredible! As the song says, Nobody Does It Better.
DallasOU 07/10/2004
The record speaks for itself on this one!
Billk 07/10/2004
Will end up being the greatest college football coach of all time!
msjohns1@yahoo .com 07/10/2004
Amazing turnaround, fantastic recruiting, candor, and the best program in the country since 2000 along with Miami. Look for #8 this year.
srepoort 07/10/2004
The all around Coach. The administrator, the Field General, the recruiter and the father. It's everything a young man or parent looks for to guide young people. He not only teaches by the example. He lives by the example. Oh and Bill Snyder doesn't even belong on this list. What he did was great, 15 years ago. He plays weak opponents and then is like 1 and 25 against top 10 foes. I could do that. Can we get him removed from this list??
bookerbrian 07/10/2004
It's hard to argue with the turnaround and continued success he has had.
Plaino 07/09/2004
Bob Stoops isn't perfect, but he's as good as there is in college football. He understands that there is more to football than x's and o's, although nobody is better at that. He uses momentum, and creates it better than anybody in the game. When a two point conversion is a good gamble, he doesn't just go for it, but has a plan conceived from great preparation to get it done. He doesn't make many logistical mistakes, and does little things to prepare his team. He exudes confidence and has created an atmosphere where no-nonsense hard work is expected and breeds confidence in his players. He relishes the big game and usually excels in it, as do his players. Yet he keeps the game in perspective. Some have made absurd comments about his performance, but there aren't five schools in the country would woundn't trade their coach for him, and probably none who wouldn't seek him ought if they thought he might be available if they lost their coach. The best in America.

Simply the best

Excellent, man, coach, human being..Class act in victory, and defeat.
sstanton 07/09/2004
Beyond reproach the best coach in the country!
johnboy 07/09/2004
Hands down the best coach in America. Brought a sleeping giant back to the top of the heap and did it in one of the toughest conferences in the land. Outstanding recruiter and strategist. There just is no comparison. 55-11 over first five seasons says it all.
sooner2310 07/09/2004
one classy individual and an even better coach
JustMe405 07/09/2004
Best coach in America, bar none.
jokerSden 07/09/2004
Who can argue with what Stoop's has accomplished in his short time at OU! He brought that program back from the dead.
FireDragon 07/09/2004
in a short time he has accomplished so much !
ouzbt 07/09/2004
Bob Stoops brought pride back to the Sooner state. He is a great coach, great leader, and all-around great person. I happily put his name among the great Bud Wilkinson and the king, Barry Switzer.
jakeob1106 07/09/2004
Stoops is the man!
ragomez 07/09/2004
Every college football team in America is looking for a coach that compares to Bob Stoops. He is the best coach college coach in America hands down. Look for him to win a second national championship in five years and a eigth for OU.
Zac Ben 07/08/2004
All he cares about is himself. I lost a ton of respect for Bob Stoops for how he handled himself in his two straight losses to end last season. First, after getting mauled by a mediocre K-State team, he brazenly and defiantly argued that his team deserved to be in the BCS title game...never mind the fact that every year before last year losing your finale by 5 TD's would get you jack squat, regardless of how perfect you'd been to that point... Second, as his OU team was getting exposed as a paper tiger in the first half v. LSU, Stoops gets into an argument about which team, OU or LSU, has the best defense (based on either scoring or total defense). I mean at that point, Who cares? Stoops made a horse's rear out of himself because his giant ego could not handle the b---- slap he was getting. He is a jerk, despite his obvious coaching skills.
BamaMan 07/06/2004
Bob Stoops is by far the best college in football. He took over a program that was in the lowest point in hits history (3 worst consecutive years, 2 worst overall years in school history) and instantly turned it into a winner, taking OU to the national championship in only his second year...he's competed in the national title game a second time, and came up short to LSU. By all accounts he is a family man, and one of the most solid citizens around. He has done so much for the reputation of college football, acting with class while others are getting caught with strippers, drinking at college fraternity houses, etc. His players are graduating at higher rate than anyone in the Big XII and at a high rate for Division 1 football players. His players stay out of trouble for the most part, with a rare exception here and there (like any other program). And, speaking from personal experience (going to a game at OU and having OU come to our home stadium this past season), OU has some of the nicest and classiest football fans going...I heard from some friends who are LSU alums talking about how nice the OU fans were at the Sugar Bowl, which is odd considering LSU fans are obnoxious as heck, right there with Texas and Auburn fans. Bob Stoops is the epitome of what all college football coaches should be. He never makes excuses for losing, he is gracious in victory, is unpredictable in every way, and is one heck of a gambler when a game is on the line (also got to see that first hand this past season). All in all, he is a 6 star coach on a scale that tops out at 5. Too bad he's not he coach here in 'Bama!
rowbeartoe 06/26/2004
along with U of Tenn, worst grad rates in the country who wouldn't do well with a team loaded with JUCO talent and non-students
kougar24 03/22/2004
Stoops is an excellent strategist. And why shouldn't he be? He's Bill Snyder's pupil, as is Mike Stoops, Brent Venables and Mark Mangino.
Mightyknowital l 03/02/2004
Bob Stoops is an excellent coach, but not one I'd classify as great. He took over a tradition-rich program that had been down for a few years due to poor caoching, but had plenty of talent on-hand, and has made it a top-tier program once again. What Bob has not done is take over a program that stunk, and lift it to the heights, such as Bill Snyder of Kansas State or Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech. Even Sonny Lubick at Colorado State to some extent. Let Stoops take over the Baylor program, or the SMU program, and if he lifts either of them up to become one of the top-tier programs in the land, then I will kiss his ring.
Soonerfan84 02/19/2004
Our little Bobby is the best thing to ever happen to Oklahoma football since Barry Switzer. Although he be agressive and often a little forward to the press, Bob has built a great reputation for himself and especially for the University of Oklahoma. Boomer Sooner!
WisconBadge 12/26/2003
Very glad Iowa didn't hire this guy. He'd kill us every year like he does Mack Brown and Texas!
scarletwingo 12/22/2003
Excellent coach, lets see how he does next year without his bro as def. crd. before we bestow greatness. Still would love to see him pacing the PSU sidelines as Head Coach when JoPa, says bye bye
LtMike 09/08/2003
Good coach on the field, but off has no control over his players and refuses to take a heavy hand when they get in trouble. Off field player antics turning him into a laughing stock.
djfreaky 09/04/2003
He will be at oklahoma for many years winning championships!!
hokeey07 07/24/2003
what an ass...get it right next time and win a freaking national championship...
