Varig has a weight limit of 50 lbs rather than the limit of 2 50 lb bags (total of 100 lbs) that is the standard with all other airlines. They then charge the un-knowing customers $5/lb for overweight. So checking in with luggage that on any other airline would have been no problem, Varig charged an additional $180 US dollars. Do not fly this airline. They are theives.

Varig went bankrupt and got chopped up. Now it just flies little 737s around Brazil.

As a frequent traveller, I am increasingly critical of all services provided on the ground and in the air by any airline I may be travelling with. My first ever flight with Varig was from London to Sao Paolo, and I originally had a lot of reservations about using them - all of it misconceived. Varig was simply brilliant, and I now fly with them frequently.

Barely air-worthy

what a cr*ppy airline this is, i've flown with them 6 times, and they have managed to get rid of my luggage 5 times. I heard they are slightly better now. Service on board is excellent though!

Unquestionably the best of the Latin American airlines.

When I have to decide which airline I will choose, I look at a few different factors. Price, comfort, mileage plan, and service. I consider Varig as an airline which is able to offer the best service, comfort, all at a reasonable price.
