We've been feeding our chocolate beagle blue buffalo for about 3 wks now and my dog likes the food however we have to mix it with other dog food, he also spits out the black kibble i guess he doesn't like it. Thats the con however the pros are his coat is shiny he's always full he eats 1 1/2 maybe twice a day but other than that he's always full and content and he's full of energy all the time. His gut is always fat and full its a good food over all.

I have 3 dogs a Husky, Jack Russell and a Rat Terrier they can be picky eaters especially my Rat Terrier, we had are dogs on Nature's Variety they did well on it but they keep raising the price on their food so we begin trying other quality foods at a lower price but are dogs would eat it for a little while and stop eating. At the moment they are on Blue Buffalo Chicken and Rice formula all three of are dogs really seemed to like the taste of it and we took 7 days to change them over from the other failed food they would'nt eat and now its been almost 2 weeks the've been on it, my Jack Russell has almost pure diarreha, my Husky has half solid and half diarreha, and the Rat Terrier seems to be OK, but they seem to poop more than they eat and yes there's gas that goes with it and we keep them in a fenced in area when they go out so their not getting more food. And yes! I took in stool samples to my vet to check for parasites they found none! I would have given this food 1 star but they did like the taste so I gave it 2 stars, needless to say I will be switching again!

I have a 5yr old Pomeranian who has been eating BB for over a year now. Foxy gets 1/2 cup of BB in the morning and another 1/2 cup at night. She is very active, has a wonderful red coat, firm stools. We use to have a problem with shedding but that seems t have subsided. Lately she has begun passing horrible gas and, something else that I haven't seen mentioned, her breath has become quite foul. Has anyone else noticed the increase in bad breath? What are some comparable dog foods that I might try with the same ingredient standards?

My Puggle Vincent is now 5 months and a few days old. We have bounced him from dog food to dog food as we have found out more about nutritional value (incorporating his old dog food each time into his new one). This is one of the top rated dog foods out there and there are no by-products or corn used. That was a big sell-point for my boyfriend and I. However, I have a question for anyone reading this. Like clockwork after eating, my dog would poop within at the most 1 hour (normally 5-30 minutes after). But after being on this food for about a half a month now, he is not pooping as normally as he used to. For example, he gets fed twice a day, once at about 9:00 in the morning, and once around 6:00 at night. Since his pooping habits have changed we have started feeding him his dinner around 4:00 instead of 6:00 in order to get him to go to the bathroom before he gets put in his crate at night. Yet, he is still pooping in his crate at night, and not going after being fed at 4:00. Is this a sign that we should switch him to another food? Afterall, he loves the food, but I think he is such a hoss that he would eat anything we set in front of him. Has anyone else seen digestion issues with their dogs?

I have had my Akita on Blue Buffalo since he was 4 months. He used to have really bad allergies where he would chew himself raw. When I put him on the food, his allergies slowly diminished. He was lethargic for awhile and got really sick and I thought it was the food, but it turned out that he got giardia and he lost alot of weight. I immediately treated him with panacur and I put him back on puppy food and he gained his weight back within 2 weeks. This food is amazing.

My dachshund won't eat any of the small black kibbles in it, she literally picks every single one out.My hound shepherd mix likes the food, but it gives her very bad gas and deathly smelling #2's. She also recently got a yeast infection and the doctor said it could be due to the high amounts of grain in the food.

We started our German Shepherd on the large breed version of Blue Buffalo about a week and a half ago, because the Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul we had been feeding him was giving him *horrible* gas. He loves it (although he's never hated any dog food he's tried), and the gas has been DRASTICALLY reduced. We're very happy so far.

If you are thinking about going back to Nutro I would check out consumeraffairs.com I just found out on Consumer Affairs that a potential lawsuit is being conducted for Nutro and Canadai. Nutro was tested last in 2008 for higher then normal levels of copper and Zink which is believed to have caused serious Illness to many dogs. I used Nutro too but now I don't know what dog food to use. Does anyone know of a dog food that has not been part of any dog food recall? I tried Blue Buffalo but my dog would not eat the dark blue part of the food.

Seems like a good food, but my dog wont eat the little bits that are freeze dried and thats half the reason I wanted to try this food for that nutritional value.

I have been doing a tremendous amount of research on dog food in the past two weeks because of a nutrition day in my dog's training class. I found my top three dog foods, Blue being the top. I am aware of all of the ingredients and was very impressed with the food in general. A saleswoman in PetSmart explained everything to me about the dog food, but I was still somewhat skeptical about how my 7 month old German Shepherd would react to the food. I decided to try out the Blue puppy formula anyways.I started to introduce it to her with a 90% - 10% ratio of her old food Purina Puppy Chow and Blue. She immediately loved the food! It was the first time I had ever seen her eat her food as soon as I placed it on the ground. I was very excited and thought that Blue was going to be the winner... WRONG!!! After she ate her first couple of bowls, she had a little bit of diahrrea in her stool. I expected that though, but that wasn't the worst part about the transition! On the third day of transitioning her over to Blue, she would not eat her food what so ever! I had to physically spoon feed her the food for her to even look at it! She is normally a VERY hyper-active dog, but for some reason she would not even get up. She just laid around all day and would not do her normal activities around the house. The diahrrea had already supsided, so I didn't think it was bothering her anymore. I guess it was. She would barely even eat her treats, of which she can't get enough of ... NORMALLY! My dog is a very hyper puppy and I know exactly how she acts day-to-day. She is kept in an apartment and is left in her kennel when we are not home. When we take her outside, she is on a 6 foot leash and is directly in our site. If she were to pick up anything outside, we would have noticed it. She is always around us in the house, so there is no way that she ate something that would make her feel this way. I am going to immediately take this food back to PetSmart and see what other food would be better for her. My other choices were Royal Canin and Avoderm. Any suggestions?

Thanks Blue Buffalo Rep for playing on the heart strings of a cancer survivor with your whole pet food that prvents cancer bit. Telling me my dog owuld love this food and have much better health than my current brand. Yeah you peggeg me as a sucker, I took it home placed some in the bowl and wtached my dog spit out the small dark kibbles. With in 2 hours my dog threw up 3 times. Your food sucks!

My boxerXwhippit is a rescue dog that was found almost dead from starvation 1 year ago. Because of her bad past, she has a very sensitive stomach. She cant have corn or beef. Most dog food brands makes her very sick. They give her stomach and intestinal infections. She also gets very bad diahrea. In the past year she went from Iams to Nutro to Nature's Recipes to Chicken and brown rice Blue dog food. This dog food is the only one that she hasnt got sick from it. She doesnt really like it but because its the only dog food that is gentle enough for her sensitive tummy, we are keeping her on it. Dogs might not like the taste but its good for them. Dogs are like kids, they would rather eat junk food than healthy food but as a parent, you have to make the healthy choice for their health, that they like it or not.

I have been feeding my pug the weight management BB for a few months now and the chicken & rice BB to my chihuahua . I have noticed an increase in gas (for both dogs) right off the bat and it still has not subsided. My dogs like the flavor and enjoy the food but now they are having strange health problems. My pug is a year and a half old I noticed that he started having problems hearing, I brought him to the vet. The vet could not see a reddened infection but he took a sample swab to check for yeast overgrowth. I usually clean my pugs ears once a week and he has been to the vet regularly for comprehensive exams but has not had a problem like this in the past. The vet commented on the dog food as a possibility for the yeast overgrowth. My chihuahua did not have any problems for the last 4 years, as clean and healthy as can be, but recently has been experiencing, large amounts of shedding (more than the pug and more than I've ever seen), problems with her joints and overall decreased alertness. Both have lethargy, but are walked regularly. I am not continuing on with this product.

I have been feeding my Doberman Blue Large Breed Puppy and noticed she urinates more frequently. I also began feeding her slightly more as she aged but noticed foul smelling gas. As soon as I lowered her food intake the excessive gas went away. One of their ingredients "Enterococcus faecium" has been known to cause urinary tract infections. Also, their packaging says it contains Vitamin K activity. When I questioned them about why they added this ingredient (that has been banned by the FDA for over-the-counter use) I was told and I'm quoting from their email, "BLUE elected to eliminate any worry from our loyal pet parents and removed Mendadione from our formulas as of Oct 06’...Unfortunately we still have some old packaging inventory that is the process of being used up. This is standard industry practice and is allowed by both the FDA and AFFCO as high quality packaging materials are very expensive."So for over 2 years the packaging you've been reading is incorrect. When asked a time frame to see the new packaging? I was told, "The new bags will start to be used once we run out of the older version ones." So they're telling me they have over 2 years of inventory in their warehouse? And according to Blue they will use new packaging when they run out? They haven't run out yet? After 2 years??? One has to question the statement "standard industry practice"? Do all pet food manufacturers mislabel their packaging? So what exactly IS in Blue Buffalo? They sent me the "new" ingredient list but I question the truthfulness of it. One thing going for them is the chelated minerals. THAT is the ONLY reason I still feed it to her. Most other brands include "copper sulfate" in their ingredients. As a Doberman, she has to have a special diet and I am considering home cooking her meals after what I have been reading about even the Super Premium dog foods. Do your research. Maybe the class action lawsuit these companies are going through will bring about change in the way they formulate our animal's foods.

update: Just had his yearly physical. The vet says he looks great. He eats all his food every night and the improvement in his stool is amazing. I used to hate picking up after him, simply because you never knew what you were gonna get....SERIOUSLY !!!. Now hes just consistently consitent, :)
Loves the food and is excited to eat again. His energy is so much better. Its crazy how long I fed cheaper dog foods not even thinking about nutrition. He always ate so I never thought of it. Then just little by little stopped eating. Im sure there are plenty of healthy dog foods out there and I happened to try the Blue red bag (fish/potato). Im thankful I found it, and could care less about the extra 3 bucks a bag. Thanks Blue. !!!!!
My cat wants to eat the dog food. lol ,so i tried Blue cat food but she didnt seeem to like it. good luck all

We had fed our dogs Pedigree for about a year thinking it was great food because its name brand. WRONG! I found a website called www.dogfoodanalysis.com i know its not a 100% perfect site but all the dog foods i could think of or are highly advertised are rated 1 out of 6. (6 being the best). I wanted to put our dogs on something better, Blue buffalo is a 4 and the only high quality food i can find in 40 miles of our home.Blue buffalo may cost more expensive but they eat less of it because its more filling. They use the bathroom less because they are absorbing more nutrition. I've never had a loose stool since switching. My dogs coats also look amazing! If i could find better i'd buy it but this is the highest rated food my family and I can find.Melissa X 3 schnauzers and a great dane

Recently switched our Newfi to Blue Buffalo from Purina Pro Plan. It's funny...I switched our dog from PPP for just the reasons this blog has been hashing out. On PPP, he had a lot of loose and very frequent stools (defecating excessively at 4xs per day) and a really foul oder from is hind end. He also had loud gas...and numerable 'hot spots' on his skin. I thought, there has to be a better quality food out there...so I tried BB...not on anyones advice...I RESEARCHED ALL the top brands and their ingredients. So far...I have seen a marked increase in his energy level on BB. No unanticipated symptoms...I knew he would have diarrhea and possibly gas. He has not had any vomiting, excessive runs or any other symptoms. I agree with some of the others..."ONE MAY NOT BE RIGHT FOR ALL"....some people are allergic to peanuts while others are not. If it doesn't work out with BB I may try Orijen. So far so good.

This is easily the best pet food I have ever used. You will definitely see significant improvement in your animals in just a few weeks. It's awesome and I recommend it to anyone who cares about what their animals eat.
DogLover17 02/25/2009
To those who say, "Don't buy this dog food," I say "Are you kidding??" You know, each dog is different. What works for one, may not work for another. However, to blanketly say, "don't buy it" without knowing how it works for other dogs is so narrow-minded. I can't say whether you should invest longterm in this dog food or not. What I can say is that I have two beautiful Shelties who are healthy, strong, and with thick, lustrous coats due to using this dog food. I previously had a Sheltie who died young (10 years) and I can't help but wonder if a lot of it wasn't the Beneful crap that I had been feeding her. After she passed on, I did intensive searching on the Internet to find a dog food that was not full of fillers and was healthy and nutritious. I can't say enough about Blue Buffalo. Perhaps there are those whose dogs did not respond well to it for one reason or another. That is true of ANY dog food! My dogs might try what their dogs are on and have intestinal problems. Another BIG problem that many dog owners are not aware of is that you can't switch cold turkey from one dog food to another -- that will guarantee that your poor dog will have stomach/bowel upset! If you gradually move from your current dog food to Blue Buffalo (start with 1/4 Blue to 3/4 yours, then 1/2 and 1/2, etc.) your dog will quickly adapt and should not have any problems with the food. I challenge you to look at the ingredients on the back of any of their bags -- the top ingredients are not filler or sugars. They are exactly what your dog should be eating if you CARE about its health and if you think it's important to not feed your dog junkfood. I have never regretted putting my Shelties on this food and highly recommend it. Just make sure you don't blame the dog food if you abruptly switch from one to another like so many people unknowingly do and your dog gets sick. Our dogs can't speak, but if they could they would ask for us to give them quality food instead of the McDonald's brand dogfoods that are out there. Give it a try -- our dogs love it.

My 4 month old cockapoo loves eating this food. She can't get enough of it!!! The problem is that she has very stinky gas and soft, sometimes runny stools. She also has 2-3 bowel movements a day, which I was told was uncommon. We switched her from Eukanoba puppy food because she seemed to be getting bored with it and would not eat. She has been on the BB Chicken and Brown rice recipe for about a month or so. I really don't want to switch food but not sure if I should. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We are trying Blue on our 1yr. Lab /chow rescue dog. I was not given enough food from the shelter for a lengthy diet transition but she loves the food and I have had none of the gas problems often mentioned. She had rejected two other brands so I did some online research on dog food.I was shocked, appalled and ashamed of myself for being duped by the pet food industry. I have nointerest in wether you choose Blue, but please find out how to read pet food labels. Once you understand what "by- products" and specifically "Meat by-products" mean, you will hopefully never feed that garbage to your pet. I purchased Blue because of the ingredients.I don't understand the comments about "pricy" you get what you pay for. You will find that many of those brands with the happy dog surrounded by choice cuts of meat, vegetables and fruit, are primarily corn and by-products, dogs will have to eat two-three times as much to get the same nutrition as one serving of Blue. I am alway skeptical of any comments on sites like this, the $10 billion pet food industry is dominated by multinational food production companies that have used our pets as a market todump their waste products. An educated consumer is their worst nightmare. I am giving Blue the fifth star. after using the product for over a month, Colette's shiny black fur is so beautiful that she ( with my help) has converted 9 dogs to better food, either Blue or Evo.
4kidsand4pets 02/23/2009
This is one of the best foods on the market. I have my goldendoodle and havanese on it and they have small stools, great coats, and are both at their ideal weights. I like that the food does not contain corn, wheat, soy, or by-products. I discovered the food initially for my Persian cats as one of them had a severe food allergy. Within one month, the allergy was gone so I switched my dogs over as well. I had a slight issue with gas when my havanese was about 5 months old so I mixed the lamb and the chicken puppy formulas. That helped and the gas went slowly away. At one year, he is gas free, loves the food, and has the small well-formed stools.Give the food a try as Petsmart and Petco both offer money back guarantees if you do not like the food. I recommend trying it for at least 2 weeks to give your pet time to get accclimated to the food.I also like the fact that this is a small business not a corporate giant like Purina. I have called the company before and not had any problems speaking to someone who was caring and competent.

I have a 12 year old AKC Boxer who has been on BB for the past 3 yrs. We've always fed foods that were corn, wheat, soy and gluten free due to allergies. BB has been amazing! We've gone from chronic ear infections to 1 in the past year. Boxers are very prone to cancer and fatty tumors so the antioxidants and "cold" processing in BB is important to me as well. The best part is that my senior dog is no longer losing muscle as he was when we tried Nutro Ultra. I think there are a lot of excellent brands but this has been amazing! We have a new Boxer puppy who is doing great on it as well!

Having just lost my beloved English Springer Spaniel Bridgette, it occured to me that her diet may have been the cause. I now have a new Springer pup named Charly. Charly was on puppy chow when I got him and while I have nothing against it, I was concerned that because it was produced on such a large scale it may not be right for my pooch. I switched immediately to the Blue Buffalo Puppy Food and the results are fantastic! His stool is consistant and firm. He loves the taste and his coat and physical well being are amazing. He does not have an ounce of fat on his body and he is super sharp, alert and energetic. The other thing I do now is filter his drinking water. I don ot understand the negative reviews. The only thing I can think of that these dogs are eating more than the Blue Buffalo. Also, NO BULLY STICKS! These pizzle chews are heavily smoked and loaded with salts and preservatives. In springers, I know they are directly the cause of allergic reactions and ear infections! Exercise is key to a happy healthy dog. Why Blue Buffalo does not need to advertise should be a hint to their success. Only the best for my dog and I believe I have found it with this product.

DO NOT BUY THIS DOG FOOD. I had a terrible experience with them - the food made my two dogs very sick. I tried over several weeks and countless phone calls just to speak with a person. I never got through. They are not interested in finding out why their food is causing dogs to become ill. I spoke with my vet about the problem, and explained what happened. He urged me to change brands. The thing that upsets me most about the whole incident is the "I Don't Care" attitude of apparently the whole company. I shelled out the extra money to provide my dogs with the best possibly nutrition - and it really disheartens me to find out the dog food company I believed in is such a sham. Do yourself a favor - consult your vet, I bet he agrees with mine.
law1 02/08/2009
I cannot believe all of the negativity regarding this brand of dog food. It appears to me while scrolling through the pages of 1 and 2 star ratings and accompanied slander against this food is that 1. Most of the people must have their spell check broken as the spelling and sentence construction is horrible. People in this category who want to present an honest and fair rating of this product or any product for that matter should write an intelligent response. 2. I would guess that almost all of the low rates on this product are due to people letting their poor dogs eat every other thing available to their nose and eyes. If you are truly committed to your dog, you will have enough discipline to feed your dog(s) only the Blue product with fresh water daily and you will make sure the dog has a santized bowl daily free from mold, bacteria which is another cause of diarrhea. 3. If you are not watching your dog or keeping a relatively clean home, your dog will be into everything and yes, get sick. Your lack of rating this product intelligently tells me that there are alot of reasons why your dog is sick. It has nothing to do with the product. This product is the finest product out there. It has revolutionized our dog in ways that are amazing. We have always fed our dog good products. We fed her IVD Potato and Duck for a long time. We switched to Rabbit and Potato with the same brand name, (IVD). She did not do well at all with this. We tried the Venison and Potato (IVD) and the results were not so good either. It was the Potato and Duck that was her best suit. There are certain proteins in meat that are not complimentary to all dogs. One size does not fit all. You have to work with what is best for your dog and give things a chance along with keeping other things away from his/her sight which has the propensity to cause diarrhea. A dog is like a little child who dependent on you for sound direction and guidance. Please provide that as they are surely man's best friend. I do not believe this company would ever sell out to another big company like Purina. This is malicious rumor control, and someone who does not have enough to do with their life productively but to sabatoge a well respected company. Shame on all of you that are doing that.

I hear some people complaining about their dogs passing stinky gas. That is because of all the sh** of food they've been fed beforeWhen I got my dog she ate commercial food and her stools were really stincky. After switching to BLUE she began to pass gas and poop alot, but it was more of a detoxication of her accumulated waste that she was fed. She now poops (inside the house.lol) and doenst smell bad at all and her stool is much firmerMy collie eats has been on BLUE forever, I tried switching before and her stools will stink badly with other brands, she will gain weight. BLUE has helped her be active, control weight and her puffy collie coat is so much shinier she doenst even shed as much

I tried the lamb on my boxer. His previous food was Pro Plan. Even with small amounts (1/4 Blue, 3/4 ProPlan), he had pretty bad diarrhea and gas. After a week with no signs of letting up, I gave up. What made it worse was that there is egg in the food and his gas smelled like egg. I live in an apartment and he is home for 4 hours alone at a time so this transition was unexeptable. I will say though that he liked it alot, and mabye I'll try again when I own a home.

Hi, Thought I would chime in on this one. I like Blue. Now just so you know, I've been a Rep or Natural Balance for a few years now. I work with the local pet stores in a major Meto market.I saw mention in one post about Natural Balance and some good results. Listen, I will say the same thing to eveyone here that I say to people in the stores. Once you get to the Ultra premium level like Natural Balance, Solid Gold, Castor Pollux and a few others, we are all real similar in our approach to nutrition with slight variations in formulation. At the core, we all follow the principles of avoiding corn, wheat, soy and by-products and chemical coloring and preservatives. It's real basic stuff. The reality is that no company can formulate a food that will work or appeal to every dog. We, Natural Balance, are a bit different in that we are also a zoo feed company and that is where much of our understanding of animal nutrition comes from.As far as Science Diet goes. All I can say is that I hope the day will come when Vets will be willing to walk away from corporate relationships and begin looking at nutrition for the important roll it plays in a pets health. I cannot tell you how many times I've heard the feedback from consumers that have left Science Diet for an Ultra Premium and have seem major improvements in their pets health. Even if it was as simple as reduced stool. For the most part, pet owners are way ahead of vet science when it comes to finding what works. As for me, If I meet a pet owner in a store and they don't choose my product. What matters most is that they choose a product that will be better for their dog than Science Diet, Pro Plan or alot of the other better known names.

Been feeding it for a year now. Can't say enough good things about how happy I am and my dogs are. They have much more energy, their coat is shinnier and definitely noticing darker/richer coat color too. I am extremely please with Blue food. I have always feed premium grade dog food and was feeding Caniade for 10 years. Happy with Canidae but Blue makes the difference. Stools are nice and firm, the kids love the taste. Is for sure a 4 paws up!! Can't beat that you can find it at all Petsmart and most Petco! My kids are especially fond of the Fish/Sweet Potato formula. Highly Recommend!!

We just got an 8 week old puppy. Her previous owners were feeding her Purina One puppy and she had terrible gas and looser stool. After being on the lamb and rice BB puppy for about a week now, her coat is shinier and her stool is much firmer. She had a problem with a lot of mucous draining from her eyes, but this has been reduced significantly to a normal amount of puppy eye sleep. She also must love the taste of BB because she practically knocks the scoop out of my hand as I'm putting it in her bowl

I have a 4mo. old boxer. We have her on BB puppy. I go with this because I read boxers a rather prone to more health issues than many dogs. So far she's been perfect health. Stools, energy and everything and her coat looks great. Everytime I take her anywhere I get comments on how good and healthy she looks. And when she pooped in the pet store the guy thanked me for giving her a high quality food. I guess he could tell. She does have a little gas but probably no worse than I ever do. But nothing that my wife and I find to be to unbearable. She is almost finished with the puppy and I will be switching her over to BB wilderness which isn't specifically rated on here but I've heard really good things about and the dfa website gives it a 6* rating. I'll post updates on it.

I recently switched my three German Shepherds to Blue. I had been feeding Purina One for several years but just felt they were missing something in their diet. I did some research online about dog food ingredients/natural/organic dog foods and decided to try Blue. It seems there are approximately 6-8 brands that are close in nutritional content and price but Blue being available at Petsmart and Petco made my decision easier. My dogs were chronic shedders and always seemed to be itchy. Since feeding Blue the shedding has decreased and itching has stopped, and they love the taste. No one walks off after a few bites these days. They clean their bowls and want more. After reading these reviews about diarrhea, loose stools and gas all I can say is that any time you switch your dog's diet you should do it gradually, adding a small amount of the new food every few days for 2-3 weeks until you can completely progress your dog off their old food. My dogs did experience some mild gas during the introduction phase but after a couple of weeks it was gone. If you simply stop your dog's current food and starting feeding another, then you are just asking for trouble.

This food is wonderful I own two chihuahua's one is going to be 2 in april and the other will be 1 in March. My 2 year old is the pickiest eater ever she wont touch any food but for some reason the lamb formula of bb she has not a trouble in the world eating. My other the boy has had some horrible gas man is it horrible but if you can get over some gas once in awhile its perfect. Both energy levels are better then ever and yea they are both young and full of energy but this food helped my grl who had no energy have great deal of energy. The coat is shiny and the stool is nice and firm and dark with no problems. I recommend this 110%

Both my 18 year old Chihuahua and my 4 year old Pug love this food! My Pug has a lot of food allergies so I decided to go all natural. We like the chicken and brown rice best. Just fyi, my dogs love carrots and zuccini as their favorite treats also!!!! We as a family of picky eaters highly recomment this food to our fellow humans!!

We started out 12 yr old chihuahua on BB about 5 weeks ago. There is such an amazing difference in her. Her coat is much softer and shinier. Her eyes are brighter. She is more playful than she has ever been in the 4 years we've had her. She has lost her poochy belly and is trimmer. My husband and I had already noticed these changes. Last night my sister came over and she hadn't seen my dog for a couple of weeks. My sister was the first to notice. She said that "Puppy" looked darker. When we started looking closer at her, my sister is right. Puppy has lost most of her gray hair. Not only is her coat shinier, but it really is darker!!! How is this possible? I have never heard of such a thing. She loves this food too.

Blue buffalo dog food is nothing short of AMAZING i have a 2 year old purebred American bulldog and i started her on proplan and then switched to BLUE and it just changed everything ... everything was better ... her skin, coat, teeth, activeness, etc. most the time i either get the BLUE organics or BLUE large breed puppy food then i spend a considerable amount of $ on the BLUE chicken, venison, turkey and beef can wet dog food and i mix 2wice a day half and half of each .... she recently had puppies *11* of them very healthy!!! .. i have started introducing raw ground beef to her meals and that has stopped some of the stinky gas ...... the money i spend on BLUE buff. is well worth it!

I have a 9 week old Dobie and a 6 yr old German Shep. We always fed our germie pedigree because it was cheap and he never had one health issue so we never thought anything of it. When we decided to get a 2nd dog, and decided on a Dobie, we learned that they can be fragile animals when it comes to their health. This is when dog nutrition really caught my interest. After realizing what I had been feeding my poor germie for 6 yrs, I felt terrible. When we brought our dobie home, we started him on nutromax puppy, which wasnt as bad as pedigree but certainly not a good food. I went right out and picked up the large breed formula for both dugs. I passed on the puppy chow because the protein content is the exact same, the puppy chow has a little more fat which we compensate for by feeding slightly more than reccomended. We switched almost 3 weeks ago, gradually. Neither dog ever had any issues with the runs, my germie had some gas but nothing too unbearable. Both dogs love the food and coats look shinier allready. Both dogs droppings have reduced significantly and when you have 2 large breeds thats a blessing. I cant say enough good things about this food. I just dont have enough time to drive an hr to find innova, and I highly doubt it is really that much better than this food. Best of all, I get peace of mind knowing my dogs arent eating the trash of america's food industry. I would reccomend this food to anyone who cares about their dog's nutrition. And the price is really no different than feeding cheap crappy food. My germie is 85 LBs consuming about 6.5 cups a day of pedigree, and now he eats about 3.5 of Blue. Plus, that doesnt count saving yourself vet bills that can be caused by poor nutrition down the road.

Great list of ingredients. My picky eater likes it, but it gave her bloody runs within 2 acclimation meals. I've got her on boiled chicken, brown rice, garlic, parsley, pumpkin diet until she firms up again. She didn't have this sort of reaction with Natural Balance, Wysong or Solid Gold. I know as with humans, there is a natural "detox symptoms" but with such a small dog, it's scary.

I got my first doberman pup and began feeding him BB and it gave him a foul smelling gas; however, he gained a beautiful coat and always seemed healthy. We ignored the gas as best as we could and just assumed he was a gassy dog. We now have a second dobe and she immediately began excreting the same foul gas once she began eating BB. I think this food is not very good for Dobermans. I am now in search of a different quality food for them.

Jolieblond,
What are you feeding your dog now?
Do you free feed or feed specific amounts at specific times?
If this was my dog I would switch 100% to Blue, buy a can or two of the can formula in Chicken or Lamb and mix a small amount (a couple of tablespoons) in with his dry Fish BB food. See what happens (if and how he eats). My bets are on him cleaning his plate; the Fish Formula is the strongest in aroma. In my opinion the easiest with switching over to Blue. Just my thoughts and good luck, you should see results in 3-4 weeks.

I bought the Fish formula for my 4 year old French Bull Dog, gave her 1/4 as recommended, and she ate it, but the dog hasn't eaten since. It's now her third day to turn up her nose at everything I offer her. What's up? She won't eat her old food either.

About a year ago, when I was planning on getting a Golden Doodle puppy, I started searching the Internet to see what the best brands of dog food were. After EXTENSIVE research, I finally settled on Blue Buffalo. I fed Angel the Large Breed Puppy formula and she did great on it - absolutely no problems and her vet checks were always fantastic. She's a year old now so I'm ready to switch her over to an adult formula and I had decided that, due to difficult financial times, I would get a cheaper brand of dog food. I still wanted her to get a good quality food, I just wanted to save a few bucks. I just now got done doing research into other brands of dog food and have come to the conclusion that I'd be CRAZY to switch to any other brand! I found complaint after complaint, not to mention some horror stories, about the other brands that were supposedly "high quality". Some People even mention that it cost them THOUSANDS of dollars in vet bills, due to their bad experiences with the other brands. Therefore, I have come to the same conclusion that I had a year ago - that BLUE BUFFALO IS WORTH THE PRICE! Saving a few bucks in the short term is not worth jeopardizing my dog's health in the long run and I know my dog is getting the best there is, which is the reason I started her on this brand in the first place.

I'm new to this site and wanted to post an experience I had switching to Blue Wilderness from Science Diet. Wow, where do I start with this nightmare regarding Science Diet. I had recently put my 15 month old lab on SD because, like most people, I was under the impression that it was a reputable product. Besides, its all over the vets offices and I put my guy on it and watch in horror as he bloated up and lost all of his muscle detail. I was stunned, period. I saw this happen over a mere 10 days and it really hit home when I got home from a 3 day vacation and noticed how out of shape he looked. I immediately suspected the SD food and googled "Science Diet forums" and found a huge community of Science Diet haters and also a guy who recommended the site www.dogfoodanalysis.com and I discovered Blue Wilderness.
My lab has been on this food for 6 weeks and loves it. His racer body is back and he looks like the stud that he is. Oh, and his coat looks healthy and shiny as well. Please tell eveyone you know to stay the heck away from Science Diet, it really is terrible dog food.
