As close to a local hardware store as those of us who live in major metro areas are likely to find.  Selection maybe not as good as a big box, but better service.  Sometimes the goods are different that HD and Lowes, and, better quality.  Prices are higher - as stated in previous reviews.  Much better chance of getting good customer service here, IMHO.  Someone who will listen and have good advice on solving your problem.  Good but not great.

There is a great deal of difference between different True Value stores, because they are independently owned and operated. The good ones are outstanding, with top products, fair prices (not always the lowest), knowledgeable staff, and a friendly atmosphere. Best of all is the convenience. . . you don't have to walk a half mile from one section to the other. . . . and yet the stores are big enough to meet almost all your needs.

Prices are a bit high, even for the convenience. They seem never to have about 25% of what I need, and this over several stores.

True Value is a great hardware store from both angles - as a customer and as an employee. I cashier there, and I couldn't work for better people. I shopped there before I started working there, and the folks there have always been helpful & knowledgable.
