Unless you crave a bold brew, I recommend sticking with Breakfast Blend. The other stuff for the most part is a little too hearty for my taste. If I am going to pay four bucks, the taste had better be smooth as silk. Seattle's Best is better.

Starbucks is the best coffee I've ever tasted. Yes it's a little pricey, but thinking in terms of value, I'd rather pay 4 bucks for a great latte than 3.25 for one that tastes like it came out of a can. That small difference is an easy choice for me. Also knowing their commitment to purchasing Fair Trade coffee is huge, and I'll pay a little more for that too....and oh yeah I'm addicted...but I don't smoke or drink so I'm allowed a vice like Starbucks.

I think its kinda funny for people to complain so much about a product they have the freedom to ignore. Starbucks is the greatest coffee compant in the world, and has been copied over and over agin by competitors. I agree that some of the things Starbucks competitors do, they do better than Starbucks. Its easier to copy than invent. For those of you you look at Starbucks as a big mean Corporation should know that they buy only FAIR TRADE COFFEE, build schools and hospitals in Latin American countries. Why do they do this??? Because they realise that the coffee farmers are vital to thier future success and they take care of them. Starbucks has nearly 7500 stores worldwide and employes over 74,000 people. Part Time partners receive stock options and benefits. Wow what a brutal mean Corporation. Don't like Starbucks fine, don't drink it. I love Starbucks because the coffee is great, the people are great, and the company is great.

A great coffee, one of my favs. I am not a yuppie or anything, I just like the coffee, I don't like alot of the yuppies who drink this stuff though, nothing that my fist can't take care of though :) Starbucks keep up the good work.
waking_mystery 09/29/2003
They roast it all the same, can't tell one varietal from another that way
tintinet 08/09/2003
I really like the Breakfast Blend. Very smooth and drinkable.
resisobilus 07/15/2003
How did this biz get so ubiquitous? Their coffee is bitter and overpriced. And now you can have all the nasty flavor in your own home, where at least you're not surrounded in every direction by their godawful merchandise (or if you are so surrounded, get over it!)
kolby1973 07/11/2003
I love the coffee shop, but the ice cream brand STARBUCKS is just awful..bleah.
what up dog 07/10/2003
to expensive. i know a place thats more than half their prices and is just as good.
Molfan 06/13/2003
If I just want a regular cup of coffee,I would either make my own or go to some quickstop type place where they did not charge a horrible price for the cup. On occasion I like to have a treat and get one of those "fancy" kinds of coffee. as an example carmel with all that foam on top. Starbucks is okay, they offer the same fancy concoctions as other chains such as Beaners. and charge a fancy price for their brews. I only go here once in awhile when I want a treat. Kind of like when I get icecream and splurge for the bananasplit instead of a scoop. Starbucks is not bad but not somewhere i would go on a regular basis.
RebelYell1861 06/09/2003
I don't care for coffee or anything coffee-related for that matter, but you gotta admire their success. But it's still really strange to me as to why there's one of these about every hundred yards or so in southern Calif. Enough's enough.
ilovestarbucks 03/03/2003
I think it is unfair to complain about the price of something someone voluntarily purchases EVERY DAY. Before I worked for Starbucks, I maybe went there 2 times. I couldn't afford it, and I knew it. Whenever I stop working at Starbucks (which I've been there for six years and counting), I will make adjustments according to what I can afford. The baristas I have trained have made it their business and their passion to make sure every customer is 110% satisfied, every time. And if someone isn't happy, we will make you happy, because we want you to come back. For those of you non-believers, please believe this...the partners at my store are doing everything we can to keep you coming back. And don't be embarassed if we know your kids' names...that's actually pretty cool, if you think about it. It's like having a neighbor who makes your coffee and gives your kid a sticker just for being adorable.

Starbucks has remained one of the consistently best fresh consumer products in existence. I've tasted coffee in several European countries and from every restaurant chain in the U.S., not to mention some very upscale establishments. I've consumed enough New York deli "coffee" to float a battleship. Some of Starbucks varieties I like much better than others, but if you truly like hot, fresh tasty coffee with some kick to it, this is still the best place to get it.
Shukhevych 12/08/2002
I don't drink coffee, much less overpriced coffee and capuccinos and all of those other drinks. I'm perfectly happy with my tea bags- taste good, and are a lot cheaper.
consumergal 12/02/2002
Convenient and good variety. Their chai is good, but the coffee is too strong and bitter. I also dislike that Starbucks ran out all the little guys, and pop up on every corner. That said, I still go to Starbucks.

I am a Starbucks addict. There are about eight Starbuck's stores within two miles of my house (almost all of them have a drive through). I think the coffee is great (I get mine with no cream), it sure wakes you up! But my true obsession is the Gingerbread Latte, Eggnog Latte and White Chocolate Mocha. I dare to think how much money I have spent at starbucks in the last 7 years. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because of the price. Four dollars for a latte? Whoaaa. I have cut down a lot (I get a latte about once per week), but still. In my Starbucks addict days, I went through the drive through all the time. The workers knew my child by name.Pretty sad.
Jason1972 11/01/2002
Their caramel macchiattos are the one to beat!
doctor_dread 08/19/2002
For those who think carrying a paper cup with a Starbucks logo stamped on it is "status", you should really contemplate YOUR purpose. I'm so tired of hearing people whine about the price of this coffee and the perceived "high-browedness" of its drinkers. I've tried them all; it wasn't until I had my first cup of Starbucks in 1980-something that I really appreciated coffee for what it was. (OK. A little coffee shop I discovered in Berkeley in 1976 set the stage for my appreciation.) I don't drink coffee for caffeine or to keep me charged. I drink it because I enjoy the taste. Starbucks was the first coffee shop I discovered that attempted to educate its consumers about what they taste when they engage in a cup of coffee or espresso. I find Starbucks coffees to be a reasonably priced, consistent-quality indulgence. Although the decor of the environment is somewhat monotonous and commercial, the product is great. If you can't afford it, then go elsewhere. If you prefer Folgers, McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts or Sanka, then simply keep out. Starbucks, they hate you because you're beautiful and successful!
Shroomwoman 12/21/2001
I wish I didn't, but I absolutely love Starbucks coffee. I try different types of coffee on a regular basis, and I haven't found one to beat the flavor of the House Blend at Starbucks. At least it's available at my local grocery store so I don't have to brave the crowds at Starbucks!
Galomorro 12/11/2001
Unimpressed with manners of people working in two of their stores. The coffee costs way too much and it's always so crowded, yet the customer service could use some improvement.
Snoopy 12/10/2001
The coffee is good, but the price is a little too high. The only fancy coffee I really like is a Cafe Mocha.
raincat 10/16/2001
This is very difficult to rate. If the ratings are for just a cup of coffee my rating for Starbucks would be a 1 star for terrible. Everytime I have ordered a coffee of the day from several different Starbucks, the coffee has been bitter and unpleasureable and for the highest price anywhere. All 5 0r 6 times I did this the coffee should have been named coffee of the month rather that coffee of the day because it tasted consistently like it was made 30 days before! I almost gave up on Starbucks altogether, but then I ordered a hot Cafe Mocha and I was in love!! I have also ordered this 5 or 6 times in different Starbucks locations, and it is consistently GOOD. I find it shallow for people to buy the coffee and be seen in the Starbucks stores as mostly a way to feel trendy and stylish. I give that a one too! But: FOR THE CAFE MOCHA (hot or iced) ONLY IS WHY I AM RATING 3 STARS!!!!!
sunny184 09/28/2001
Starbucks is one of the best I've ever tasted.
CastleBee 08/08/2001
Good coffee, but waaaaay overrated (whether we are talking the beans or made to order). If you need to see and be seen (uh, perhaps spending your money like an upwardly mobile fish?) then by all means - pull up a tiny little artsy chair and order a cup or two. I can honestly get a better cup at White Castle for less than a third of the price. But then, I'm too old to give a care and I like my coffee black sans the goo.
afterglow70 06/12/2001
I like it, but I think Folgers is just as good. Cheaper too. I have to agree that it is over rated.
callmetootie 04/09/2001
Starbucks makes an OK.coffee, and we're grading it on the coffee, not on the service right. Because their service at the places is extremly slow, and the prices are pretty high. I can just get my Starbucks in the bag, at the store.
mukkrukkis 03/18/2001
Okay, but way overrated.
joybytes 03/09/2001
After reading through the other comments let me point out that this survey is about the coffee - not the establishment or as some seem to espouse "cult." So...concerning the coffee (not the cup or logo) Starbucks sells/brews/distributes the freshest and most robust coffee available in America. Starbucks has a wide variety of beans grown in many different areas of the world. Most Starbuck shops display a chart which aids in selecting the coffee that matches your palette best. The chart not only tells you whether the coffee will brew mild to strong, it also gives a descriptive on flavor (kind of like the descriptions vintners give on their wines).
eBrain1 02/19/2001
Starbucks is Delicious Coffee. The supposed status got me to try, but the taste is why I remain with it.
Diane@ECfans 02/18/2001
I drink my coffee for taste, not status, so this one's out. However, their insulated stainless steel cups are definitely worth the hefty price. Try your delicious Gevalia coffee in those for a cup that stays hot for literally HOURS!!
World Vision 01/02/2001
I've been around the world and I can confirm that this coffee is not only over-rated but over-priced. A 50 cent Cuban coffee in Miami, for example, is much better.
Queenie 10/24/2000
oh how i love coffee !!
TheShoeLady 06/22/2000
They manage to have something that will appeal to everyone whether you are a tea drinker or a coffee drinker. The coffee beans are outstanding but the pastry section leaves something to be desired.
SamIAm 06/22/2000
People who drink Starbucks' coffee are more interested in carrying around the cup, advertising that they are "hip" and drinking Starbucks coffee. It is definitely a status symbol, and an absurd one at that. The coffee is NOT good, in fact, in my experience it has been HORRIBLE! Any true coffee drinker would prefer a better cup of coffee and ANY other coffee house, at a reasonable price. Overrated..isn't the whole idea behind coffee houses, to be unique and interesting little joints that offer a different selection of coffees..and shouldn't the atmosphere be..I don't know..a little off beat? Starbucks tried to mass produce this sense of idyllic charm..instead, Starbucks is the Mickey D's of Coffee Houses..no individuality, no unique atmosphere..Just really BAD, bitter, overpriced coffee in a room filled with idiots willing to pay 5 bucks for a crappy cup of joe!
PoorOldEdgarDe rby 04/24/2000
Okay but definitely overrated and certainly overpriced. I don't understand the mentality that makes people stand in long lines waiting to pay too much for Starbucks coffee while other local shops get less traffic and have better coffee and prices. Has Starbucks become a status symbol?
altr4748et 03/10/2000
It tastes burnt, bitter and does not blend well with cream or milk. It is one of the worst coffees I ever tasted. Yes, I am a food snob!
rejo3397du 12/19/1999
Nothing beats their Caramel Macciatos's.
pden629rg 12/01/1999
All of the Starbucks coffees have the same filtered water after-taste too them. Plus every starbucks is so generic and similar to every other Starbucks. Its become the McDonalds of coffee houses except at least Mickey D's is cheap.Starbucks is overpriced.
rjbo1875et 11/27/1999
Starbucks does it right every time. Good service, great product.

Corporate coffee at its best.

Starbucks is great especially for their frappacino's

Excellent coffee. But not as good as the prices would have me believe.

Starbuck coffee is consistently above average - a veritably good coffee.
