you had to be there, i think. one of the first shows i remember from the mid-50s. the ritual of the keys... the captain... bunny rabbit... mister moose... they were great. mister green jeans kinda creeped me out - the kinda guy you always imagined as that stranger with the candy...grandfather clock and dancing bear were bizarre. particularly loved it when the captain would make projects with contruction paper. and didn't he show episodes of Tom Terrific?!! (you know, that line drawing kid with a funnel for a hat and a tornado for a body? or maybe i was tripping?)

One of my favorites as a kid! It was still on when I was little - I didn't realize it started that long ago.

Wonderful kids program. I'll always have fond memories of watching this show, growing up...

I'm partial to Mr. Green Jeans the farmer myself. Also Big Moose. But these characters might not have made it until the 1960s. The Capt. distinguished himself for years after his retirement fighting tobacco firms re the marketing of cigarettes to children, and pushing for public funds for education around risks of tobacco, which continues to kill millions per year.

I have found memories watching this show as a very young boy. The dancing bear was my favorite!

You know, looking back on this show now: it was really stupid.

The only thing that got me about this show, was why was the star neither a Captain, nor a kangaroo.

Captain Kangaroo was a very good show for children in the 80's. I myself thought that it was very entertaining and children today would still like it. One of the best children shows that have ever been on the air.

I loved the Captain. he was my hereo. I especially loved Mr. Moose and Dancing Bear. This show was a kind, gentle show so different from the garbage that is on the boob tube today. Rest in Peace Cpatin!!!

As a child I watched this show and thought it was strange..especially Mr Greenjeans! Anyway saw the Captain on an interview and he is really a smart guy..had a lot of intresting things to say about today's TV.

A gentle and charming show that was concerned with children, respected children, even though its message was sometimes corny and preachy. Much better than the nonsense out there today, which is little more than a relentless marketing campaign targeted at the impressionable and easily convinced. Mr. Moose was a hoot, obviously my favorite when you consider my Internet handle.

As a young kid I loved the Captian, Bunny Rabbit, Mr. Moose and Mr. Green Jeans. I wasn't too crazy about Grandfather Clock. This is a classic show. CBS is still paying for cancelling it and putting on CBS Morning News in its place, as that show has bombed in the ratings for all these years. I call it the curse of Captian Kangaroo. Anyway, anyone growing up back then loved that Captain KAngaroo.

As a kid it was always great waking up with the captain, there's nothing like it on today.

Captain Kangaroo is the most annoying thing on reruns in television history. He is so annoying and stupid, and he seems like he doesn't have half a brain. I think that we should sign something to keep him off the air, because I can't stop my kid from bounicing on the furinture and singing dumb songs.

As a child in the '60's, I would not have considered ever missing a day of the Captain, Mr. Green Jeans, Mr. Moose, Bunny Rabbit, Dancing Bear and Grandfather Clock. As soon as Captain Kangaroo started jingling those keys to cue the beginning of the theme song, I was entranced. There were always so many things going on - funny skits, puppets, story telling, music, dancing, cartoons (remember Tom Terrific and the Mighty Manfred?). The Captain also encouraged us to use our imaginations in arts and crafts segments where he would show how to make things out of ordinary items like shoeboxes, strings, spools and tape. My personal favorite was the Magic Drawing Board that amazingly illustrated stories as they were being told. The show was always moving but still had a kind of gentle pace, which, looking back, was probably not a bad thing for a child to experience in their daily TV viewing. Yep, the Treasure House was really the place to hang out all those years ago!
