Great bars and clubs, and more college students per mile than anywhere else in the country. Girls are well dressed and many hotties. My knock on the city is that since it's not on a grid system like New York it's easy to get lost. Also the Big Dig is taking waay too long and the construction is a mess. Go Red Sox and Celtics!

Boston is one of my favorite cities in this country. There's tons of history here; do the Freedom Trail to get the full sense of it. It's a great city to walk. The North End is my favorite area of town. Wherever you go, there are a lot of green areas throughout town that are good for jogging. Very livable city, it can get cold though. There's tons of stuff to do outside the city; visiting Lexington and Concord, the site of the shot heard around the world was very interesting. Lots of Revolutionary War history here. There are a few nice beaches in the area, but they're too cold for me. I'm used to swimming in 80 degree water in Miami!

This is one of the best cities in America, period. The population is mostly smart, educated, and sophisticated. The city has Charm with a capital "C"- they preserved the old architecture and never got sucked in by revitalization. It is much more livable on a human scale than NYC, but has a similar energy and buzz to it. My only complaint is that the city could close the bars later than 2:00 AM...

I love this place. I have so much fun everytime I go here. There is lots to do, shopping, nightlife, restaurants, historic stuff etc. It's all great. Other people seem to think that the people are rude, but I really liked the people here. They are honest and funny, unlike in Philadelphia or New York. The only thing I don't like is that the T(there public transportation) isn't 24 hours. Other than that this city is WONDERFUL!

Very decent and civil place to live, but a tad stuffy. There's good nightlife and plenty of culture due to the strong college/university presence there. The food is pretty good and there's enough sports activity to keep one diverted. It is a safe city, comparatively speaking, and cleaner than most, but driving and parking there is a nightmare. This is a great city to go to school or start your career if you're a 20 something, but I don't feel there's much of a middle-aged scene like in other cities. All in all, one of the North American best cities to visit or live in.

One of my favorite cities and I am so surprised that it is not higher on the list. As a loyal lover of history, Boston is like a haven for me. Three notable Presidents were born in this area, JFK, John Quincey Adams and John Adams, and its really interesting to visit historical sites in their memory. I have yet to visit the JFK Presidential Library- but plan to on my next visit. A lot of museums to visit, good places to eat, and a lot of recreational centers, most notably the Fleet Center. Minus a star for a whole bunch of snobby rude people (not all, but most), and a bad highway system at least for the time being.

Boston is one of the most histrorical cities in the US. The Big Dig has currently ruined the city, but when its done its going to be one of the most greatest designs of a highway system ever. Fenway Park is a greatr place to visit. Its just as exciting as NYC without the large herds of people.

Overrated and underheated.

Boston appeals to me mainly because it has so much to offer the history buff. A walk along and around the Freedom Trail is to experience the early American story at its finest. The surroundings in and near the city are gorgeous--pleasant parks, lakes, rivers and (during Summer) beaches are all within a short walk or drive. Contrary to what others have said here, I generally find the people to be very friendly. And is there any finer baseball venue than Fenway Park? I hesitate to give Boston 5 stars though because traffic (even away from the Big Dig) typically is horrendous, the climate is uncomfortably cold in the Winter, and a visit here anytime can become very expensive very quickly.

I really liked boston! There were all these cool street fairs and I bought some pretty cool stuff. But beware when crossing the street! They drive worse than parisians!

The most boring place ive ever been, i only give it 1 star because im irish.

It will be 4 stars again once the construction is finished. I also agree with another reviewer about the cabbies always pulling out maps to find their destinations. Boston is great if you're a history buff. I love Boston sports fans because of their collective psychosis. They can be a little provincial but that doesn't take away the charm of this city.

Boston is a great city to explore, especially by foot! The numerous colleges set it apart from other New England cities, along with the history and diverse neighborhoods. I had a super time in Boston and would return in a heartbeat.

I think Boston is a pretty nice city to visit. There is a lot of stuff to do. There are many museums, shopping malls, fine restaurants, parks, stores, cafes, and lots of other fun places to go to. Boston also has good colleges and hospitals. The traffic is terrible though. It's probably better to take the T or a bus around Beantown.

I like Boston...one of the better American cities all-round. Loses a point, however, for its lack of fashion sense, and ridiculously high apartmental rental and real estate prices...

Boston is a wonderful city. It's a great place for the college-aged person. The night life is exciting, lots of concerts and shows to see, plus you're right in the middle of history. It's neat to see the older structures sprinkled amongst the more modern one. The Freedom Trail is a must do, which goes through Quincy Market and to Old Ironsides. You should also visit Cambridge and see Harvard and M.I.T, and definitely make sure you catch a show of Blue Man Group at the Charles Playhouse. Oh, and I've rarely run into a rude person. Most people are friendly, even toward tourists. One drawback is the traffic. I've driven into downtown Boston a few times, and hated it. However, you don't need to drive. Boston has a wonderful subway system, the T, which will take you everywhere you want to go. It's fast and clean.

There's plenty to like about this city -- the history, a lot of neighborhoods to explore, fun night life, Fenway, etc. -- but what's up with the terrible cabs?! I never fail to have a cabbie that needs to pull over and get a book out to find where I'm going (and I'm going to streets close to Harvard and places that ought to be easy). The only thing worse than using cabs is driving yourself around all the horrible construction. The Big Dig has just ruined that city. Count on an extra 20 minutes coming and going from Logan Airport just due to the miserable traffic as five lanes collapse into one, and other such nonsense.... Sheesh.

Ugh. People in Boston are unbelieveably rude. And why does everyone there wear black all the time? I swear, it must be like a residency requirement. Black shoes, black pants, black blazers on EVERYONE. I don't like Boston.

One of (if not the) best cities in the country. Low crime and unemployment, one of the highest annual incomes per capita, ethnic diversity, some of the best hospitals in the world, great history.

I have only been to Boston a couple of times, but it is a really fun town. It would get a 5 star rating in my book if only the people there were not the personification of a Mass-hole. OK, your sports teams suck and it does get knid of miserable there in the winter, but there is no reason for you people to be so rude and single-mided (on the whole - this by no means is stereotyping all who live in the area).

Never frive in this city, but if you can stand public transportation, you'll love it here. Great Italian restaurants and great Irish hangouts. It's a beautiful city. A must see if you are visiting the east Coast.

One of the things people love about Boston is the diverse ethnicity. One of the things they hate is the racism. Got news for ya: They are two branches of the same tree. Can't have an ethnic neighborhood without being racist or segregationist. I lived in an ethnic neighborhood for ten years in Boston, and was never treated as an insider. My husband looked the part, and he was accepted from Day One.
Dragonfly 11/17/1999
The sense of history was great, and its a beautiful city, but geez, why is everyone so racist there? I know I had a pretty random sample of 3 cabbies in 3 days, but each one made disparaging remarks about various peoples that shocked me.

Best city ever-Boston, MA. It beats them all!
