Oh, dear me, some people don't get out of their neighborhoods very often. The fact is there are still many racists bigots in Gahgha - just like there are throughout the entire country. You don't get rid of this kind of thing by wishing it not to be so. However, attitudes have seemed to evolve over the years. This may be partly due to so many people playing musical states with their jobs causing the culture to slowly change in the south along with the accents. I personally have enjoyed spending time in Georgia - mostly in Atlanta. There were lots of beautiful tall pine trees, odd-looking red dirt, many things to do, warm weather much of the year and friendly people. Oh yes, and the last time I checked it was still considered to be in the so-called "Bible Belt" too - but in some of the more genuine instances I would consider that one of the pluses.

It has been brought to my attention that not all people from Georgia are rednecks by TheFreak. There are several there, though, but I do not like stereotyping. I despise the Braves. The Braves are an arrogant team and they know the Yankees are a million times better (the 1996 and 1999 World Series!). The Braves suck!

Ah, yes. One of the states to where everybody and their brother moves. Not that that's bad, necessarily. But I would venture to guess that most native Georgians are tired of having all these Yankees come down from New York or New Jersey or Michigan and transform a truly lovely state into another impersonal, fast-paced megalopolis, reminiscent of the Boston-to-Washington corridor. Unfortunately, the indigenous Southron culture suffers whenever short-sighted politicians and businesspeople want to be just like the Northeast or California. Who wants to live in or around Atlanta these days? Give me Savannah, or Macon, or Perry or the Sea Islands any day.

Georgia is a great state. It has fantastic weather, friendly people, a rich cultural history, and awesome natural beauty. What is all of this talk about rednecks in Georgia? What a stereotype. Friends, there are rednecks in all 50 states they just have different accents. Savannah is one of the prettiest and most charming little cities in the world, not just the United States. Atlanta is big, happening, and modern. It had many historical gems. General Sherman didn't seem to care for them, so all of Atlanta was built post 1865. Northern people migrate to Atlanta and try to turn it into New Jersey South. I've never quite figured that one out. Georgia is fantastic! It's not my home, but it's great.

Georgia...ahh, when I hear that word, several beautiful things come to mind. My home, for one, warm weather, lush greenery, friendly people, R.E.M. music, summers, the list goes on. Yes, my friends, Georgia is a wonderful, overlooked place. How DARE anyone call it's people rednecks! I feel that having lived in Georgia gives a person bragging rights. We are proud to be from the South, proud of our lovely state, and we are willing to stand up to idiots that say Georgia is a racist, Bible-belt state! Cause it's NOT TRUE! It is my home, and that in itself deserves five stars. All, especially New York, must bow to Georgia!

Georgia is the best out of all 50 states! I love it there even though there are a lot of red necks it is still a very fun and exciting place to be! The traffic is horrible though! I love just going to downtown Atl. and just walkin around and taking the subway.

Yea baby! It's all about the dirty south...so all you clean, sophisticated Yankees just stay up north ok? I think people talk to much trash about GA....and they say there are nothing but rednecks here. That is not true..let me be the first to tell ya. Unless you live here, you don't know what it's really like...so the Yanks need to quit trying to judge something that they have NO CLUE about. GA is hype!! And I love living here. Atlanta is also the bomb city....so new York just back on down!

I lived in Atlanta for about five years, so I spent a lot of time in Georgia and have almost nothing but good things to say about the state. Sure there are rednecks, and the level of cultural sophistication may not be the highest, but other things make up for it. Atlanta is the most diverse and interesting city in the southeast. The north Georgia mountains have some great hiking and camping. And Savannah is a unique, beautiful little city. In addition, it was easy to take great weekend trips from Atlanta to places like Destin (a nice beach on the Florida panhandle), Hilton Head, and Charleston. Would I want to spend the rest of my life in Georgia? No way. But it really is a great place to spend some time.
