 | GenghisTheHun (171) 01/29/2008 | Between 900 A.d. and 1200 A.D.a group of Athbascan Indians left northwestern Canada and migrated to the Arizona and New Mexico area of the USA. This group was a hunter-gatherer group and traveled on foot. Contact with the Spanish, however, changed everything and that was the introduction of the horse.
Apache society quickly changed as many Apache became buffalo hunters but others retained the old Apache ways. For the three centuries from the introduction of the horse to the arrival of the Americans, the Apache terrorized and dominated this area of the country.
It was only force of numbers and technology possessed by the Americans that overcame this fierce group. Regardless, the Apache left an indeligible mark on American history and society.
