Reductionism has nothing to do with "dumbing things down."

It is a philosophical construct that complex ideas and structures are the sum of their parts, and can be explained as such. This does not, in and of itself, dumb anything down, unless you're dumb to begin with.

I can only speak for Myself here, but I tend to Like having things Dumbed down. It's the only way Assholes like me can Understand things.

This is the idea in philosophy to break something down into its simpler parts so it becomes easier to understand. Then you can add the simpler parts back into the more complex form, again, and you will have gained knowledge.
