He came from Wyoming to Nebraska in the early 1960's and shaped up a football program that was a stinker.

He was a great coach and the founder of the Nebraska dynasty that lasted for the next 35 years.

Devaney brought toughness and constency to a Nebraska program that was mediocre and endded with a nationally recognized team with two National Champs, and one of the highest graduating classes.

This guy took a Nebraska team that won only 3 games in 1961 and got them 9 wins the following season, including a bowl victory. He then went on to win back-to-back championships in the '70's. For coaching for only slightly over a decade, this man accomplished alot. He put the University of Nebraska back onto the map.
