I usually caught this show when I was channel flipping but the few times I did watch I rather enjoyed it.

What the smeg is it with downing something you don't quite understand. Britcoms are like wine. You need to develop a taste for it, and the quality improves with age. I still laugh at old eps, and I try not to miss newer ones when they show up on BBC America or PBS. This show and Doctor Who have been a guilty pleasure of mine since high school. :)

Everybody told me this was great, and I had huge expectations. Didn't make it through a second episode.

Irish is right, the show definitely had some inconsistently low points. There'd be classic episodes such as Confidence and Paranoia in which the slobbish Lister would see his Confidence and Paranoia personified by a hyper-powerful virus (Confidence being represented by a smooth speaking talk show host and Paranoia by a dreary accountant) and there'd be some incredibly unfunny and even crude moments such as when Lister fights the curry monster with a dousing of lager. It averages as a pretty good show but be prepared for some stinkers, especially in series 3 and 4.

I liked it. It was different it took te rise from Star Trek, Blake 7 and all the other over serious space shows.

At its best, one of the funniest things I've ever seen. At its worst, one of the most embarrassing things I've seen. Needed more consistant writing.
