OK,it's a tradition,and an exciting show...but what bothers me is that the Bull dies no matter if he wins or loses.I don't think that's fair-and it certainly isn't macho or manly to stack the odds.I say if the Bull tramples and gores the Matador he should earn his freedom.Humans need to be humbled once in awhile....

I'm not appalled by it but I don't consider it a sport. It's entertainment. Sport is what dedicated athletes do for the perfection of their craft, regardless of the size of the audience. Are the Harlem Globetrotters participating in a sport? Criticizing matadors for honing their skills for the pleasure and enjoyment of the audience is like criticizing the guitar player for improving the speed of his chord changes, it's what the fans are paying to see. Sorry about the bull, but if he wins, I (the matador) am dead. No, thanks, I prefer the roar of the crowd for MY efforts and skill. This is a business, more spectators mean a bigger payday for all involved, and nearly everybody goes home happy. But, why criticize the skills and actions of the matadors, they are performers giving the audience what it wants, what it paid to see? How long has this form of entertainment been so popular? I don't see any momentum to the thought, Hey, this really sucks for the bull. We should stop it.

Yeah. Let's jam spears into it's back while making it fight for its life in a ring with an armed man. THAT'S fair. I don't want to hear anyone try that Well, it's got horns and it's bigger nonsense, either; sticking spikes in the back of your opponent hardly makes for a fair fight, no matter what the advantage it might have had. The only decent thing about this sport is that at least they eat the bull afterwards.

The Spanish followers of this event (it is hardly a sport) claim that the animals are treated royally and humanely as they are groomed for such occasions, on open farmland and with the best food and comfort. Oh, nice! Yes, the animals may be killed for food later on, but in such a spectacle. I remember seeing a bullfight as a lad without knowing that the animal was actually killed. This activity degrades us all.

As a bull's participation is not voluntary and the odds are hopelessly and unfairly stacked against him, this sport doesn't seem very sporting to me. Seems to be a waste of a beautiful and powerful animal.

I saw a bullfight in Mexico City. As an American (of the United States variety), I was singularly unimpressed and a bit taken aback by the hero worship given to the bullfighters who had killed animals who were never in a fair fight. A lot of those bulls were not only not angry or hostile, some were genuinely frightened and the whole thing struck me as cruel and unecessary. Of course, I am employing my set of values to something I witnessed in another country.

I find it amazing what some men will go through to prove how brave and superior they are over animals. Lets put this animal in an enclosed ring with not always one but several matadores who torture this proud animal while slowly bleeding the life out it to make a clean kill! They call this courageous and an artistic sport merely for entertainment, disgusting!
