I agree and am very disappointed with Ocean Blue, all of a sudden 3 of my Siberian Huskies with digestive issues and allergies who did well on these products last year acutely developed huge soft stools and defecated every two hours and urination increased as if on prednisone. My 7 year old won't even touch it, now. Increased belching and again draining water bowls? Guess it's time to test for renal/liver issues?? Recall?? What's up at 65.00 a bag??

I have a Doberman with food allergies. he is doing great on this food. His coat has filled in and is very shiny. He is 8 months old. My question is, have any of you fed it to puppies? I do not see a puppy specific formula. I have used Iams, Natural Balance, and Taste of the Wild. All are good foods, with Timberwolf & Taste of the Wild being the best for him. Any info is appreciated.

I bought a bag of Ocean Blue for my dog in Nov., 2007, from a pet store and my dog loved it. I bought another bag in Jan, 2008, and he won't touch it. What changed??? I e-mailed the company; I asked very politely if there is some change in the product. No reply. I wonder if the negs I read are true. If it is truly not an organic food as advertised then I have to figure out with what agency I lodge a complaint. Certainly, the company is about to lose my future business if they ignore my e-mail.

I can't believe Timberwolf claims the formula hasn't changed, just a labeling problem on the bags. I used Ocean blue and the salmon oil changed to chicken fat. Also, they will not disclose to WDJ who manufactures their dog food. WHY? This company is just going down hill fast and appears to have something to hide. Can't trust this company any longer.

Yes, timberwolf is not organic but I do not believe they named the dog food to deceive. Organic scientifically is any organism comprised of carbon, which is anything that is alive. On their website timberwolf states the new bags will say timberwolf and that they will drop the organics from the label. They go on to say the formulas have not changed. After 3 of my dogs died of cancer, I learned the terrible truth and unethical practices of the commercial dog food industry. Commercial dog food companies put carcinogenic preservatives, cheap corn fillers and possibly use euthanized animals including dogs as meat products.

I decided to post this because even though timberwolf has there short comings, I believe they offer the best ingredients. I do not want people reading these negative posts to go out and buy the cheap commercial dog foods that will end up hurting their beloved pets. My dog had a hot spot (bald area) that developed at the base of his tail from pedigree. This is the exact thing that happened to my dog early on before the mother got cancer.
Within 3 months of my switch to timberwolf the hair has completely grown back, his coat is so soft and shiny and all their energy levels are off the charts

I am new to this site and new to Timberwolf Organics - I own a store and I have been reading up on this food brand and everyone here gave it really good reviews & ratings, so after careful consideration I brought it in my store. NOW I am reading everyone's posts about the change in ingredients and how unhappy and dissapointed you all are with this food... Is it really bad as you make it sound? What I do know and didnt find out until I had placed my order was that this is not really "organic" food...so to me that is misleading the consumer (my customers!) I cant sell it as 'organic' food if it really isn't. That I was upset about...

This company is truly unbelievable. After emailing the company I received the same exact response. They claim it's all about the bags. They started to use a new manufacturer for their bags and that's what made them notice that the ingredients were all wrong. So, basically what you thought you were feeding your pet all along was a lie. They claim the formula has never changed, it was just listed incorrectly. I was feeding the Lamb and Apples formula, and the new bags don't even have walnut oil listed at all, or flaxseed. So, all along I thought my pet was getting the benefits of these ingredients when in fact they weren't even in there at all. So, I ask since they are acknowledging this fact, why then have they made no effort to notify their customers or distributors? Not even a notice on their website. Basically, they only admit fault when asked. I took the liberty of notifying my local retail distributor in town, and they were shocked to hear about this. Why would Timberwolf keep this so hush hush? Why not let your distributors know, so at least they can put up some kind of a disclaimer that explains what ingredients are actually in bag. I just don't believe Timberwolf's excuses. "The formula is the same we were just using mis-labled bags" Give me a break, how is that even legal?

I pay good money for this food and expect a good product for my severly allergic dog. This was the only food that worked for him. The only one without the chicken fat that the vet said he shouldn't react to because its only fat but he always does (i'm sure the factories are not to conserned if chicken protien gets in there) I will no longer be using it nor will I recommend it to my customers unless they bring back the old formula. All my customers who use it have allergic dogs so I will have to inform them about the changes. Timberwolf is going to loose a lot of customers, I don't know who the brains behind the changes is but he might want to rethink the changes. For me this product went from great to just regular (I can't use it for what it is intended for)overnight. I hope I can find a product as good as this one use to be. I'm sorry for all the dogs who have to go through all the itching and infections while their owners try to find another product.

We have been feeding our three year old German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) the Black Forest formula for six months now and he is doing wonderful on it. After suffering a very bad injury our GSP needed some extra attention to help his healing process; our vet recommended Timberwolf and we could not be happier. He maintained his health and his weight through two orthopedic related surgeries and several months of immobilization due to splints and casts. His coat remained shiny and he stayed in a "chipper" mood despite his injuries. Six months later he is back to normal, running, playing, working, and pointing with the best of them. I attribute some of his excellent recovery to Timberwolf; albeit the majority of the credit goes to our wonderful orthopedic veterinarian surgeon. I read a lot of reviews on Timberwolf and I found most of the negative ones were short, factually incorrect, and in some cases blatantly asinine. I would suggest that people check their facts prior to making any judgment. To those who think the name is misleading; I suggest checking your dictionary for the definition of "organic" - which means from plant or animal origin. I think the food and the company is appropriately named in light of that. I would recommend Timberwolf to anyone that is looking for a dried kibble canine food that is a step above your average brand in terms of quality control and ingredients. Our dog will remain on Timberwolf. I am not sure what most people are paying for this food, but I guarantee what I pay for it here in Hong Kong is a bit more and I still think it is absolutely the best dried kibble on the market.

I was excited to start using Timberwolf Ocean Blue in rotation with Orijen. My online retailer was having this great blowout special, so I ordered a couple of bags. My four guys (actually 3 guys, 1 girl) all scarfed it down without a problem with almost no transition, which is what I've found with most of the grain-free foods, except Evo. My initial observation is that it is not as calorie-dense as Orijen, so I had to adjust up, especially for my Hound/Pit mix, Columbo, as he started losing weight a bit on it. I added an extra scoop plus some canned supplements. I find it an excellent rotation brand, especially at the sale price of $40/bag, which makes up for the extra food needed. At the regular price...I don't know.

Update 12/14/2007:
I'm moderately disappointed with this food.I had very high expectations at first. All my kids coats started dulling, and because of the less calorie-dense aspect, I had to use more food. As I got it at $40/bag it wasn't a big deal, but at regular price it just won't cut it. I'm going back to Orijen and will rotate within that brand.

After finding out that Timberwolf changed their ingredients FOR THE WORST, did NOT inform the public, and apparently had the WRONG ingredients listed the entire time they have been in business makes me furious.  I fed this food a long while ago and my dog did horribly on it.  I am very glad to know I didn't feed it since then, and now won't even recommend it to friends.

We have been feeding this to our 22 month old pug-Madison and have ALWAYS loved it. When the prices went up, we were willing to pay for it because it was GREAT food. Then about 2 months ago she began getting sick and we noticed a color change in the food. We exchanged the bag, only to see that the new bag was also light in color and also made her sick. My thoughts about how GREAT this food and this company is have gone WAY DOWN!

This food has really good quality control.  They run out of some products occasionally because they have good quality control.  It's a good company with EXCELLENT ingredients.  They are very honest.  They recently had a price increase because they left the Diamond plant that had poor quality control and Diamond wouldn't give them their bags.  So in addition to the price of moving their plant, they also had to purchase all new bags and be out on the cost of the ones they already bought.  I don't care how much they cost... this is the only kibble food I will feed my pets.

Does anyone know a good online distributor that delivers to Canada (maybe is in Canada?). My pet store sells the 33lb southwest chicken for over $80!  I want to put my dog back on this one.  This would be a 5 rating if it was not priced so ridiculously!  My dobe loved it and i noticed a huge improvement in his digestive system.  Seems like he was absorbing what he needed as well.

After moving to portland OR I was working in a high quality pet spa with a huge selection of premium dog foods. I tried my dogs on a number of different foods, but was highly impressed with the results from Timberwolf. Many of our customers whose dogs had skin conditions had had amazing results with it as well. After my dogs responded so well to it I put my cat on the cat formula but she didn't like it so she ended up on Solid Gold instead. I was really disappointed when I moved back to CA and couldn't find a pet supply nearby that sold Timberwolf. If one opens or when I move back to OR I'll be putting my dogs back on it again.

My 12 3/4 year old female samoyed is currently on Ocean Blue.  I am impressed with  what is NOT in the ingredients.  My dog is allergic to chicken.   Her energy level, coat quality, appetite, and weight are all excellent.  Her stools are small and well formed.  I do transition slowly and add a probiotic.  She has also tried the Black Forest Venison & Lamb with great results.  I would not hesitate to recommend this food to an older dog, with coat & skin issues, as well as a high energy adult dog.  I also rotate between different protein sources as well as different companies.

My dogs all did well on the Timberwolf Ocean Blue formula.  Coats were looking great.  Very little to clean up from them.  An all around excellent food.  The only reason I no longer feed my dogs this is with the price increases and having to pay over $80.00/bag it was not that economical to feed this any more.  But if I could I would still be feeding them this brand.

It stopped my dog from puking. I was using Canidae and California Naturals Chicken and Rice. The only differences between these and Timberwolf (what is lacking in Timberwolf) is rice and rosemary extract. I don't think it is the rice with my dog but the rosemary that was aggitating things and making her puke. So hard to find the cause if the cause is food. This is as close as I can get so far. Hope this helps others :)

I have a 5 month St. Bernard puppy and a 10 year old Lab/Shep/Rot mix. My older dog has always been a picky eater and I have tried lots of different foods. He has had terrible problems with his knees over the years - had surgery at 5 years old - and we have been giving him glucosomine/chondroiton daily. His skin and fur wasn't looking so great either - just old and dull. The puppy had a spot of mange and was suffering from flea allergies.

When we got the pup we decided to start her off on a raw diet which we figured would be good for him, too. Well, he doesn't like chicken, she does but what a mess even feeding them outside and with 2 little kids in the house I just figured we couldn't take the raw meat health risk. so we began looking for superior dry foods.

We liked what we read about Timberwolf and thought the flavors might appeal to our big guy. They don't have a puppy formula so we bought Innova Giant Breed for the pup. Well, she would eat it but not enthusiastically. She kept sneaking over to the other bowl and eating the Timberwolf. I was concerned because the protein was 26% rather than the 23-24% range that I had read was best.

When it came time to buy new food I read all the different Timberwolf labels and decided to go with the Black Forest - 22% protein.

I am also supplementing both dogs with a yeast free powder that's full of herbs and stuff, mixed into yogurt so some of their improvement may be due to that, but Chewie's (my old boy) off his pills and is apparently pain-free from the way he is running and jumping. His coat positively gleams and he eats well. Dixie, the Saint pup, is scratching less, the mange spot has almost disappeared and her coat is glorious! I was brushing her the other day and I couldn't believe the texture and shine. It has really changed over the past week or 2.

I can't completely attribute these changes to Timberwolf but I know this food has helped, especially Chewie's knees.

I free feed (per my vet's advice) so my dogs just kind of stop whenever they feel hungry and take a few bites of their food. Chewie, who was overweight is now sleek and trim and Dixie has a nice defined waist - no fat there!

Anyway, I would definitely recommend this food, pricey as it is. When Dixie gets older I will probably start rotating in other flavors with higher protein levels but for now both of my dogs are doing really well and I couldn't be happier.

Think of the TimberWolf Organics dog food as carnivore specific ultra concentrated performance formulas but with herbs, seaweeds, seeds, multiple grains and gourmet unrefined oils and packaged in barrier bags. Nothing short of perfection for your dog, and they will thank you for it.

This food is wonderful. My 10 year old German Shephard was in pretty bad shape. He has hip displaysia, and several other old age issues. He used to be on Iams which I told my parents to get him off of because it's crap food, and when he finally came to live with me I switched him over to Timberwolf Black Forest. Per serving on how much he eats, this offers him alot of Glucosamine Condroiten which is great of old bones like his. He has never been happier. He used to yelp if you touched his hips and he is in great shape. Runs and plays with the 1 year old rat terrier and the house and could not be in better shape for his age. I used to work in a pet store that sold Timberwolf and I swear by it. It may not be organic food, but you compare to Iams or Eukanuba. Can you pronouce half the crap in the diet? Most of the ingrediants in Timberwolf is all natural food. No funky lab created junk to make it taste better. And my dog is very picky. He won't eat people food anymore, and LOVES his timberwolf.

2 stars for misleading the public with a name that would suggest this is an orgnaic dog food. It is not. Apparently, if you would like to see the owner of Timberwolf stick himself to the ceiling, bring this up with him. I don't know too much about the food - but I do know that it is very misleading and close to being completely unethical to have the word "organic" in your name, when you are not manufacturing an organic product.

hello,

am an just enlightened pet owner. been feeding all my pets royal canine and am now in the process of changing them to the better food.

I am down to Orijen, Almo Holistic and Timberwolf. I noticed that i need 630g for a 80lbs/36kg dog per dag. I need only about 375g with Orijen. Quite a large difference.

Can someone explain to me why this big difference? I thought good food means the dry food is so compact that I wouldn't need so much?

Ive rated Nutro Max as a great food in the past & still think it is a good product.
But, after the dog food scare in early 2007, I started looking for what I thought was the best commercial dog food I could find that I could afford & get easily.
About the same time one of my dogs, after having a steroid shot for flee allergies, had an ALP liver count over 2400. The norm is 25 to 150. His liver was so swollen it protruded from his rib cage.
My "new" Vet recommended Timberwolf Ocean Blue as an alternative to Science Diet LD as the 'Sci Die' was trash & regardless of the hype was not the best I could do for my dog.
I compared the ingredients & was floored.
I love the Timberwolf! My dog loves the Timberwolf! This is literally the only dry dog food ( Nutro included ) that Ive never had to coax my dog to eat & hes 8 years old & weve tried so many I cant remember them all.
Also, his allergies are gone. His usually dry, flakey skin that he just scratches & bites until he draws blood is far better than it has ever been.
I dont claim this is the best food on the planet & it certainly isnt cheap cost wise, but it is the best food for me & my dog that Ive found to date & Im going to stick with it.
Ive even changed my cat food to the Timberwolf Serenghetti & he loves it too.

I have been feeding my dogs poop for 2 years now. And after switching over to Timberwolf Organics, I've noticed that they seem to like their food now. They run around and jump for their food. And the vet said that they had worms from eating the poop food I had been feeding them. I didn't know earthworms were in food. Well gee wiz we learn something every day don't we? I guess next time I'll have to dig through the poop and take the worms out before I feed it to them. The only plus about Timberwolf Organics is that they don't run from their food anymore thankfully. Before I had to shove their big noses into it. All in all, if you want your pet to be healthy, take the worms out of the poop first, or, I guess you can feed Timberwolf Organics if you really want to.

I found/rescued a boxer a year ago in the desert. When bringing him home to SF, I hoped the blisters from the heat would go away, but instead he ended up getting a horrible rash that wouldn't go away. I took him to the vet and nothing worked. His rash just kept getting worse. I did some research on boxerworld.com and they rated timberwolf organic dog food as the top choice for boxers. I have been feeding my dog timberwolf bison for about 8 months. His skin has completely cleared up, he has gained 10 lbs in muscle mass, his stool is solid, doesn't have to go as often and when people see him who saw him when I first found him, they can't believe how good he looks. I've gotten all my friends to feed this to their dogs and they are all happy, especially friends who own boxers.

My lab/poodle cross has always had skin irritations that we suspected were allergy related. At one year old, he had twice had skin irritations that became staph infections that needed to be treated by antibiotics. He also had intermitent eye goop and ear infections.

I had tried aproximately 8 varieties of high end dried foods, all with the skin problems. The Timber Wolf Ocean has put an end to all his previous symptoms. His skin is now clear and his coat is shinier than it has ever been. I'm so happy that I have found the right food for my sweet dog.

I have worked in the pet industry for a number of years and have seen pet foods come and go. I have seen many good foods diminish the quality of their ingredients, and eventually go onto a list of foods that I won't recommend. But at this current time, Timberwolf Organics has one of the best ingredient lists out there and does well for so many dogs. I currently use all of the formulas with my two lab mixes, and they have loved all of them. I have seen the wonderful affects it has on so many dogs, and their before and after photos are amazing. Good nutrition, no matter what the brand, can make an amazing impact on the dogs who are lucky enough to be fed it. And although there may not be a complete list of "organic" ingredients in the food (especially since the price would be way too high for anyone to afford if it was), that is not a good reason to dispromote the food. The cost can be a little intimidating at times, but when compared to some of the lower quality brands such as Iams or Science Diet, the price per a bag isn't that much higher and the feeding ratio is much lower by comparison. All in all, Timberwolf Organics is one of the best foods on the market.....right now. In five years, I may be recommending another food, but for right now, this is the one food that I truly do promote the most.

We've been feeding our dogs this food for over 4 years now. We have working German Shepherd Dogs and they have all thrived on this food. Sleak, glossy coats, bright eyes and high engery. Before trying this food, our dogs had itchy dry coats, but now they look, and I know they feel better. We've used Ocean Blue, the Elk, the Bison foods and now we even feed our cat the Serengeti Felid Diet and she loves it. -Seattle, WA

We adopted a "shelter dog" two months ago - she was in sad shape. The shelter warned us she would only eat dry if canned was mixed in it, but for the first few days she wouldn't eat anything we offered. The trainer gave us some samples of Timberwolf and she literally went nuts over it. Because her coat was so poor we have for the time being kept her on their Elk and Salmon and she has responded beautifully. You wouldn't recognize her now! Shiny coat, eyes and while she hasn't gained any weight she looks solidly healthy now and well-fed. She has been itching but the pet store owner (who provides all natural and organic feeds) thinks it is potentally the grains and has recommended Ocean Blue. The vet thought it might be the elk (being a rare protein) and wants us to stay on it to ensure she adjusts (she's still around / under a year old). Who knows. But next time we will switch to see how it goes.

One other thing is you have to use less of it than normal food since it has reputedly less fillers - she's 32 lbs and we feed her a cup spread out through out the day (she loves it as training treats - goes a long way to making up for the cost!). But that is actually good because we've been filling it out with peas, carrots, broccoli, fresh fruit (no grapes or raisins!) and other healthy treats. She is maintaining her weight despite being spayed and only getting walks for exercise. We think she is a border collie mix.

We've recommended it two other people now since the recalls - I've talked to one of them and their dog, an older German Shepherd who is a bit finicky, also apparently just loves it. She's on the Ocean Blue and her mom is hoping it will help with the hives and hair loss she's been experiencing.

I don't know about posts about dogs getting sick - but there are some unusual ingredients in these foods - more and more animals like people are getting allergies and I think I'd be cautious and maybe start with the Ocean Blue. I wish I knew the name of it - but there's also an enzyme the pet food lady gave me we used a few times and it really seemed to help get rid of the "yellow bile" she sometimes threw up. She said it was good for getting the stomach back in balance in times of stress / dog food changes.

I don't know - but so many treats smell like formaldehyde - the fact that this food actually smells good to my nose (my boyfriend jokes and says it looks healthier than what we eat - maybe we need to put milk on it and have it as breakfast cereal)makes me feel that this is a better dog food than the usual stuff out there. Getting it from store it is equivilent in price to the super high premium stuff.

Good luck - I recommend trying to get samples of it - maybe a holistic trainer or vet in your area...

There is nothing ORGANIC in Timber Wolf "Organics" -- a good food, but a a rather disingenuous company, which just turns me off, as there are other foods out there that are just as good.

I have been hearing so much negativity about Timberwolf being bought out by Diamond Dog. I went to Timberwolf's website and copied this directly from their FAQ: Is Timberwolf Organics, Inc. owned by Diamond Pet Foods, Inc.? No. We are a private, independently owned company. At one time, Diamond Pet Foods manufactured our food; however, we have moved production to another facility owned by another company (we cannot give this information out, as it is proprietary). They specialize in manufacturing specialty formulas of pet foods and meet our high standards for exceptional quality production. We are certain that Diamond Pet Foods, Inc. is a fine company, but to answer the above question, we have no business affiliation with them. I hope this clears the air to this untruth!
