I am currently a Cracker Barrel employee. As far as how my experience as an employee goes I can honestly say that they are the GREDIEST company I have ever worked for INCLUDING Wal-Mart. Management treats you like thieves. You have to carry a clear purse so that they can be sure you havent stolen anything, be walked out after your shift by management (they will pat your coat down for stolen goods in the winter,) and the constant worry about overportioning is INSANE! As far as how they make us (witresses) handle our guest timing, I think it's outrageous. For exaple they tell us you have 1 minute to greet the table, that's ok. However, at when you greet they want you to OVEREXPLAIN the features, soups deserts and anything else they can make us say. They also want you to get the entire order from your guest right then. Personally as a guest I want to LOOK at a menu, but I guess that I'm just weird that way. When the food is delivered to a table they want you to leave the bill then. I think it's totally TACKY! If you don't leave it then, you have 1 minute to check back and leave the bill, still tacky, who's tried all thier food ni 1 minute, you've barely had time to say grace! Remember when you used to go to the Barrel and get bread right off, no more. YOu have to ASK for it, that's not firendly to me. You have to ask for jelly for your biscuits if you don't order breakfast and then you only get 1 jelly for 2 biscuits, even then you only get grape, unless you ASk for something different. But what REALLy gets my goat is that they are adamant about the servers pushing the highest price drinks (Stewart's Rootbeer and Bottled water) and trying to push desserts on every table. I NEVER order dessert, the prices are usually way too ridiculous. I always try to "creatively ring" my orders to save my guest some money, and when the managers catch you doing it, they FREAK! It's not like I'm stealing anything, but if you can get two sid orders rung up as a kid's vegetable plate, you get a free drink, that cuts a bill by a dollar and some change. Hey, I don't like to spend any more than I have to, I don't think most people will willingly pay more for what they don't have to. As many times as I've been a guest there, I can't complain about food or service. Though I do get annoyed when I think about what is going on behind the "country fresh" curtain.

If I wanted to take a group of people out to dinner, I would definitely choose a nicer place than Cracker Barrel, but if I just wanted a cheap dinner with quality food for one or two people, then Cracker Barrel would be an option. The service is quick and simple and the food is consistently good.

This place is like coming home to an old hillbilly like me. Home cooked food and a family reunion type atmosphere. The service is more than adequate. The menu is extensive and the possibilities endless. I have never tried anything at one of these places that I did not enjoy. The old Country Store is a great place to wax nostalgic for older folks while the younger crowd will be amazed to see such simplistic novelties. Take the family and enjoy.

Neutral. I have had great service and so-so service. Had the ham one time and it was fantastic. Had the ham another time and it was dry. Kind of hit-or-miss. For really good 'home' cooking, try one of the Machine Shed's (found in the midwest). Really fabulous food at good prices, thought Mom was in the kitchen when I had the pork chops! They even serve cottage cheese and apple sauce with every dinner!

My husband and I along with some friends ate at the Cracker Barrel in Clarksville, Tennessee Saturday Night. Our waitress brought us a plate of biscuits. We found a long hair in one of our biscuits. We told our waitress and she in turn told the manager. From where we were seated, we could see the manager when she told him. He never came out to inquire about what happened or just to say he was sorry. We are not asking for anything free, but a simple appology would have been acceptable. I work for the Sheriff's Dept. in our county and our Chief Deputy and his family were also eating there the same night. He like myself had eaten there numerous times. He could not even eat his steak and biscuit because the steak was ruined. He had eaten steak there before and he stated it had never tasted like that before. He also informed the manager but the manager told him that was the way it was suppose to taste. My family has always considered Cracker Barrel their favorite restuarant but after this last incident, I think we have changed our minds. I am writing this letter because I think you need to know before this particular manager loses a lot of your customers. Thanks,

I am a current Employee and I think that cracker barrel sucks. They treat you like a theif if your till is off, and of all things they make you carry a clear purse to work. If you take a lunch box they check it before you leave, and worst of all you have to have a manager walk you out of the building. How paranoid can they be. I have worked at several restarunts and I have never been treated this badly as an employee. And to think I used to think this place was cool untill I worked here.

Despite minor quibbles over the years, I've enjoyed most every meal there. Sometimes you just need a good down home dinner with the kinds of comfort food that is Cracker Barrel's specialty. I especially like the fresh biscuits and delicious cornbread that accompany dinner. For sit-down service, their meals are among the better values you can find.

I have to give this place a bad rating solely based upon it's contribution to the homogenization of America. I went into one once to see what it was like, and it was like a down-home Walmart. Why go to a fake country store? Why not go to a real one? Why have chain restaurant food? Why not find a real old-fashioned country restaurant or a good old diner. When I go to a different city for a vacation, I don't want to find all the same restaurants and shops I left at home. Death to the mega-chain stores and restaurants! Rise up! Go to the mom and pop shops! Don't let the man keep you down. Be the ball, Danny. Etc.

I expected so much more based on what some people had told me about this place. OMG Crackle Barrel sucks!!! After getting through that cheezy store-front and sitting down to the most annoying of waiters -- who failed to even let us sit before he asked what we wanted to drink -- and then -- proceeded to OVER describe each menu special -- WTF -- I can read you freak! Anyway -- to the meal. Chicken and dumplings? My wife had about the poorest excuse for a meal in her life -- and my f-ing pot roast dinner was more like Carrots and a little meat. What a f-ing disappoint after my redneck friends pimped this place like it was the greatest place in the world. I should have known people who consider flannel a major fashion statement would have been wrong about food too. Cracker Barrel is Americana gone bad -- Southern Cooking perverted into some alien life form -- Crapper Barrel is off my list. What a waste of a hour and $25. Thank goodness it was only that amount. This place must survive on people who have little regard for their overall health and are missing taste buds.

I only ate here once but I really enjoyed my meal and the general atmosphere. I wish we had a Cracker Barrel closer to where I live. They have great side dishes so you'll be very clueless if you're indecisive like me.... Amazing Mac & Cheese too! They also give you biscuits and corn bread... mmmm... AND there's a cute store with lots of random items. I bought a harmonica, silly putty, apple butter and a homemade chocolate lollipop there! :)

I'm not all that thrilled with Cracker Barrel. The country store is just too quaint for my tastes, and I rarely find anything worth purchasing, though I do find amusement with some selections on occasion. Of course the most important aspect of any restaurant is the food, and it just isn't worth the wait. The fare is essentially old school southern cooking, namely hams, Salisbury steaks, vegetables, etc. Without the bread, the portions would not be filling, at least not for me. The bottom line is that there are better options than Cracker Barrel.

The horror of Cracker Barrel has to be seen to be believed. Since I was eight, I imagined blowing these restaurants up with phasers (after beaming out everyone, so no one gets hurt), and I still hate the place! The food is horrific, most of it yucky veggies and stuff like that. The service is horrible and slow. The prices are outrageous and the country store selection is quite the joke. Another slow food terror.

After waiting 40 minutes and noticeing several groups of people that had arrived 10-15 minutes after we had placed our order, I asked our waitress what the deal was? Her reply was I'll see what is taking so long. After another 8 minutes, she returned and said it will be 5 minutes. Another 10 minutes go by, now we ask to see a manager. He comes out assures us our order will be right out. After 10 minutes go by, out comes our order, not the right ones, but still it's an order. The manager says he's sorry about the delay, DELAY. After we finish our meal, we our given the bill for our meals we did not recieve with nothing more than a smile and a thanks come again. I'm quite sure I will never want to go back and wait that long for a breakfast again

Good menu selection, good food and a variety of it. If you like good country cooking this is the place to go. Also has a store up front which is neat. Usually is always crowded on the weekends, breakfast, lunch and dinner hours. Buses love to come to Cracker Barrel so choose your time to eat wisely.
