Even his signature tune, "Whammer Jammer," was an exercise in compactness, teasing the listener with its open train piece and then taking the audience on a ride through a landscape filled with classic r 'n' b harp riffs. For my money, he may have been the best rock 'n' roll harmonica-player, even better than the great John Popper, if only because Magic Dick played like Keith Richards, inventing classic riffs rather than simply showing off his dexterity on the harp.
