Eh, too small for my tastes, but I love the mountains. Lots of places to camp and hike. I don't mind visiting for a weekend to camp outside the city, but I don't think I can live there. I don't like football or regressive thinking.

Visited on the way to California.  I guess I'm not much into small cities in the middle of nowhere.  Cool mountains but way too small towny for me.  I need culture, diversity, great shopping, people walking around town and this town just didn't have any of this.  Rather drab.

Smokies are beautiful. The people are generally friendly and smile very frequently.

If you are looking for big city life, Knoxville is boring like the others said. Not much in the way of Culture, however it isnt bad for someone who likes small town life. And if you like football you had better like orange! (which I dont, though I do respect the program). Knoxville like the other cities in Tennessee however is a driving nightmare!

Went here this summer to see a friend and didn't like it. Like many cities in TN, Knoxville lacks culture, is not diverse and is boring overall. The locals seemed to be nice enough altho some were really rude and very much on the hick, hillbilly side. No one seems to know how to drive here either, they go too slow or they drive crazy like they are in a Nascar race or something. Something about college sports makes these people go crazy esp for football, i guess in this city there is nothing better to do and my friend agreed. Far too many awful fast food places all over the city too. I guess the mountains are nice, if you can see them thru all the smog in the summer, do these people know what air pollution control is?!? Just another bland southern city with boring people, my friend can't wait to move out of here next year and i don't blame him. Oh everyone here seems to be married with kids by 16, i saw many women who barely looked like they were out of high school pushing 2 kids around in a carrage in the local stores, no wonder TN has such a high divorce rate.

I lived here for a year and moved away. Boring city overall, the smoky mountains are nice and the zoo is ok but not much else. People here are sorta friendly but up to a point, it seems once they find out your not from the south they cop an attitude, must still be mad about the Civil war or something. Not the smartest people i've ever met either, kinda backwards and on the hick side, if you are progressive in your views, you will not fit in here, i lived here a year and couldn't make any new friends and i've lived in other places and had no problem meeting new people but Knoxville is kinda stuck in the old ways of the south. Smokers everywhere here and the divorce rate is HIGH, TN overall has a real bad divorce rate, one of the highest in the U.S. and the reason is the folks here seem to marry right out of high school and get divorced a few years later and are stuck with kids. If you are single and over 35, forget it, nightlife sucks and with so many divorced people with kids, no one goes out much which is another reason it's hard to meet ppl here, you are either divorced with kids or married, being single here sucks! Too many fast food chain places all over this city makes it hard to find a good place to eat too. overall, if you want to live in a boring city with tons of divorced women looking for a "sugar daddy" to support them and deal with extremely hot summer weather and deal with bad traffic, Knoxville is for you, all others, avoid.
