To the average person the ingredients might look fine The key is "you pay for what you get" and Im sorry but for $27 for a 40lb bag come on..do you really think that's good meat?? It is FULL of fillers I work as a nutritional specialist for animals, and for hours I have been reading over and over how ppl are thinking this is great food and im sitting here shaking my head. It is sold at Costco and not a health food store for animals for a reason!!! (it took people years to finally realize that Iams is crap)

Poor and dangerous food. It's not enough anymore to simply question WHAT the ingredients are. They APPEAR to be beneficial. We must now also question WHERE they have come from. The dog & cat food contains numerous ingredients from deleterious sources. Additionally, I have banned anything edible from China in my home.

This dog food is the equivalent of Diamond Natural http://www.diamondpet.com/products/diamond_naturals /dogs/dry_food/chicken_and_rice_adult_dog_formula/ Great ingredients and an even better price at $16.99 per 40lb bag.

Anyone who thinks that Kirkalnd brand is crap, they need to do some serious research. Have been using this food for my dogs since they made it available at Costco and both of my dogs are in A1 condition. My German Shephard lived to be almost 14, he was over 100 pounds of solid dog and his only medical problem was just before he died, his hind legs became arthritic. Otherwise, he had a great coat, no weight or medical problems. My dog now loves the stuff and she also has a wonderful coat that many people have stopped me on the street to comment on. Any food that has Chicken, Lamb or any other meat as the first product is worth using (you look for the first ingredient in your own products to be the best) and this makes the product have a lot less fillers which is good for the dog and they don't need to eat as much. As for recalls on this product, show me any brand that has never has a recall...

My husband and I have 2 bull mastiffs and a corgi. We switched our dogs to Kirkland's premium chicken and rice about a year ago and have really noticed a change in all 3 of our dogs. They absolutely love it and my male bully, who is 9 years old, runs around like a puppy again. We switched to this because it didn't have corn in it but also that it was full of veggies. The only Human food I give my dogs is vegtables so I think that might be why they like it so much. I can't complain about it because I have seen such a positive change in my poochies!!!

I have two dogs and they both love the Kirkland Bands. My one dog is 13 years old and my other dog is almost 3 years, I have been feeding them Kirkland brand for the last 4 years and they are both very healthy and active. After tearing the ingredients lable off the bag and comparing to all the expensive brands I found this to be the best in all the dog foods and not to mention the value. The most important thing over all is my dogs health and that they are satisfied.

I have three dogs (two mastiffs and a German Shepherd mix with epilepsy). When I adopted one of the mastiff's several months ago, her foster mom gave me a printout from an article that was in several dog magazines regarding rating your dog's food (see link below). Kirkand rates an A+ ! My dogs love it too! Their coats have never been more healthy. Their skin is soft and not dry and flaky. My GS mix has very special needs, including strict dietary requirements. After reading the ingredients and rating them according to the article, I realized that Kirkland is one of the top dog foods... for less than half the price! I'm extremely impressed with the product and will definitely continue using it.

I joined Costco 6 months ago, to start getting the food for my Kennel of 35 dogs, I used to feed your top name food $$$$$$ , my feed bill is now less than 1/2 the cost, and my dogs are doing wonderful, I know it's only been 6 months, but, I had 4 dogs, that just couldn't keep the weight on, and just in this short of time they look fantastic, as they all do, I also like the fact of a lot less stool , and trust me , with 35 dogs, you are doing a lot of poop scooping, the ingredients are great,My girlfriend that has top show dogs, told me about this food, she has fed this to her dogs for a very long time, their coats glisten, and all her dogs are very healthy, and so are the off-spring, I am totally sold on the food...and so are my dogs.

This food has had many recalls, over the last 7 yrs why on earth would anyone feed their pet this stuff anymore. It almost killed my dog during the 2003 recall for mold issues. That is when I found out it was not the first recall they had and now they are part of the wheat gulen/Menu foods recall. NO WAY WOULD I FEED THIS TO ANY PET!

The ingredients are excellent, but my cats do not like the taste. I mix with other high quality foods, and they eat some of the Kirkland, but the bottom of the blow is always completely Kirkland. They only eat it if they have to, and you can't keep good weight on cats that way.

I have been feeding this food for some time and my dog's [ and new puppy] like it. I do not have a problem with weight gain. Even my old dog. {14yr) I use to feed Diamond ( who makes Kirkland ) and have feed Diamond food for the past 10 years and is all that they ever ate. I switched to Kirkland for the quality of food for the price. happydogs~~~

For the price this is a decent food.
While not a "super premium" some fillers (beet pulp, and egg product) most of the ingredients are good.
If there were a higher meat content it would get a 4 star rating.
Low meat content determined by fact that there are only 350 calories per cup. Higer qualtiy foods have between 450 and 600 calories per cup.
Feeding this food to your dog is a lot better than Iams, purina, nutro, and sceince diet.

i like it. what do you think of Trader Joe's products? Did you know that it's the exact same ingredients as Costco's Kirkland? what does that mean? i think it's great quality and affordable too.

Our 2 young mini poodles and our old English Bulldog all eat this and do beautifully! We have no health problems, no weight issues, and no gas issues with this food. My female poodle produced and nursed 4 pups her first litter on a combo of this and Kirkland canned food, without getting run down, underweight, or losing her hair. I highly recommend this food- and so does my vet (although he sells Science Diet!)

We are currently in the process of switching our new puppy (Irish Setter/Golden Retriever mix) to Kirkland super Premium Puppy dry dog food. We started her out on Science Diet puppy food, yet after reading several articles, determined that the Science Diet had multiple questionable ingredients. The most concerning was that a couple of its main ingredients were corn and "chicken by-product" meal. We decided to try out the Kirkland brand, before I had become more knowledgeable about pet food ingredients. After investigating the ingredients on the Kirkland puppy food, it appears that this food is a tremendous value. I realize that it may not be the best option, yet I would challenge anyone to find a better food for this price. We have started the mix with the Science Diet, and so far our puppy seems to be eating it without any issues.

we joined costco lately and tried this food and were impressed by the good ingredients. best of all my dogs love this food. I was feeding a higher priced version of this (made by same manufacturer) but may stay with this because of the price. I am feeding 3 good sized dogs and this price can't be beat

It's the best food for the price. My beagle eats everything but doesn't seem interested in the food. I read the ingredients and it all seemed pretty good. The only down fall is the bad breath. My dogs eat Canidae now. Maybe the Kirkland Lamb and Rice would be better. But seriously, anyone on a budget, don't buy pedigree, purina, alpo, kibbles n bits, eukanuba, or iams. The best buy is really this food.

Has everything you need and more in a dog food.
ThanksAMillion 03/25/2006
This is a really great food. I don't understand the comment about the corn from another user. The bags of Kirkland Chicken and Rice do not have any corn in them. I took the label from one of the bags with me to a local pet store and compared it to what they carried. The only foods I liked better were Solid Gold and Canidae. They were also 2 1/2 times the price and I'd still have to feed 2 cups a day to my dogs.

This food is excellent quality for the price. If you want to stay within a "commercial" diet without going up to an expensive/holistic route for multiple dogs, it is the best bet. Only complaint - it will bulk weight on dogs due to the corn fillers, so feed a little bit less.
blackvelvet2 11/21/2005
This food is great it's the best one for all of my dogs and we have tried many other foods. They also like the lamb formula and it stays in the bowl better.
