Gotta have a roof over your head, so being able to build it is a good skill to possess. Otherwise, I hope you know someone that does.

For me... absoluetely, otherwise I would be unemployed, and would live in a house that I didn't build. (for those not in the field, that is the last thing you want to do, be a contractor and live in a house you did not build)

Nice, but large project oriented and time consuming. Plus it's fairly easy to get someone to construct for you and then you concentrate on the design and claim all the credit.
