I never was real big on this place. I mean that battered fish ain't too bad unless you eat a lot of it.....then it's just too greasy and sickening. The LJS in my town went out of business a few years ago....I guess because people around here like real seafood. Anyway I'd rather go eat a pile of boiled shrimp and crawfish than anything from this place any day.

Very greasy, but those chicken planks are yummy.

The food did taste good. However, it's greasy...VVVVVEEEEERRRRRYYYYY GREASY! I have not eaten there for some time now. However, I highly doubt if the menu has changed or their health standards.

i remember in the 1970's long john's batter on their fish was so good. not today, it has no flavor at all. tastes like wall paper glue. does anyone know the answer to that? the fish was also a lot thicker. there has to be an answer.

It is really greasy! But i absolutly love LJS. Their chicken is great, and the chicken flatbread sandwich too. I can't stand eat LJS more than twice a week and feel healthy, but when I have a chance to eat it, it is really good.

Long John Silver's? Number 34 in a list of forty-one?!! Gimme a break!!
ridermage 01/17/2003
The food is not good and very overpriced. Is there even a way to tell the difference between chicken and fish? Is it possible for them to use more batter or fry these things more? And what is the deal with those horrid hush puppies?

more great fast food seafood!

Smallest, greasiest fish portions (not fillets) that I have ever seen in a restaurant!

LJS is simply the best, I don't care for fish, but the chicken planks are great. I'd pick this place over Mickey D's or BK any day. The bell at the exit always rings in my hometown and I make sure to ring it three times for the great chicken of Mr. John Silver.

THE FISH JUST SEEMS GREASY AND THE FRIES ARE REALLY BAD CAN'T THEY MAKE THEN FATTER WITH MORE REAL POTATO TASTE AND FEEL THE FRIES THEY SERVE NOW ARE SMALL,DRY AND BRITTLE WON'T YOU PUT A FISH AND CHIP DISH ON THE MENUE DEAR JOHN?

The food's alright here. Some people consider it a poor man's Red Lobster, but it's okay. Still, with the other great many restaurants out there, this would be far down on my list.
Damifino 07/06/2002
It sure is greasy, but it actually doesn't taste that bad for an occasional "oil-changing." Certainly not the kind of place where I'd eat on a daily basis. I do wish they'd make an effort to put more healthy items on the menu.

Yuck, too salty and greasy!

Super greasy and fattening....

I've always liked LJS, but last time I went there I ordered the breaded shrimp and it was nasty! I couldn't even taste the actual shrimp- all I tasted was gross, oil-soaked breading! Bleah! I think I'll stick with the chicken planks, which I usually get. I also like their fries- they're nice and crispy, plus the hush puppies are good, and their slaw is decent. The prices are fairly reasonable, and sometimes they have really good coupon deals.

Oh, gag me! Will NEVER eat here again...oh wow this place is so bad I can't even put into words...NASTY NASTY NASTY! Don't go here, go to a real seafood place. Try Red Lobster. Try L&N Seafood. Try ANYTHING but DO NOT EAT HERE!!!

Grease! I just love the fried clams though. The chicken is really greasy.

I was pretty dulled out on this food until my mother came back from Florida one year and told me how good their fish sandwiches are. I figured they must be fairly good considering she had lots of chances to compare seafood during her 4 month stay in sunny Florida. So, I tried one and she was right, they do make a pretty decent sandwich. That kind of reawakened my interest in them, but it's still not a place I visit very often. Oh and BTW: they do seem to use the same breading for just about everything they make but the hush puppies are made out of corn meal Dorkavitch...or at least, I hope they are!

I love the chicken planks. The service is always horrible though. They have this bell near every exit in every store. It says to ring the bell if you got great service. I have never heard anyone ring that bell.

Long John Silvers makes the best seafood in the world, but sadly they closed down in my area, so we have to go to Red Lobster now. Long Live Long John Silvers!

I'm not really sure what to rate this place because to be honest I don't think I've seen one in at LEAST 15 years. Are they still around? However, I did eat at a couple when I was a child and they still had some presence at it was not really very good. Fish just doesn't seem to keep, even in decent conditions, as well as things like beef or chicken and I'm pretty sure that fast food restaurants aren't really know for their "good conditions". Besides, from the fact that I haven't seen one in 15 years I feel it's safe to assume it wasn't that good to begin with.

Worst seafood place ever!!!!
Fena1640om 11/26/1999
If you want a plateful of greaseballs masquerading as seafood, then this is your place! It really, REALLY sucks!
