Don't know anything about his politics, but he does have a certain gravitas.

In his favor, he is a very motivated, accomplished guy. The strikes against him (in my book) are that he has poormouthed the U.S. while promoting a film overseas and that he announced on national television (interview with Barbara Walters) that he believes that AIDS was secretly created to reduce the world's population of black people.
