02/19/2007 | One of the great Speakers of the House in US history-an office whose power is often under appreciated, due to the Cult of the Presidency. Tip worked closely with presidents from Eisenhower to Reagan (who he respected more than Carter, interestingly). There is a fascinating 'shrine' to Tip O'Neill at the Boston College Library, worth a visit if you're in the Boston area.
A Boston (North Cambridge) politician, who never forgot where he came from; O'Neill was distinguished by his honesty, diligence and intelligence.
